Since when is Blu Ray a "proprietary standard" by Sony? Last I heard the mix is roughly half and half between HD and BD. I'm voting to stay with DVD myself right now, but I'm tired of the whole "Blue Ray = Sony" thing. Sony is a member of the group, but isn't the only one.
Don't even JOKE about LV3... Lost Vikings was frickin awesome... granted I never played much of the sequal, but that game was gold. Definitly under appreciated.
Honestly I think it's good to see them try and revamp a system once in awhile like the menu bar... I always found Office's to be massively confusing for the end user. Is it under Tools | Options? Tools | Customize? File | Page Setup? Tools?
With that said I'm concerned from what was said about the Ribbon interface... Outlook only occasionally uses it? Visio doesn't at all? Your going to have end users switching back and forth between UI in a package designed to be "all in one"
The idea about using the width of the screen more sounds pretty good.. maybe office 2009.net XP Ultimate edition will make use of Widescreen monitors better.
Saw this coming right when they started talking about "Trusting Computing" and it's ilk. I'll wait for a 3rd party program that runs BD or HD even if it has to run it at a lower res, these guys have to realize that if nobody can use their stuff, that NO FORMAT is going to win. DVD is probably going to trump both HD and BD anyways, and this is just another nail.
Going to Japan I was impresed with their toilets (speaking of the "North American style", never actually used a hole in the floor one), and some of them were quite... impressive. The control panel on the side controlled lots of features, some I could figure out, some I did'nt even try touching. If there was no electricity (as was pointed out above) it just worked like a normal toilet, I know this since I accidently turned one off once. Being able to wash is really a great idea, I can see why they'd consider that more hygenic. And who can argue with a seat warmer? Like a lot of things we've really fallen behind back here, no pun intended. If I buy a house I'll probably splurge on the throne.
I run a projecter as well, nice to have screen sizes that are impossible without spending $50k. Projectors are of course still not perfect, you need to have it semi dark in the room (it's MUCH better then before, but still difficult in bright rooms) but other then that they can't be beat. I find the image to be quite good and you can't get more portable then that! If you have a media room then you probably also dont have massive bay windows letting in daylight. Mine's lasted me for a couple of years already, and I managed to flash it's firmware to apparently get an other 1000 hours of bulb life left.
You know, that might actually be a really great use. Touch Sensitive buttons kinda worked for peeking around a corner, but imagine just tilting it ever so slightly to take a quick look around the corner. That might be really cool.
I beat that game a few times... level design wasn't that bad, especially for the time and hey, killing people by out dancing them, how can you top that?
Although I agree with the other responses that this is open source tactics and good in that respect, I can't see how requiring all those steps will be good if your someone developing and actually wants lots of people to play your game... When I read this I initially thought cool I could get my game out there and if it's good enough could have it downloaded by millions of people (in theory) now it's if my game is good other developers can compile it and play it for a bit. Not bad per say, but not what I had hoped for either. This reminds me more of the PS2 Linux kit which, for 90% of PS2's out there, was useless.:-/
Not a Fanboy, but I do enjoy the series (is there a difference?) anyways.. although the games are all called Final Fantasy, it's not like the 13th game is about the same cast of characters like Star Trek, or even takes place in the same universe. There are simularities, but in all honesty most of the games could each be called completely different and still make sense. You don't need to play Final Fantasy 5 to understand Final Fantasy 6 for example. Unoriginal naming? yes very, but these are not sequals (excluding games like X-2)
I find it entertaining when an AMD Fanboy wishes that Intel would die... if that was to happen, AMD would literally have a MONOPOLY on the market, and become what they hated most... or wait... do they think AMD would never become the "bad guy" like Intel did? Sure right.
Rarely will you pay what somethign is worth... but that doesn't matter. Diamonds are about luxury, same reason people buy expensive homes cars and vacation time shares. You don't pay it because it's reasonably priced, you pay it because you want it. Explaining to your fiance why she will have a piece of glass vs a real diamond will probably result in you not needing one anyways.
For the record I do consider them a waste, but then again so would girls say about my XBox, PS2, Gamecube, 20 Gig MP3 player etc etc etc... And if I could afford a fancy useless sports car I'd probably buy one too.
I was at Frag '06 up here in Canada, and both Intel and nVidia talked about their latest / greatest stuff. The nVidia guy seemed to be very excited about the AMD / ATI merger. The feeling he tried to give us was, will Crossfire remain open? Or will it only work on AMD based systems in the future? On th reverse, considering how many AMD systems sold use the nForce chipset, AMD would be crazy to lock nVidia out. I'm not sure they'd do that, but it's possible.
