Shouldn't it be Gordon's theorem is we are questioning it? People don't question the theory of relativity or the theory of evolution (ok- I meant educated people)- and we still refer to these as theories.
This isn't redundancy. The GPUS are NOT performing the same task and being checked. They are performing different independant tasks to get the throughput higher. If one goes down- they both go down- (or at least performance is hampered).
I am a skeptic to- but it has nothing to do with my analytical side- it is simply fear from watching the movie Jaws too many times.
Although this morning I rode in sitting on a 20 gallon tank of gas- how many meters could that raise a fire truck in the air? If you want to store portable energy- there is going to be some inherient form of danger involved. Batteries are acidic- gas is flamable- etc. What is interesting is the hydrogren appears to be the safest despite the PR problem. If there is a tank rupture- the hydrogen rises (lighter than air)- and will it it does ignite- will do so above your head. If not- it will turn to water and rain on you. If a gasoline tank ruptures and ignites- it is below your car. It also stays there until someone strikes a match or cleans it up.
Compressed air seems like a nice compromise. Does anyone know how loud it would be? I imagine it would sound a heck of a whole lot like my air tools...
I work in Mass and live out of state. You pay where you earn. I pay Mass tax on the money I make in Mass- and then a percentage of the money I make in NH to NH.
My brother in law does the opposite of you- lives in MA- works in RI. He has to pay the RI tax of 4% (or whatever it is)- and then make up the 1.5% (or whatever the actual number is)- to Massachusetts. What you don't do is pay double.
If you are paying twice- I suggest you get yourself and accountant and file years of ammendable returns.
That machine was like $4K in 1992 dollars wasn't it? That could make you the owner of the world's most expensive webcam.
My Centris 660AV is still in my parents house. I should check on it tommorrow on Easter. I had an external 1 Gig SCSI drive. Today- I carry a 1 Gig USB key fob. Makes me wonder if in ten to fifteen years if we will all be carrying around terabyte usb sticks.
You had both? Nice.
I had a 660AV. It packed a whopping 25Mhz processor (840AV was 33Mhz I believe). At the time- it was the coolest thing ever- with reasonable VR capabilities- built in modem- and a Video input. In college- it was great cause it was nearly the only computer that had the video in. I had my Ninento (not even Nintendo 64) and a VCR (no DVD) so I could use it as a TV as well- saved alot of room.
I bought the overclocking set but never was able to get the machine to run stable with it.
Again- Apple was the first to market with an idea- but never fully capitalized on it.
These bastards are going to ruin it for the rest of us contractors....
Some of us perfer to work in these conditions- we get a little more cash in which we can create a benefits package which suits us personally.
Contractors sueing the places of employment are jeopardizing these relationships. In 2004, the state of Mass created a law defining many independant contractors are regular employees- despite what their contracts may say. This means that the contractors may be entitiled to benefits retroactively in 2004. This sort of legislation will jeopardize contractors who are happy with the arragements as they now stand.
You have to wonder about this. They show the US at 24.6% of PCs compromise- and the UK at 25.2%. This is well within the margin of error for even the most rigorous of surverying.
I imagine in the not to distant future- we could do away with monitor cables as well.......
Heck with IPV6- we could give every pixel on every monitor its own IP address- and have your monitor plug into the nework or use Wifi 6.0 to send your screen images to monitor.
I read the article by Molly Wood- and I think she may be a little off as well.
She predicts a world where all the apps are central and we simply connect to them in a server/client mode. This way- things are portable to us. Our PC at home and our PCs are world no longer become unsynched- they are one. Goto your neighbors house- and it is just like your home environment cause it is portable.
Well- right now many of us carry memory stick key fobs on our keychains. I current carry a gig USB stick. How long time someone puts a bluetooth device inside it? How long until they can add a processor die and some RAM? In ten year- you may be carrying your entire PC on your keychain. Put your keys into your monitor at work- and there is your environment- no network needed. No fees to pay to a central server. If you could carry your PC as you would a keyfob- would you care about having a centralized server?
Man- when I was a kid- it was so hard to get porn. There was one magazine that was handed down year after year. Soon- kids will be able to download and manufacture their own sex toys. Man- I grew up in the wrong era.
I don't see this as being something that is in the home as the article suggests- but I definitely see this at your local shop. Imagine- you walk into you local ace hardware store- you tell the clerk you need a 1/4" wrench, 1/4" bolts and screws- and he types them into the machine- you pay and the barista down the end of the counter brings you your merchandise 30 seconds later.
You go into Macy's and they don't have your size shirt (after all- you are a Slashdotter who doesn't have time to exercise- you fat bastard)- and they say- hold on- measure you- and they manufacture one in the basement for you while you wait.
People complain about manufacturing jobs going overseas- but they are simply going away. There is no labor cheaper than no labor. At some point- the cost of transportation comes into play.
With that said, how Moore's law became a "law" within the scientific community after a mere 40 years of quasi observation is quite humorous.
I proposed we rename it "Moore's rule of thumb".

Yankees suck.....
Woah- I guess the fact that we just got clobbered by NY is bringing back the old bad habits. So much for acting like champs.
Regardless- some businesses are stupid- and will view Windows as equal/superior to Linux. The dustbins of history will be waiting for them.

It does not have a personal income tax- but owning a business- you pay a business tax. The amount is small- but it is there.
My brother in law does the opposite of you- lives in MA- works in RI. He has to pay the RI tax of 4% (or whatever it is)- and then make up the 1.5% (or whatever the actual number is)- to Massachusetts. What you don't do is pay double.

I submitted a one page white paper on using the Sun. I can't wait to get my $50,000?
I didn't realize you Francophiles were so sensitive. Those cheese eating surrender monkey fans now post anonymously too.
Congress passed a law... it is now referred to as the Agence FREEDOM Presse... Please update the submission.

Oh- look- the Sims..............
Now that that flamebait is out there- where can I get tickets? My sleeping bag is ready to go!

At least the moderators didn't......

I read an article about women who cook and eat the placebo after they give birth. Very, very gross.

Perhaps the formula is to simplistic. It needs to take into consideration AOL users, Virus writers, spyware, and bad porn as detriments.....
Maybe
( (n + #linux users) - ( AOLusers + Kv * #viri + Ks * #spywareAps + #aviAmatuerPr0nVideos) ) ^ 2
EMC says order are up 50% suddenly.....
