I can't believe Andy Serkis wasn't nominated for best actor as Gollum... after seeing the TTT extended edition it amazes me just how much work he put into that character... i think he deserves some credit for that.
Oh well, once again the Academy doesnt agree with me
Actually in our country that is just a good way to make money. You either copyright an idea or reserve a domain and then you sell the rights for a ton of money to someone who can actually do something with it. It's not bad faith its simply good business. Acquire something that you think will be sellable someday, then hold out till you get an offer you like.
Yea he might not have written all of the code, but you gotta hand it to him, he definetly was (and still seems to be) a hell of a businessman. if you want to argue that i simply refer you to the money he made. Sure a lot of business can be about luck, but he sure capitalized on it.
This has to be one of the only places in the world where geeks with no girlfriends are the primary mockers of other geeks with no girlfriends.
the way i see it anyone making fun of that guy is either trying to mask their own lonliness or has a girlfriend and forgets how much of a dork he really is and how lucky he is that that chick puts up with him...
Actually the way i see it how do you decide which thing someone said was a lie? By and large people are completely full of bullshit... i think i'd just notice if the things said there was a chance the guy was telling the truth
See this is a case where having smaller classes is once again a better idea In high school my english teacher would know in an instant if someone hadn't written a paper because after a few in class essays she had some idea of our writing stlye. I know in colleges this might not be so practical, but that just makes me glad i go to a smaller school (classes of 20-30 instead of 100-200)
Good point, i do spend most of my time on the Internet IMming while im doing other things although TV is mostly a sit and stare activity.
I pretty much don't watch TV anymore partly for that reason, but also i find movies can be more social. No ones gonna come over to watch tv, but i have people over to watch movies from time to time, so that could be considered somewhat more social than wasting away in front of the tv
It seems like the big deal these days is to sell service. On things that its hard to get stupid little replacement parts for such as laptops and discmans they may actually be worthwhile.
This may affect price modeling as i think. Service costs are raised so that they can say look how much it costs to fix this? wouldnt you rather buy a warranty? (for them its a great deal because they make money, play the odds.) Having worked at Best Buy i will tell you they make a LOT of money on their service plans which is why the employees are pushed to reccomend them. Some things its not worth it (like a 20 dollar servics plan on a 50 dollar cd player) but for a several thousand dollar laptop, shelling out a nother hundred or two to get some kind of warranty may not be a bad idea.
I have a laptop my school has made me purchase, but i am glad they put an extended warranty on it because ive already had to replace the lcd screen, and the battery and i have only had it for just over a year
I wonder how much of this is a moot point because if they see 'suspicious' IP traffic whats to stop them from making like the RIAA and finding out who you are and then just placing an old fashioned microphone bug in your house? Even the best encryption doesnt do much against them listening to your voice from the next room... the solution to this kind of problem lies far away from just stopping them intercepting your email... we really do need to start holding our law enforcement more accountable again, like back in the days when you needed warrants for these things. Revising (or removing) the patriot acts might be a start
Whew, looks like i'm off the hook.... you however are in big trouble my friend :-p

Well i suppose money was more important to him than actually having any kind of ethics. Seems that happens a lot around this world of ours

We need some of you guys to crack this thing and set it to also attack the RIAA come on, you know its for the greater good

Do not meddle in the affairs of Tolkein-loving moderators for they are subtle and quick to anger
Is that so eh? Take off ya hoser!
