You ignore the fact that in order to make the money they are making they have to "please the people that enjoy music." Just because you don't like the music doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy it.
Now that I've actually finished watching the video, I'm not sure what you're getting at. He seems to make it pretty clear that he sees the future as being similar to the current state of PCs where the underlying console is irrelevant so long as its accessed through a common interface. While it does lead to monopoly situations like Windows, it does not limit users to a specific hardware option.
Also I don't think your grandma would have to worry as much about someone spoofing her email address and sending crap with it, but then again you never know.
Thats just like saying your grandma doesnt have to worry about securing her computer becuase noone would be interested in hacking her system. Thats how you end up with all these worms that feed off random insecure systems. You really think spammers give a shit what the random email address they choose to spoof is? I mean I get emails from xjrr3@gsdfkgjlsg.com
As much as we all dislike the RIAA's current crusade, I think a lot of people have lost site of what the RIAA is and who its members are. The RIAA is not some cartel of the big music labels like Sony. The RIAA is simply a lobbying group created to make sure the small labels have as much sway as the big labels by banding together. While it sucks that the music labels are trying to get more money out of iTunes, I do not think the RIAA is to blame here.
The US prosecutes drug kingpins in foreign countries because they (indirectly) distribute their drugs on American soil, which is illegal. I assure you the United States does not prosecute local drug dealers in foreign countries.
Again, you can only set copyright licensing terms if you own the copyright to begin with! The original WASTE was released under the GPL without permission by someone without the authority to license it (although he was the author, copyright is granted to the employer). Therefor the original GPL license is no more valid then if you were to release the leaked windows source under the GPL. That being said, unless VIA got permission from AOL to release it, they too licensed it illegaly making their GPL release invalid as well.
Your analogy is invalid. Sure if you want bread you can get it from anyone, but if you want wonderbread you can only get it from wonderbread. Just like if you want a movie you can get it from anyone, but if you want a LOTR movie you can only get it from New Line.
no default Windows Media player != no default player! it means OEMs are free to install whatever player they want
OEMs are already free to install whatever player they want. They also have the ability to change the default player, and remove the icons, etc for windows media player as per the US antitrust ruling. By removing WMP entirely, you're hurting the Windows platform by stripping the ability of developers to predict compatability.
People need to stop being clouded by the veil of the internet. Distributing pirated materials to a computer located in the United States, run by a person located in the United States is no different than say, flying to the United States, dealing cocaine to Americans, then proceeding to fly home. Would you oppose extradition in that case?
Along the same lines is the notion people have that hacking is okay, while breaking into someones office uninvited to "test their security" is not.
Judging from your text, I do not believe you have ever read the United States Constitution. The Constitution is not a document that describes what Americans can or can't do whatsoever. Rather, it is a document that limits the laws the government can create/enforce.
Personally, I think it should be up to the provider if they want to provide 911 or not.
I'm a capitalist, and as such my instictive reaction is that the market should dictate whether or not providers support 911. If I want to save money by not getting 911 support for my phone I should be allowed to do that, right? Well my problem with that is that if I were in an emergency chances are I'll need to rely on someone else having 911 support, not just myself, and without regulation I couldn't. It is because of this unique societal benefit that I feel 911 must be regulated.
I'm all for this. Sure, it'll cost more and that sucks. On the other hand, however, I feel that this was one of the larger hurdles stopping the wider adoption of VoIP. By forcing compliance through regulation you ensure that those providers who do provide the (rather important) 911 support will be able to compete price wise with those who would otherwise choose not to.
Violence only succeeds when you completely eradicate your opposition. If you don't, all it does is breed hatred amongst the survivors. Unless you track down and kill every last person who opposes your will, you're going to have to deal with those who hate you because you've destroyed their lives and families.
This is completely and utterly untrue. Did the Union eradicate the confederates? Did the allies eradicate the axis? Did the Texans eradicate the Mexicans?
I can tell from your post that you don't much venture away from your computer as you obviously have never met someone with even an ounce of pride/arrogance.
I always thought that the court doesn't have the power to rule on how reasonable a law is. Instead it was my belief that the court's duty was to decide whether or not a law violated the rights granted to the people in the Constitution. It would appear I was misguided on this point, and if that is the case then thank you for enlightening me.

Well its comforting to know that their biggest competitor in the market, Sony, would never try to lock people into proprietary standards..

Nonmember? Is that meant to be some kind of pun?
Apple lost that lawsuit because they licensed the look and feel to Microsoft, not because their case had no merit.

Yes it can, if the person who released it wasn't authorized to. I can release the windows source under the GPL, but that doesn't mean its valid.
Neither IM or E-mail requires that you not have all incoming ports firewalled off.
The problem with WMP for instance is that it only exists for Windows
Funny, because I wonder what this is all about.

How does the government watching you, in itself, restrict your freedom?

Since it wasn't exploited before the patch was released, no it does not count.

...until they force voip providers to provide that information too, like cell phones.
