And by the way, even if Iraq didn't have ties to terrorists you can bet that they now are using the situation to make the US look bad and incite more of the Muslim world against us. Our politicians aren't the only ones who know how propaganda works you know

Get off your high horse man. There are plenty of election shenanigans on behalf of both parties. Ever hear of the voter turnout in Illinois? It's suprisingly good, even the deceased seem to show up and vote Democrat. The fact of the matter is there are a lot of jackasses supporting both parties who will do things like that. The supporters do not necessarily discredit the candidate

Just because some jobless hippies who want handouts from the government might want Kerry in office isn't reason enough to discount him, and just because some right wing nutjobs throw away ballots so they can keep their guns isn't reason enough to discount Bush.

Actually if you wanted to solve that you could always run for President... hopefully you would be appealing to yourself.

Seriously though I agree with the sentiment that one should vote their conscience. The only way we will ever get more non Democrats and non Republicans in office is to vote for them. So many of us talk about wanting a third party but i doubt many of us will actually vote for one. In this particular election most of us hate a candidate so much we will vote for the other guy just to make damn sure the one we don't want doesn't get in on our watch. (Before i get slammed i know people who feel strongly against one candidate and others who feel just as strongly against the other, that is what i'm referring to)

As someone said down in the IE parsing away bad code article there is a distinct difference in the sites that techie types go to and the type of sites your average web user might frequent. Most of the sites i go to are either professionally created, or better yet, just created by someone who knows what they're doing. I don't go to many sites where some punk just spewed a bunch of html out to prove how 1337 they are and tested it on IE and declared it good. The closest thing i ever see to that are crappy web surveys friends of mine put in their blogs. And by the way, slashdot occasionally won't render correctly for me and i have the latest Firefox (0.10.1) but normally a simple reload takes care of that.

the point is it's a little inaccurate for one person to say how the majority of websites do and don't work

  9. CD Profit on Wal-Mart Squeezing Record Labels to Cut CD Prices · · Score: 1
That is interesting... i would like to add that in some cases CD's are merely to attract a certain target demographic into the store (ie teenagers)

Example: I used to work at Best Buy, and our employee discount for buying things in the store was based on the cost of those items to the store. For CD's it was actually cheaper to not use the employee discount (i think later on it automaticly gave us the retail price anyway). When i asked why this was i was told that CD's are actually usually sold at or below cost. The only reason they are there is to get the people in the store and then hopefully they will buy some nice accessories or a new CD player with them. So i don't know about Wal-mart but i know that for Best Buy (and probably places like Circuit City since their prices are comprable) CD's are for marketing value, not profit

I can see why you might get defensive about people implying that scientists think they know everything, but i think this guy was just kidding.

I would also like to point out that whenever someone criticizes science they are immediately labeled as a religious nut and ignored. I think pure science is a great thing but i think many scientists either do not stick to it, or they allow funding or their own opinions to cloud it. Fortunately thats why we have people record their data and experiments so others can check them.

While it is true that science is based on looking at we don't know and trying to investigate it, there are some 'scientists' who really do think they know everything. That doesn't say anything bad about science, just people. People can be arrogant. Take a look around here and i'm sure you can come to that conclusion yourself

I think i agree with some of what I'm hearing from both sides. I think in public places where conversation is encouraged that people should be able to use their cell phones, and it is a good point that people manage to be plenty annoying without them as well. There definetly are places and situations where phones are not appropriate, like the movie theater, but there are other means of dealing with it. When i went to see ROTK in the theater they stood up front and informed us anyone who pulls out a phone risks getting it confiscated (due to the possibility of a camera). Of course the problem then is enforcing it because i think some asshat still let his phone ring during the movie. In those cases though the people surrounding them need to complain not just sit there and be pissed. For example, if someone sitting near you gets a phone call tell them to shut it up or get out. Just don't make so much noise you piss people off too. Most people wont care if they hear you say shut up to a loud person on a phone though
