Interesting Virtual Console list... I remember spending an entire weekend playing Space Harrier, trying to finish it before the rental was due Back =D. there's a number on there I know I'd be interested in buying off the bat (Bonk's Adventure always intrigued me, but not enough to buy the TurboGraphix thing) I'll probably pick a Wii up by year's end, or in January.
Oh it's not that bad I don't think... yeah if your a gamer run Windows, but Linux is hardly the lost cause this summary makes it out to be. The only game I play right now that I need Windows for is FFXI. In Linux I play Civ4, WoW, UT'04 without problems (Civ4 does crash time to time, but it does in Windows too). I'm actually impressed with how far it's gotten over the years. Long way to go, but keep up the good work the guys at Wine and Cedega (yes I bought Cedega, and yes I got my moneys worth outa it in my opinion)
I had no problems upgrading myself. No wait... VMWare died, but thats only because the kernel changed and I had to redownload the headers for it to recompile. Took about 30 seconds to figure out why the icon did nothing when I clicked.
So far so good here with FF 2.0 The one time it did shut down ungracefully (power loss) it seemed to restore gracefully back to the sites I had open, so big whoop.
Is that not what those scanners at the door do? Why aren't you arguing getting rid of those? "I'm a paying customer, why am I being searched electronically whenever I leave a store!"
I actually fully expect Sony to pull a Nintendo in the 90s. Nintendo had no competition other then Sega, and they probably got a bit of the same thing Sony has, ego, and thought we can do no wrong. THey made a few mistakes and they went from first in the 90s to second/third in the 2000s.
Will Sony still dominate after this round? Maybe, but definitly not as much as they once did. 2nd place overall would'nt suprsise me at all. Will they go out of business over this? Not by a long shot.
Sorry I've had a bad day... but um ya thats why I capitalized REGULAR... I know about the wii-mote or whatever, I'm just curious if I can upgrade my Wavebird or if I'm stuck with wireless and rumble with the Wii for games that don't use the Wiimotes sensor capabilities.
No differerent then when Nintendo lost the crown to Sony way back when. Back in the day, Nintendo was unbeatable for video games. Sega who? (Yes, I was one of the 4 people that owned a sega master system in North America)
Sony is upfront. It's not out, and they told you no rumble. So there goes that point. Their reasoning? They dont want to be strongarmed by a patent that is stupid to begin with. My question is... and I'm assuming the answer is yes: Is Nintendo making a wireless REGULAR controller with rumble? I haven't heard and just thought to ask that now. I'm assuming they're coming out with a Wavebird Mark II or somethin?
Yeah thats pretty much what I decided... my server's will remain 6.06, but my own personal desktop I'll give.10 a shot, doesn't seem that complicated a procedure to upgrade thankfully.
"Uh, that was really stupid. Cables only die when you abuse them; cutting them, rolling over them with your chair too many times, setting them on fire, etc. Batteries die when they have been charged and discharged enough times, when you use them as they are meant to be used. "
My point is... how long do you think the batteries are going to last? 2 years? 3? 5? I've seen controllers without batteries die in a year or less, so I don't think a let's say 3 year controller having the battery fail is going to make me cry. Not only that, but someone below pointed out the battery IS REPLACABLE.
"the future existence of third party wireless controllers does not invalidate his point in any way because third party controllers universally suck ass. even the one from logitech sucks, but only because they totally blew the feel of the controller and games designed to be played with one controller usually don't play well on another. "
I actually conceded this point, but also pointed out that if this is an omg show stopper, 3rd parties will exist to fill the hole. Personally I love my Logitech XBox wireless controller.
"For your Xbox, or Xbox 360? I got a universal cable that does s-video, composite, and dual rca audio that works on Second-Gen SNES up through Gamecube, and works on Xbox, PS1, and PS2 for $10. I'll assume you mean Xbox 360. This is $30 US on Amazon, but Lik-Sang has one with optical audio output for US$6.95. Obviously, you aren't looking very hard. "
Show me a $10 component video, the top end of what the PS2 and XBox are capable of as far as i know. And by the way, assuming I'm totally wrong, you just invalidated YOUR OWN POINT WHEN YOU SAID "I got a universal cable that..." let me guess, this universal cable isn't sold by Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony is it??? Everyone knows first party cables are a premium, and it's not a new PS3 thing. Yesh.
rootkit, giant crabs, PS2 can do Toystory... for hte love of god do I have to listen to that inane babble for the next 15 years????
"1. The unit draws 2X the current of the 360. The means the unit has to dissipate 2X the heat of the 360, so don't tell me Sony isn't going to have overheating issues. And since they (proudly) display that they don't use a brick (ever get the feeling the PS3 is just Sony trying to knock-off the Xbox1?), the heat sources are concentrated inside the unit. It is appropriate that the thing looks like a George Forman Grill."
