Well, for the sheer fact that it's quite obnoxious and difficult to remove Norton Anti-Virus at times and you need special software to do so, I say this could be a good thing. But on the bad side, I smell a lawsuit...
Well, I just have to say that it also comes down to the photographer as well. My girlfriend just got her hands on a very nice 4 MP digital camera that has taken better pictures than some 7 MP cameras I've seen. It's all about the lighting techniques sometimes.
To an extent, I would agree that GIMP is not enough to make a business convert from Windows to Linux. Windows offers both Photoshop and Paintshop Pro, two extremely great imaging programs and in my strongest opinion, GIMP cannot even compare to those two. But on the other hand, GIMP should be considered a factor in changing operating systems. But let's not forget about the thousands of other exclusive programs found only for Linux... even though more and more are moving away as we speak. For me, I am just happy enough installing the newest version of Cedega and emulating anything I need from every other platform just to keep my Penguin happy.
Hah, nice. I'm mainly just wondering if this is consensual or not. I would like to hope that it is at least, even though that still is a security concern in my opinion.
I wonder how this is going to turn out? The game has always been best on console, ever since the first release on the Sega Saturn... but for PC? In a way, I like this idea, but I really don't know. I'm just hoping they don't start putting the game on the PC with every release. That's one of the console's bragging rights -- the exclusive titles such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid (even though they released the orignal on PC after about three years), etc.
That's pretty cool. I need to buy me a nice PDA. I'd love to have Opera running on it as well. That and Firefox... but I wouldn't know which to use more. Same way for me on my Mac; I switch between Safari and Firefox.
Yeah. It seems to me like they're just asking for enemies in this case, even though it is a pretty slick move. I just wouldn't recommend doing it at home, because having a huge company against a business I work for would not be a very good idea. Whether it's them trying to tamper with our products, customers, or just harassing and saying stuff bad about us back to the media, it doesn't always work out as well.
Well, what are your hours during the week? I'm sure if you work a morning shift like I'm about to start doing, you'll get off at a certain time. Maybe 8:00 or 9:00 to 5:00. Just set up your interview after you get off from work one day. Give yourself enough time to go home and change clothes and get ready in general, etc. Just explain to the place you're trying to get a job at and I'm sure there are always ways to flex talking to them about a job around your schedule. It's always worked for me and I've been through a good bit of jobs. Good luck.
It surprises me that he would only answer seven of the questions since he loves to be public about a lot of his ideas... but it sounds all like the unpreditable John Carmack hiding his Quake 2 ideas from John Romeo before his launch of Daikatana. I look forward to any idSoftware game every day of the week. RPG, FPS, whichever -- John Carmack's games are never disappointing to me.
Yeah, I'm a pretty big Dreamcast fan also. In fact, it's actually my favorite console still with the GameCube coming in a close 2nd. The fact of the matter is that it probably was not the "best" (but what is?) gaming console of all time, but it sure as hell had some kick ass games made for it. The same cannot be said for the Xbox, IMO.
In my personal opinion, both. Hacking is both creating and destroying; so is Science... so is art. Hacking is about creativity, but also about education and the ability to teach and to learn.
My laptop, a radio scanner, a voice recorder, my cellphone, a lockpick kit, room for dumpster diving, coffee mints, Jolt energy gum and misc. hardware for my laptop, including an antenna for wardriving... that covers it I believe.
I've had a similar thing happen to me, although the company was not so big (it was just a single person). I think the idea that they wanted to link to him was pretty cool, because it also promotes his game, but he was right -- they should download it and host it on their site and give more linkback info to him so that people know they didn't create it themselves. It's always a funny sight to find simple vulnerabilities on the net.
Google is anything but evil. Even with their "go getting attitude" that they have, it's all for the good of the community. Everything they have and invent is free and open source, unlike Microsoft who charge out the ass for everything... they charge for shit products even, while Google gives you the better deal for free. I'm not going to sit here and read shit about how Google is stopping people from start ups... because that's not always their fault. Google invents... what do you want them to do? Just stop all of a sudden, because I know no one would want that. The fact of the matter is that it's hard to come up with a new idea anymore because most of it is already out in the world... and if you think Google has their hands into everything than that is just one big complement to them, because they don't. There's many other companies around that do the same kind of work, so let's not appoint all this negative attention towards Google.
Is he just trying to see how difficult it is to run Linux as compared to Windows? Or is he just trying something new? I mean, props for him for trying Linux out, but if only for a week then there is no point. He needs to learn the how the operating system works, not just how to browse a GUI version of it. What's he using anyhow? Mandriva? Hah.
Yeah, amen. Gentoo is a great OS and with the release of a live CD version of it, I can say it's only going to get more fun. I've been wanting a form like this for awhile, mainly just to boot up without having to partition my harddrive... So it's going to be great to have.
Yeah... me too. And one of those includes the fact that no matter how well you treat it and run it, it always goes down and stays down. It's obnoxious! Right now I'm stressing out, pulling my hair out and drinking some hardcore caffeine over it because I can't get the damn thing to allow outside access... a common problem that I've fixed 1,000 times in the past... it just keeps coming back over and over.
Exactly. The only thing that could be on record for changing though is their income, which has substantially increased over the years for the release of games and sale of licenses. idSoftware in my opinion will always be the top dog in the FPS market, just because no one can beat John Carmack's great engines... it just comes down to them asking for permission and borrowing ideas from them. I'm sure after Carmack's next and last game, there will be some other game out there with a greater engine, but you know... it's just going to take some time.

and hopefully that will get Macs back into school systems.
Agreed. Good thing this was the first comment too. Going C++ for Linux only isn't a good bet right now. Good luck on the project.

And they wanted to get rid of their games section...
LOL. I wonder if that guy lost his job... is mostly what I'd like to know.

Yeah, that's some fucked up shit though. They're getting ridiculous with their naming rules...

Now I won't be hungry everytime I boot into the OS! =/ Well, I doubt I'll be installing it anyway. Slackware 10 > Windows Vista =)

You know... there's still a difference between having a big brain and a big head. Hah.