I've owned 4 AMD systems... two were K6-2 350's rock solid and easily overclocked. A 700 that died within 7 months, and thanks to the chipsets sucking took a month to make work after buying it. I also run a 1.3, that because of heat (60+) I have to underclock to 1.1. Tried various traditional aircooling, but not much luck. On the reverse I've never had an Intel die on me. That's just my personal experience, and I am sure there's someone with an exact opposite experience as me.
Although a good question, I bet he'd say the same thing now, considering Intel has 75% of the server market. AMD is catching up, and good for them, but they're not Intel yet, which is a good thing.
Um, no CLI? bzzt wrong, they more tightly integrated the two, but it's still very possible to run strictly CLI, I know this because that's how I run, and I'm running the latest.
I have no doubt that WiFi can be incredibly secure, and even in our case would work, but our security folks redefine paranoia to the point of stupid (for example, instead of going with VLAN, they forced us into seperate physical hardware units.... which at the router seperates the traffic on VLANs anyways grrr!)
with that said tho... even with all the security of Wireless, I think a hardened wired network will always be more secure then a hardened wireless network (simple differences of the Physical Layer imo), but a secured Wireless network is MUCH better then a mickeymouse wired one, and for 99.999999% of the world a properly built wireless network is probably good enough.
I work for a large organization (thousands of users of hundreds of sites) and manage about 2000 users worth myself. Without going into too much detail I dont think we found the magic bullet. CiscoWorks and Optivity (ESPECIALLY OPTIVITY) are frankly POS systems, at least in our situation. MAC Address is an option, but it's far from 100%, and requires pinpoint inventory of every device on / will be on / surplused (good look with the last one) equipment. Wireless is NOT an option, from both speed and security (although I like wireless, I can't say airwaves are as safe as a cable which would require a vampire tap to get into, not as easy as sitting in another office) in our organization. Besides I have zero say in the matter.
the one idea i DO like, is any "external" access points, such as those where external clients may wander, those are locked to specific mac ports. However I think the best would be an inventory system tied into user accounts, that can track both machines and users as they go about. Having an organization that supports best practices for inventory is absolute must. If you can't say for sure what hardware exists, it's impossible to deny access to illegitimate users. Of course an organization the size your talking that's easier said then done. Eliminate as much room for user error as possible for inventory is another suggestion, such as grabbing machine info automatically.
The problem I think is as much the tools, as is the people and the fact we're inheritently lazy. Sorry for not an answer, but that's my take on it. Good luck.
in Tokyo, and I was very impressed... my x51v PDA is just a bit smaller overall then this and only runs WM5. However it's not something u can easily stick in your pocket so not sure when i'd use it... Still I drooled over it:P
Ya but this aint news... hell, doesnt anyone realize that buying either the Wii, 360, or PS3, IS NOT NEEDED SPENDING? It's ALL a "waste" of money if you want to get technical. So why not articles about what you can spend instead of buying a computer, 360, Wii, DS, PS2, hell dreamcast. This is just "omgz Sony is teh sux" not news.
Sorry I dont follow... are you saying Intel (or AMD) shouldnt compare their newest chips with anything until the other releases a chip after that? Or are you saying it's unfair to compare 90 micron vs 65 micron chips together?
"Intel has the (apparent) fastest chip out there"
"who cares, it's on 65 micron, we should'nt talk about 65 micron until all suppliers use 65 micron"
Just trying to figure out how what you wrote wasn't Fanboyism, please prove me wrong.
I just hope then that when AMD releases a chip that beats this out, you'll be crying foul play because "poor Intel doesn't have XYZ and we should wait until Intel catches up to be fair"
Voice recognition does work, does exist, and is in use. Our department uses Dragon Naturaly Speaking as well as a few others for some of our staff that have limited mobility. Is there still a long ways to go? Yes no doubt, but it is out there. I haven't personally played with it for about 5 years (moved to a different job), and even back then I was pretty impressed.
How is this insightful? Are you saying that Quake has the same graphics quality, level design, story line etc of Half Life 1 or 2? CONTENT?? Unreal Tournament doesnt have more content then Quake? Hell UT has TOO MUCH content imo. Honestly I could'nt even finish Quake 1, I found the brown on brown texturing boring, the weapons looked horrible (I remember playing the... multiplayer beta or something... and thinking oh these guns must not be the final ones, they look horrible). I kept thinking how better Doom was. Quake 2 was the first good quake, but the only one I could handle playing for a long long time was Q4. Quake was a revolutionary Engine, but to say thats as good as it got... yesh.

Put me down for Billy Lee from Double Dragon. The original beat em up superstars XD
