That's such a poor excuse of an argument... Companies hire people with psychology degrees to help with product development / placement all the time... They don't sit in some back room and say "hey how's the best way to get people to play these 24/7 and kill themselves"... in fact these companies don't care how MUCH you play, simply that you pay per month (I've paid for UO for over a year and never played it... yeah thats stupid I know)

I don't see how this is different then a company making a new widget, and talking with psychologists to see which color they should make the widget to increase sales.

It's like the violence in videogames thing... ok you want to ban violence in them? Then lets start burning books, cancelling 80% of TV shows, destroying movies etc that don't involve pretty rainbows and cute rabbits. If hiring psychologists are so evil I want all advertising to be stopped too, as I may become addicted to Pepsi.

Paramount/whoever has been milking that franchise heavily for the past several years and perhaps they just need to take an extended break (several years, not months) to rebuild interest with the general public. The break between the original series and Next Gen was huge, so why are we having series after series after series all the time (other then the obvious to squeeze every nickel out of it)?

if thats all it was, yes I would agree. But it's not just someone with a map of spawn points campin out for a few hours. It's about people camping these spawns specifically to sell back to make a profit. Which is in violation of the TOS. And not just for a few hours, try 24/7 for weeks on end. I'm sorry but that is not normal play. They have people that take "shifts" on these accounts to ensure they get it.

yes ffxi could be designed better in this respect, but it doesn't give them any right to break the TOS.

it's rather hard to explain to someone that hasn't played an MMO, but the negative ramifications of "gil selling" is pretty big.

  5. Why this is bad on MMOG Currency Seller Owns Media Network ? · · Score: 1

Ok so people don't get why this is bad, because in the real world life isn't fair etc.... first off the obvious answer is because this is a GAME, not REAL LIFE. games are supposed to be FUN, that should be the reason people play games, not to make a profit. The way these companies work is not just some joe selling his stuff because he's done, this is highly organized bot farms that causes the majority of players to not have fun. MMORPG's should not perfectly mirror the real world, so the argument "well it's not fair in the real world so get over it" is completely invalid.

Next up... "if I have more money then spare time why should'nt i move ahead and have more fun?" Well ignoring the fact that your "having more fun" means that the vast majority of people can't have fun, using this logic, if I pay the teller at the grocery store an extra $5 to go in front of everyone, that's ok too huh? So what if someone else pays $10 to get in front of that guy? Then someone else pays $20? And the guy that actually was first in line but can't outbid, well, the world isn't fair but that's ok.

Finally, to those that say "who cares it's only a game".... very true... however like anything that you pay a service for, if someone else disrupts it, why should'nt you get upset? And of course, with that argument you can also say "it's only music, who cares what the RIAA does" or "it's only movies, who cares what the MPAA says you can and can't do"

Yeah the MMO's are much better off with IGE all right... now that prices have sky rocketed to 10x what they were, nobody can fight the big monster because it's overcamped with bots...

And from a technical standpoint, I'd say quite superior (like the lack of zoning you mentioned, that kicks ass), and I'm quite confident WoW is going to overcome these growing pains like most MMO's before and become one of the top rated MMOs ever.

I just find it too easy for my tastes. Yes I know it goes far beyond 100 for crafitng in WoW, i've actually gone higher, but the fact I get what would equal roughly level 12 in FFXI, in 30 seconds... sorry that's still way WAY too easy, imho. WoW is good for some people.. I call the game noob friendly just because it's so.. well.. freakin easy. Lets see... level 1-50 in cooking? that took me... oh... 30 seconds? Click a button, wait, presto level 50. Which is pretty sweet... but makes me wonder when everyone has reached "end game" within the first year, what people are going to be doing after that I don't know.

Yes FFXI is instituting a new fishing system... long overdue and I imagine they took a look at WoW and borrowed some ideas... but if you actually rtfa it's not the same system as WoW's... I would dare say it's superior.

now the day I hear "daboo" or whatever the orcs say in all the Warcraft games in FFXI, then I'll buy the FFXI turn into WoW theory :-)

People claimed the game would be dead in a year, lawsuits were made, Coaster of the year awards given, etc etc... yet, long after the game should be gone imho, it's still kickin.

I told friends that WoW would have downtime... they're like no, they're Blizzard, they got experience, they'll get it right. And now that I'm proven right, they're pissed at Blizzard.

I still standby the statement that, for the first 6 months to a year of an MMO's life, expect problems. If you don't want problems, wait for the first expansion pack. They'll eventually fix it, and in a year people will forget all about these problems, and complain that the Ultimate World of Everlasting Quests, the latest MMO released, and proclaimed as the second coming, has problems.
