One thing that always got me... if the powers that be had the same mentality now back a few hundred or thousand years ago, where would we be? America would not have been discovered (not to get into the "pros and cons of that / who discovered it first" type conversation) if we waited until it was safe until like the 1900s.
In fact, it seems pretty obvious to me that if you want to be on the frontier, you had better be willing to accept risks or to get out of the way for those that are. I have a lot more faith in corporations that are willing to think outside the box or countries with less lawyers then the US making it happen...
If anyone can ever make manned space travel more then a place for doing expensive research, I think you'd see a potential shift in the world powers
Not suprised but... honestly, as fps's go, thje pc is years ahead... before i rant let me say i've played halo2, and really enjoy it. great game, step in the right direction. GOTY? No way... for XBox sure, but not all systems.
hl2 and d3 have better graphics... I've like dthe vehicles in UT2004 better, for Melee? JK Academy. Story? Tough, but I'd probably still pick hl2.
Each to their own but... really Halo2,mauy be the best CONSOLE FPS, but in this market PC is where it's at..
btw excuse the spelling / grammer, i've got 2 bandaged fingures so typing is toughre then usual:)
seriously... i'm bad luck. I almost never subscribe, only done it twice.
First it was Compute (I think, anyways), what i considered a wonderful mag back when I subscribed to it (early 90s?), had programming snippits, what i considered half decent reviews and such... and then got forced over to some unremarkable mag about 4 months after i subscribed to them, as Compute got pulled.
5 days ago I signed up for GMR (after getting it with the EB Edge card previously) and now they are cancelling them, too. From now on I only subscribe to magazines I hate...
Ignoring the whole "it's annoying" thing (i agree), potential cost issues... the thought that, it's the 21st century and they may let us actually use cell phones on planes? Gasp! About frickin time you ask me. Plane travel has gotten so bad that your lucky to get peanuts (which im' alergic to anyways) on the plane, seats are uncomfortable, and you can't use a device that's been around for 20 years...
The future is never as exciting as they tell ya.
Just downloading it now (looks like it's an IE only download experience >:/) anyways if it's anything like the second one, yes it's designed to stress the computer more then what the game is (in the second there's a scene with dozens and dozens of little annoying taru characters all doing some emote stuff) as for the graphics, yeah it's definitly not the most beautiful game, but it's far from ugly (personal opinion anyways) it' no EQ2 thats fer sure. So no, if you ever did play this game don't expect 5fps, unless you max the details (on an ATI 9600 it ran fine except in extreme in game weather conditions)
FB5D1205892381DC8AF9042BBE88A274 which is obviously different then whatyou got, and i've downloaded twice getting that exact same hash mark... going to try it with Internet Explorer later on and see if that makes a difference.
Slashdot is definitly not objective... however I think the arguments made here are pretty valid... I mean you never hear of SpyWare for Linux or MacOS, if there are it's not nearly as prolific as Windows Spyware, and honestly, I've never gotten SpyWare with Firefox... however, I've used Internet Explorer for, oh, 20 minutes since my last format, and I've already had some programs phoning home (my fault for not running ZoneAlarm or some such program.. oh well) And yes, I only got those programs after running IE..
I'm sure that eventually, if not already, some spyware will exist for non MS products, but until their market share drops out of the 80-90% range, MS products are always going to be mroe "dangerous" then non
Don't mean this as a troll or anything but...
This is probably one of the contributing factors to the lack of developer support for the PC platform for gaming. On my console, I can pop in a DVD disc and away I go. No disc swapping, no trying to reduce video quality so it will fit on a CD. Heck, next gen consoles are already looking at higher storage mediums then DVD, while PC's are using the floppy disc of the 21st century.
If the same people that say DVD discs are unnecessary won out back in the days the CD was making a break through... *shudder*
progress is good... spend the $30 and buy a drive
I just picked the game up (pre ordered, but was sick) and haven't played a single minute yet... but drawing from what i've read of the reviews, previews, halo 1 impressions etc..
Game of the year is a bit far fetched... I don't think it's a bad game, actually I had a lot of fun in Halo 1 in Co Op mode with a friend on my projector, which removed the split screen headache since it was a 70ish inch display. But compared to FPS's on the PC, this game doesn't hold a candle... D3's graphics, to me, are much much better, the physics in HL2 are amazing, etc. To me Halo 2 is a more simplistic FPS, which isn't a bad thing, but is hardly earth shatteringly amazing. Frankly I think MS is overhyping this since without Halo.. well.. i'd really pitty the XBox. Sure, maybe the best FPS on XBox or other consoles, but I would draw the line there. Good game yes, best game EVER... no.
my 2 cents..
as a "Creationist" I think this is great, although I did'nt RTFA, I imagine that at least some of the drive for this was based on Religion asking these questions of science, and science responded. I have no idea if the earth was made in 6 days literaly or figuratively, and really, that part isn't what I call a defining characteristic of my faith.
Science definitly does not rule out Religion, and Religion definitly does not rule out Science... anything that furthers our understanding of the work God has done, to me makes me appreciate it all the more.
Fix a car no.. but maintence on a car.. yes. If you don't know how to check your oil, windshield washer fluid, heck how to fill the gas tank, your not going to get far.
I agree that we don't need the world being able to repair failed hardware or troubleshoot irq settings (Bad example I know) but being able to keep their computer "clean" and in decent working order should be achievable.
Not saying it's the end users fault completely, software and hardware still has a ways to go before it's as easy as it probably should be for the average Joe (or Jane) but people do need to take more interest in these "new fangled computer thingies" if they're gonna use em.
My 2 (CAN funds) cents
for great good or great evil... Depending on how they make it the game could be quite good, but the license can be a double edged sword. Look at Galaxies. Half the time what they do doesn't make sense from the fiction point of view (The whole Holocron grinding bit), and the other half the fiction "gets in the way" like Battledroids. Lots of ppl wanted them when I stopped playing, but last I heard it was a "sorry the fiction doesn't allow that, so your not getting what would make the game fun for you" line. Had they made the game say take place in the KOTOR timeline they could have had a lot more freedom (aka more Jedi's) instead of this very short and highly scripted timeline they chose. Just my two cents though.
I HOPE they can make the game both fit the fiction and an enjoyable experience, but some MMO's have a way of leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Sorry for a "double post" but yeah, use IE it works fine downloading with that (IE 6.whatever) Bahaumut vs Airship... Sweetness...

Ya ya, mod this as off topic but, Whaddya mean TH don't accept Interac? I use it all the time there... Maybe it's an Albertan thing...