Possibly valid, I don't know since I don't have one / know anyone that has one... apparently you do tho.
"2. The controllers have non-removable rechargable batteries in them. Once they go, the controller has to be thrown away. I guess Sony found a place to dump their exploding lithium ion batteries..."
Did you know that the PS2 had non removable cables to power them? Once the cable goes... you'd have to buy a new controller!!!!
"3. Because of the non-removable batteries, you don't have the convenience of swapping batteries mid-game and continuing to play wireless. This is one of those features that isn't flashy, but once you've used it, you can't live without it. On the 360, if your batteries die mid-game you can quickly swap in another battery pack. Microsoft also gave you the option of using standard batteries or rechargable packs."
Wait for the 3rd party controllers, other then that, valid point.
"4. $50 for an HDMI cable? Tell me that isn't pure soaking. Heck, the PS3 doesn't even come with an S-Video cable (I bet 1080P looks awesome on composite output), guaranteeing at least one additional accessory purchase at retail."
Right, and the XBox, XBox 360, Gamecube, N64, PS2, PS1, SNES, NES always came with the highest end cable available right? I have to buy a new SVIdeo cable for my XBox, you know how much? $50 Canadian. $50 US for HDMI doesn't sound so bad.
I presume your boycotting Toshiba, Panasonic, Microsoft, Apple, and pretty much every other main stream electronics / hardware company as well right? I'd hate to think your just bandwagon jumping, and since you've held out since 04, I imagine that's a safe bet.
Already happens, FFXI Auction Houses charge a percent to put stuff up for sale for others to buy. In the major cities it's pretty pricey. I seriously doubt they're trying to tax virtual economies tho. So what, the IRS gets a billion gold in WoW because you filed tax on each of your toons. and whats the point of that? If they want to go afte rthe ebay'ers thats fine with me.
Yeah, on other sites I do actually read some pro PS3 stories, but Slashdot's agenda doesn't allow for that. Most other sites are negative too most of the time, but at least they do throw the odd positive in. Me being the type to go against the flow is really wanting to get a PS3 more and more.
Has it occured to you that some people murder because they don't think sane like you do? To assume that 95% of murderer's are sane and are *insert sad pouty look* "very sowwy:-(" they did that is insanity unto itself. Sorry but to think you can send most murderers away for a few years and expect councelling to solve all their problems is wrong, just wrong.
This is an article about the friggin NORTH KOREANS, yet all I read is about the United States. It's frustrating to go to a site about this and just hear politics about a country I don't live in... 80% of what I read is off topic garbage. Sigh.
Actually yes, most friends I have, who don't follow geek stuff but enjoy their games (low to mid 20s) expressed interest in it. They're not sure how the Wii thing works, but since telling them they can use the gc controller are starting to consider it. Chances are most will have a ps3 within a year (I doubt any will pre order / go near the launch tho) Being able to play Blu Ray is in fact a bonus for them. If they have to have additional space in their entertainment centers to ensure airflow... big whoop.
Have you ever considered that the more people with nukes the more likely it will be that we will have a nuclear incident? All it takes is one madman. So ya, everytime I hear about a new country with nukes, I'm not cheering. Sorry, but the answer to the nuclear problem is not a nuke in ever home, or every country either. The answer is LESS COUNTRIES with nukes, not MORE. No nukes for China, Iran, Russia, OR the US. That should be common sense.
I saw one in Japan... was pretty impresseed although the technology still has a ways to go. Reading on these is MUCH easier then staring at a regular LCD screen.
Rumbles the first thing I turn off usually.. I really don't get the deal, a handful of games it's useful in, but the rest it's just filler. Honestly the tilt thing doesn't do it for me either.
Myeh... I honestly don't take into consideration anyone saying xyz product is crap these days. I have a PS2, XBox, and GC. Only had problems with the XBox. I've heard a lot of stories about the PS2, but mine's been running solid for years. I honestly think the quality of any product like a console is probably less then stellar, and you either get lucky or you don't. Now I'm hearing the 360 had issues. I imagine the PS3 will too. Wii? Nothing indicating yet but who knows.
Same with phones... I had a treo 600 for over a year no problem, but you could also read about someone with 4 treo's in 4 months. *shrug*

Now that I finished installing 4 Ubuntu systems this week this would happen...
"Uh, that was really stupid. Wow nice job... makes me wish I had the energy to even come up with an idea like this :D

If this is such a dealbreaker... why the success of Nintendo's wavebird?
