I returned an LCD monitor at Best Buy once after I had cut off the UPC. I had it in my pocket at the time- but they never asked. When I got home with my replacement monitor- I was able to submit for two rebates.
Intesting info... do you have any legalise to back this up?
Reason I ask is that I found a check in my office the other day from a mortgage company. It was expired- but I figured- what the hell- and deposited it at the Credit Union. The cashier gave me my slip and I walked away- figuring I had snuck one in.
Couple days later- got something from the credit union- saying the check had been returned and they charged me $20. I haven't got around to calling them and ripping them a new one-- but now it is higher on my list. If I can get a second source on this info you share- I will have something else to rip into them about.
They way I see it- the teller put it in the system- it would be her responsibility to verify that the check is not expired- or damaged- and meets all of their requirements.
I run a program called Homeseer which allows you to control various devices in your house via X10, relay control, Zwave-- you name it.
It is Windows base- so mod me down away. If you are a Linux fan and a PERL expert- Mister House has a big following.
Homeseer has a web interface- so control of these devices via a pocket pc is possible now. There are plans for Zigbee control in the future as well.
I think HS has the correct paradigm- a central PC controlling the house. Certainly you need to keep it on- but adding a $100 card to every machine you want to control devices seems silly when anything with wifi can do the job- and will allow you to read slashdot as well.
And yes- my garage door can be opened up via my webpage. No- you can't have the link.
No- I don't believe I am the first to think of it- this is exactly why I am suprised that we haven't heard any attempts of it.
You might be able to do some damage by submitting clever patches that deliberately broke products, but you would be traced, blacklisted, and inevitably the process would continue to do its work.
Exactly. You may be able to sneak something in. In the long run however, the process does in fact work. However- once the damage is done- at an opportune time- it might cause enough bad PR to make at least the general public/business sceptical of open source. One guys reputation is tarnished- he goes back to work for evil Bill on Office 2010- and Bill fronts another star independant programmer working Linux miracles. Next opportune time- he submits a clever bug- bad PR once again. Repeat as required.
This is why, for instance, excellent observations like this one get modded up on Slashdot, while poor ones generally do not. Community-moderated systems can work very well indeed.
Very true indeed- if only I had some mod points to give you.
I am suprised that these "alleged" (as my was wise preposted pointed out) competitors have not attempted to ruin the open source movement by joining it and sabotaging it.
Not unlike an edit war on wiki. Join it- and edit it from within. If you can sneak this by the editors and get it accepted- then you can have alot of influence. You can sneak in complicated back doors- then expose them. Imagine- a big Linux hole exposed the day before LongHorn is released.
Not to say this sort of effort would succeed- but I am suprised it has not been tried.
While I enjoy the resources of Wikipedia- I often wonder how they come to terms with very controversal subjects- such as the Israeli/Palestinean conflict, the war of terror, the Halocaust--- etc.
There is really nothing to prevent me from going into those submissions and editting my view of the facts. There is nothing preventing someone from taking the other viewpoint.
I am suprised that these entries aren't changing on a minute by minute basis. Everyone wants to write history from their viewpoint.
I have a family member who was recent diagnosed with a brain tumor. Scary stuff.
I never remember him using a cell phone perse- but I DO remember him always having a cordless phone and using it frequently.
I wonder how these cordless phones (the older ones and the new ones) compare with the cell phones of today. Certainly the bases are very close- I imagine the early cordless phones used quite a bit of power.
At home- I have a large desk that has room for a mid tower underneath. I had a full tower and it didn't fit in the new desk- so I bought a new case.
The desktop space was a little bit more important- so I got a 19 inch flat panel.
At home- the mini makes little sense for me. The space is already allocated for the midtower.
I was recently looking at flat panel TVs- and soon realized that I really had no place to put it (too wide). I think with all electronics- the flat panel TV- the mac mini-- it will take furniture manufacturers some time to catch up before huge amounts of people jump on board. Has to be asthetically pleasing.
Somewhere in the history of time I acquired an AOL account. I think at some point you could create multiple users- and a buddy linked me off of his parents some 10 years ago. Anyways- someone still pays the bill for this thing- not sure who. Thanks if it is you.
Always- as spam became an item- this account got so much spam that I decided to make it my usenet account over my shell accounts. I used dejanews- now google groups to post.
Now- there spam filter is slightly bettter- but still shit. This has grown into an account I use to register for message boards- and what not. Can check all the email from the web.
Everyone needs a junk mail account- aol has always been mine.

The did not fear Walmart- or BlockBuster entering their space-- but they were seriously concerned about VOD. They saw that as a killer for them.

As cell service gets cheaper and cheaper- I wonder how long until businesses do the same?
Never underestimate the bandwidth of a UPS truck full of CDs.........
He said penetration.....
I thought Captain Morgan was from Peurto Rico.
Oh- you work for Walmart.. I have been to your store- small world.....
I think that the self confidence that comes with being "accepted" is what turns people into those that perform well under pressure.
The creme de la creme students tend to be geeky and outcasts- hence lack the self confidence to do well under pressure.
You need this $100 laptop- and this $1000 solar panel.

As long as you don't want more than one child- go for it......

Never- ever underestimate the WAF factor.
They are that much different from the average Joe.
Explaination
Actually- it many areas of the country- it is illegal to use duct tape on ducts. You have to use foil tape. See the explaination on this one.
Ok Mr. Smarty pants-- I don't have more than 2 cans of WD40- but where the hell else am I going to store all of these old computer parts either?
As in paper??? Can't you get it in PDF format?
I took all my bookshelves down and put them in my garage to store my cans of WD40- duck tape- and dry gas.

They didn't say we wanted more detailed or better specs- they just want to talk.
Alright tech support weenie....
Perhaps I should buy two printers- one from Europe- and one from the US- and use whichever printer has the cheaper ink at the time.
How is this going to work for those portable printers for laptops? If I buy one of those and goto Germany- will that ink over there not work?
I can see it- now- flash the BIOS in your printer to accept ink from worldwide.
Man- it just seems like a bad idea.
