First off, if I can buy a movie that will look better on a TV I buy in a few years, why not buy it now? I have a 7 year old Sony with SVideo, and as I type this I should figure it out, but ASSUMING BlueRay will work on that, why not buy my movies on Blue Ray?
Those are blue rays... and yes, up here if I see a new release for $28 to low 30s, I am not suprised... so I hardly consider these to be 2-3x the cost. Maybe your getting screwed in your end of the world, but up here although I consider Blue Ray movies to be a BIT more expensive, I don't see it being 2-3x (if that was the case, I'd be putting $80-90 down per movie in some cases.)
So your saying a Blue Ray will cost $40 to $60? When I see them for sale for $30? Talking Canadian here, adjust accordingly if your in the US or wherever. Yes I'll pay a bit extra, but no I won't pay $60 for a movie. NOR DO I SEE ANY INDICATION OF THAT HAPPENING.
I also won't buy a Wii for $200 or w/e if a game costs $200 too, but I also don't see that happening.
Personally, since I'm likely to be buying a PS3 (ya, I'm one of those), chances are I will buy my movies as Blue Ray since, hey, why not. I won't go toss out every DVD and rebuy em all as Blue Ray even if I could, but anything I buy from there on end will be Blue Ray. And hey whaddya know... I bet a few other PS3 owners will feel the same.
Stop trolling... this may come as a shock but the PS3 is actually going to do more then run folding at home. This argument is as useless as saying why would I buy a PS2 or XBox since I already own a DVD Player.
"now bang" - was refering to the fact that, what i keep saying happens (I loose the ability to turn off the new comment system), happens. I appologize for it's use. I also appologize for the term blowing up.
I will attempt to re explain myself. If, in IE, I already have the new comment system enabled. I cannot turn it off. HOWEVER. If the new comment system is not enabled, I can turn it on. So, in summary: IE6 - New Comment System Already ENABLED - I get whitespace (that means, no little option button to disable it) below Discussion Style after entering Preferences then Comments IE6 - New Comment System Already DISABLED - I don't get whitespace below Discussion Style after entering Preferences then Comments.
As I've said, repeatedly, what happens, is I cannot turn off the new comment system if it is enabled in IE6.
Now, you've asked for the steps on how to recreate it. I've provided what you asked for. As I've now said twice, you want screenshot? Tell me where to send it.
Grumble... ok listen I've had a lousy day today, so I am sincerly sorry for the ranting. However being told "I don't believe you" over something like this (why would I make it up?) was enough to set me off. As well, your telling me it works fine in IE7... instead of saying "it works in IE7 you must be lying", what about asking if I was using IE6? Isn't it possible what works in IE7 would not work in IE6? I even said I would give you a screenshot, why would I be making this up?
Anyways. I appologize.
omg ok here is my post.. AGAIN.. check up. But just in case, here is what i wrote: "Preferences | Comments | and there it is.. I see it. HOWEVER... if I re-enable the University whatever option and saved it now bang... it's gone, all I get under Discussion Style is white space, the next line is Email Display (then lots of white space again, until the Disable Sigs checkbox.
again, this is a work environment so I don't get the luxury of IE7, I'm stick with IE 6.0 and probably won't for some time (we run Windows 2000, so we don't do cutting edge) Exact version is 6.0.2800.1106. If you like I can send in a screenshot, just tell me where."
So here, I'll reformat this in a way that will hopefully make more sense:
Here's whatcha do. Get the version of IE I just told you I did this in (scroll up for the exact version). Enable it in Firefox to recreate the situation I'm trying to tell you about. Now go into Internet Explorer 6 Go to PREFERENCES go to COMMENTS and all I get is whitespace below Discussion Style And just like I responded, If I ENLARGE IT, I can make them reappear. The issue is the CSS Style Sheet and Width, something to do with that. AGAIN, If You Want Screen Shots Tell me where to send them. And no, I don't expect you to wave a magic wand. I'm asking you to fix it, omg is that such an evil thing to do? Cripes, I'm telling you about a bug and all I get is "don't do it" "want me to wave a magic wand?"
My point is, if you read my original post, that i made the change in firefox and then it killed IE. So sorry but that was not an answer that would have worked. Guess I'm a crazy loser for wanting a way of turning off a feature that blows up my browser when I'm surfing this site. Guess i just wont surf it.
And people complain when they get an answer "well dont do that" from the big companies... but on slashdot that seems to be aok.
