  1. Re:No different than Dell/McAfee on AOL Tries New Tactic to Keep Customers · · Score: 3, Informative

I've found it extremely easy to uninstall McAfee, as long as you remove the Virus Scan/Firewall/Spam Control before uninstalling the Security Center. I rarely ever get problems removing it, unless it's corrupted. Now Norton on the other hand almost always requires a removal tool (RNav and SYMNRT) to get rid of it all the way. Even if you uninstall Norton Anti-Virus, Live Update, WMI Update, and a few other installed components, it'll still sometimes be there and pose problems when you try to install other virus protection software.

I can uninstall that software just fine in normal mode. I've done it about six times this week (uninstalled Dell McAfee) to reinstall McAfee by Comcast or AOL. No problem at all to me. You just have to make sure to uninstall the virus scan/firewall/spam control before uninstalling the security center.

Yeah, we had thought about building "Vista Ready" machines here in our store, but after the owner checked on how difficult it would be... we decided against it. We would basically have to mail off (and pay a fee) every specs of every system to Microsoft inorder for them to assure that the system would be able to run Windows Vista. There were no package deals either where we could build multiple systems of the exact same specs... so it was going to cost a ton just for a little sticker on the front. But anyhow, our systems are Vista Capable in our minds and word-of-mouth is easy to use. Windows Aero is a very nice interface... but it's a pain in a way that the computer is going to have to be semi-top end to run it decently.

On the contrary, Windows 98 SE was a lot better than Windows ME. Mainly in the sake of program response, programmability, and overall computer usage. Also, it was less buggy in a sense of vulnerabilities. With ME being a newer operating system, it's sad that Windows 98 SE had a few hundred less vulnerabilities than it.

Well, when an update for Adobe Reader comes out, I'm sure it'll install a plugin for Office 2007 and Internet Explorer 7, just because those are going to be widely used software in the near future. And for Microsoft to already have support for reading it without Adobe's permission is a bad idea I guess, but Adobe is only getting recognition by allowing the user to download Adobe Reader and install the plugin... the same as if Microsoft already had it prebundled. The software is free anyhow.

I would have to say that I recommend AVG Anti-Virus. I admit, at times, the free version has difficulty removing certain virus components, but at least it always detects. I've always had a problem with Avast anti-virus and it's annoying user interface. And Antivir did not look that great to me either. We use AVG Anti-Virus here in the computer repair center I work for and everyone seems to love it just fine. But if your computer has a good bit of memory and you have the money and/or you're a Comcast/AOL user, I would probably recommend installing McAfee Anti-Virus over it just because of the better detection/removal of viruses and such. Just note that both Comcast and AOL users get access to McAfee for free.

As far as the 2.6 GHz from the get go, it seems to be a pretty good deal. Even if you don't have to properly cool it down to overclock it as it said, I still would not recommend this processor to just anyone wanting a computer. Well, I doubt they can actually encrypt the system where it can only boot off of certain CDs. By trying to stop dual booting, they are, of course, blocking non-Microsoft partitions on the system (and probably some of Microsoft's) since they probably don't want someone running any other OS in the background. As far as running Knoppix, SuSE Live, and such, those should still all be possible as long as you're not actually installing and setting the operating system up. But for non-bootable distributions like Fedora Core and Slackware installs, that is what they're aiming at to stop. Good luck Microsoft. There will always be ways around everything.

I would much rather remember to use it because of how easy it was in school than college just because things were so much easier to figure out there.

It seems that the thing is that there will be a two core AMD processor working as hard as it can and displaying to the system as one single processor. Microsoft owns the rights to both MS Office and Outlook and should be able to bundle these two programs together if they choose. Look at MoZilla Mail being bundled with MoZilla web browser in the past... and Star Office. And yes, you can purchase any of the office suite seperately, including Outlook, or you could download a free version of Outlook -- Outlook Express. In this case, I believe Microsoft has a right... but Windows Media Player I still advise against.
