I'm going to play devils advocate and ask some questions..
In this article did he quote any sources that can be verified?
Why did he quote only 2 energy companies that said it had no impact. Are they the know-it-all's on the subject?
Why does he quote the same references his own article references ?
What was the impact? Is he saying there is absolutly no measureable impact?
He says the DOE doesn't think it will make an impact. Is he referencing this article?
http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/news_detail.cf m/news_id=10625
I'm not saying he is incorrect, I just think his article is very poorly researched....just my 2 cents
I love it when my government uses my tax dollars to subsidize airlines and then they spend.. WAY to much on an object(I would say investment, but I don't think it is). Maybe they can just lay off some more pilots and raise the rates for everyone else.
I think haveing some jackass sitting next to me talking loudly into his phone for an hour will be a huge security risk. Or rather I might become a security risk to him.
The A380 carries 853 people and it meant for transcontinental , or long flights. Maybe a 727-200, or maybe something a little bigger would be a better comparison. This is a test of 3 double deck cars. Would it reach this speed with more cars? If not, is their a point to this press realease? As far as security goes, I believe these trains will have their security heightened, once the security it tested.
Why don't they just put wings on it so it can fly..? Is it really more fuel effecient with it's 25000 HP motor than a airplane? I'm not flambaiting, but If I'm travelling that fast I would rather be in the sky where the biggest thing my vehicle hits is a bird. Imagine the death that would occur if this thing crashed, and there is probably a lot more poetential for such a thing to happen than an airplane. I don't think you will save much time in security checkins, will you? Will security be less for the people and cargo on this as compared to an airplane? How about securing miles and miles of track from sabatage?
I program in Vb.net and use multithreading for work on pictures.. jpegs and mpegs and such. I'm know I'm not a great programmer but Multithreading has allways been a pain in the keester for me. I still use vb.net 2000, but hofully they fixed the starting of stopped thread issue. or maybe reading a threads state accurately without having to pause the system for a few NS. I need to learn C I guess. maybe some classes would help.. maybe I shoudl just but the newest rendition of Visual Studio..
In that Time, that sound coming from a computer was absolutley awesome. Before that the only sound was ~kH tones out of a PC speaker. They could have used a straight cable from the mic port without using a MIC. I used a tape player and cables to store and load programs from my
TI-84a before that.
Whats better? backing things up on expensive tapes or to fairly cheap removable USB2/Firwire HD's.. The only differance I see is that it's harder to put a External HD in your pocket to take home. Isn't is easier to recover Data on a HD for a normal person then recovering data on a tape?
If you make a better Malaria resistent bug, then only be the strongest strains of Malaria will survive. Now your chances of surviving infection are lower. This is just a guess but it seems resonable.
I remeber my First Creative labs ISA card.. I put it in my Hyundai Super 286AT and thought it was the most awesome thing in the world.. my friend gave me brass monkey and 1 other song on a 3.5 inch disk. I thought the quality couldn't get any better. I now have a infinitly more powerful computer with a on-board solution and the only thing I listen to is internet radio and the occsional *ding* or other windows sound. I realized hearing a ding in 8-bit or 128-bit is about the same. I personally don't need a expensive sound solution, and wouldn't buy one.
Next Al Gore will overlay the whole thing with water from melting Ice Caps... He will show how Polar bears have migrated to Florida. And How all the humans have move north due to CO2 emmisions...
Why would and oil services company want to stay in the US, when we cannot drill anywhere else here in the US? nor can we create anymore Oil Processing facilities? Envronmentalist have pushed much more that Halliburton out of the US. There is a long list of companies leaving the US, Why is this one any different? Of course some narrow minded people will blame it on Bush, but then again, those same people blame pretty much everything on Bush. It's a systemic problem, not a clear cut, "IT's Bushes fault" problem. If your going to Damn Halliburton, then Damn, DELL, IBM, Microsoft,Intel, AMD, HP, Bank of America, AT&T, Chrysler. These companies still have headquarters here, but what is the differance in moving your employees or headquarters? Well, you still have to abid by US law even if your headquarters are overseas, second taxes - Other countries tax much differantly, sometimes:/ the taxes are even better, especially if they are given breaks for moving. Companies are solicited by tax incentives ever year to move into cities or states. I do think that the US should stop using halliburton as soon as a suitable domestic replacment can be found.
How would they stop Differing thermoclines and salinity content levels from affecting the speed of the signal sent to and from the submarine? Even a Small Delay could put it way off course... I tried to RTFA but it woudln't load..
My IBM laptop crashed last time I was in an airplane with it.. It was a battery/power level bug. Seriously, How is crashing a gaming system in an airplane differant than crashing one at home? I see nothing special... move along...
I have been recieving CIO magazine for a couple years, and I have come to think of it as a book of Humor. On occasion I find some of the articles interesting, but mostly just amusing. I don't fear my users, unless they can keep up with the learning curve, they will fall behind quickly after new products come out. Most Users don't want to know how things work, they just want it to work. On the other hand if you have a user that is trying to flex thier computer skills in your face, you can bet they are doing much more behind you. Watch those users.. this article may also be biased based on the the service/software the mention in it and those who buy ads in this magazine. After all, how can CIO say don't let users use Gmail, or IM's. I think thier sponsers would flip...
So now when my phone gets hacked, they will have my fingerprints too.. Thats Just what I need.. Oh the crimes they could stage with all the free fingerprint.
Has Slashdot really got to the point where we use that "Wonderfully reliable for accuracy" news network MTV? Give me a break. There doesn't need to be politics in video games unless it has an Adult only ESRB rating. We don't want to be indoctrinating our children with a "reason" to kill. I think killing just for killing is good enough.
I would go with KCML, it has been running since 1974 and is still what we use... (I hate it, I wish it were dead) Seriously it sucks.. I used viewpoint at one company it was a windows SQL App , pretty cool, but a behemoth...
Most Companies don't have the capabilities to allow thier employees to work from home... are all the companies going to boost thier internet connection speeds? If they tried it would probably take 60 days to do it, by which time everything should be getting back to normal. Are phone companies going to install demarc's ontime. Wouldn't they charge more for the demand on bandwidth, limiting most customers. Why does the goverment need to interfere, is this a socialist economy? This article has bases that seem to be designed by high-school students having no real world knowledge?

Like they say, prepare for the worst, hope for the best..

I think 7 did this in an episode years ago.. either way, i'm bummed, now i can't sell my blood for bandwidth.
They should stick it to 'em as hard as the riaa is sticking it to everyone else!!

It was a joke, what a dork. I bought 3 of them at big lots the other day for $6 each.. Most people pay ~$100 for them at Best Buy or otherwise.

Now I get to spend $150 on a video cablr for my PC now... :)

Until we are ready to deal with Species 8472 I don't think we should attempt this...