Preferences | Comments | and there it is.. I see it. HOWEVER... if I re-enable the University whatever option and saved it now bang... it's gone, all I get under Discussion Style is white space, the next line is Email Display (then lots of white space again, until the Disable Sigs checkbox.

And now I'm stuck without Slashdot comment viewing until I get home:-(
Wow... that's lame. Talk about a shame, WiFi in an MP3 player should be an amazing tool, but instead it's so locked up tight that it's practically useless. No wonder nobody has tried, the laws are so restrictive that so few will probably use it. Shame they did'nt turn the wifi into a broadcasting tool, allowing others to listen in, but not save, what they hear. That would be far more interesting.
... i can't, thats what I'm trying to say. Everytime I did (in IE) it blew up. Yes I could do it when I got home in Firefox but... I just think if you have a feature that blows up an App, it'd be nice to have the option to disable it in said app. How hard can that be?
please i BEG OF YOU.. change the preferences so that you can at least TURN IT OFF While forced to run IE. I enabled it while running Firefox, and at work it killed IE. I could'nt even turn it OFF, which ment no Slashdot while at work. Please just make it easy to turn off in IE. Please.
I'm also one of the few that enjoyed the game... ok some parts of it were pure crap, but going in bullet time was pretty sweet, even if Max Payne arguably did a better job in some respects. It wasn't a classic, but I definitly got my monies outa it.
This is actually pretty smart.. Sony can create their own "Live" system, go through all the growing pains of learning the mistakes Microsoft already made... orrrrrrrrrr they can go with a product that is established and works. Assuming they don't make XFire stupid in some way, this is probably the fastest way for them to "catch up" to live. Although honestly I don't think Live will make / break the consoles, I tried it once and wasn't impressed. I prefer the old fashion friends sitting on a couch within easy reach of a smack if they beat you at something:D
Not sure if TFA touches on it, but after seeing the trailers for the Dead Or Alive movie, I think my massively low expectations of the movie are way too high. This might give Mario Bros a run for it's money. Well ok maybe not that bad but still.
Did the PS2 ship with SVideo? did the XBox ship with Component or SVideo? Did the Gamecube? Sorry but why is this news? Hell did my DVI capable monitor ship with a DVI cable? No... would be nice if it did but did anyone EXPECT this? Looking for an answer above "but it's $600!"
Trackmania is a real amazing game... I always think of it as what Hotwheels on the PC SHOULD be. Screw physicis and realism, driving upside down for about 3 seconds on some massive half pipe is like virtually racing those hotwheels people had/have as a kid.
Played a ton of it at a big lan party called Fragapalooza, got more then a few people walking up and asking what it was. One of those $20 games that I got more enjoyment out of then some $60 ones.
I have no problem with in game advertising... to a point. Sports and racing comes to mind. Having real company names on the boards of the hockey arena or on billboards as you race in a city is great in my books. BF2142? Seeing an ad for toilet paper on the side of some mech that just blew me away is not my idea of a good idea.
My hardware is about a year and a half old... Geforce 6800 Ultra, 3.2EE Intel CPU, Gig of ram, Audigy 2 Soundcard. oh ya, thats why I dont get sound, that card is too old / the manufacturer is too obscure.. thats it! Last I checked Creative only officially released a driver for a previous release of Vista, not the public release. That's not microsofts fault persay, but from an enduser perspective that prevents the "just works" mentality you talk about.
And ya $200 is about right here in Canada. As for bug... load up Chess, change the... resolution? I think... and basically it'll zoom in so you can only see about 1/4 of the board. You try gadgets yet? I had to restart that a few times. Oh and for some reason my gamepad doesn't map properly. Again, preventing the just works thing your talking about.
Improvement yes, but the "just works" is a likely no. Of course both of us commenting on a product that is only in beta and saying "IT WILL BE PERFECT" or saying "IT WONT BE PERFECT" is pure speculation.
Well in my case I have an old Nokia phone thats about 6 years old. It doesn't hold a charge long enough to power up anymore, much less perform a factory reset (assuming thats an option in that phone) any idea how I could wipe it? I don't even know whats stored on it anymore. It's the one reason I haven't done anything with it yet like recycle.
Everything just works usability? What makes you say that? I've used the beta, and I think it's a good jump, but how do you know already that everything I do with it will "just work"? Good OS yes, fact it will be rock solid and all hardware you plugin will "just work" I dont buy. As for your 2-3x cost comparison..

Woo there's a workaround... if I resize the window size it seems to come back. Not very intuitive but at least it seems i can turn it back off.
Shame IE6 blows so bad and that I'm forced to use.
