Yes, so it is who used the words, "out there?" Qualitatively speaking. And out there may be "in there," as far as we are concerned, and on many other occasion, "right on."
The record companies are not giving Amazon a break on price. Amazon is eating the margin, hoping to buy their way into the market place. It doesn't matter if they break even or loose money right now as long as they can get a foothold. I like the DRM free aspect, as does everyone.
I can say that the service I had with Vonage was awful. I switched over 3 phone lines and fax and all hell broke loose. Yes they have really neat features and great pricing. On one number I had 4 phones, it's suppose to handle 5, nope, didn't happen. They switched my phone numbers in 24 hours, but go and try and get them back, it took weeks (so much for the 30 day money back garauntee, it doesn't exist) Good luck to them, but they have a ways to go.
From the article, "has been removed from her position to become a special advisor to Assistant Deputy Minister Jean-Pierre Blais with "duties still to be determined."
I've been around the teachers, school administrators and IT for the school. What tech says is that all the programs being pushed at the schools only do 2 things: (1) Give the teachers more work that they already have. (2) Do not engage the students. Gaming, or, toward gaming - yes, but what this article fails to reveal, and what those developing the programs aren't getting is that there is more to gaming than "Video Games." Bidding on Ebay is a game, uploading to You Tube or posting on MySpace or Facebook is a game, and last but not least, submitting and commenting on Slashdot is, um... a game, and um... educational (scratches head).
Google and others have already figured out how to steal their ad revenue
You are on the money. I agree with all you have said, except the "stealing." Google and others with "eyes wide open" have seen the new paradigm in distribution and advertising revenue and have figure out multiple ways to capitalize on it. And yes, those that are making deals will survive in some shape or form.
Actually, You Tube's business model is based on un-copyrighted material. Viacom has more to loose in the long run than a measly billion dollars as they don't understand the advertising model of the future: ie, they get free advertising. The other networks have figured this out and have joined the party. I place my bet on You Tube.
and another thing, Fox should be smart like a fox and stop all this sillyness... wake up, smell the coffee and enjoy the ride;;; uploaded anything increases television viewing of the particular show (most of the time).
These are good points and I agree (slightly) that politics and entertainment feel exclusionary, but there are ways to work your way into the fray. Politcs is politics (no where near the exceptional area in Slashdot) and Entertainment, I'd only expect what is going on in that area, and again, you can get a foothold if you so choose. What I really like about Local though, is that finding my town "empty" of posts, it leaves it wide open for the beginning of something. This is an apparatus, being road tested, and the tires need to be kicked among other things. Don't cha think?
I like that it's focused in three areas, and not all over the place. That will increase their odds of success, not to mention the revenue stream from the advertising on the sites will help fund Wikipedia.
It seems that China has always quickly doled out heavy punishment for what it deams crime hoping to get the "big" message across to "the people." It apparently works, as they do have a very low crime rate in comparison to say, the good ole USA.
Might be that her private sever was safer, off the radar, see as how often government severs have been hacked. Just sayin'.
Yup, you are right about the weather.
Games will drive this. It is that simple. Read? No, let's game.

I see a follow-up article here.

Skull and Cross Bones Alert - Greed begets pirates, so more greed begets more pirates streaming music; and then it really gets "X-xciten."
I love the sound of that.

And with Vista's Mac-look-alike interface confusing the hell out Windows addicts, it may be Microsoft forcing them to think "switch."
Agree with you. Doesn't the future iPhone tout doing just this? It would mean that Cingular (ATT) is going to go this way too.
To live outside the law, a man has to be honest. (Bob Dylan)
And more to the point. Do we want to rely on a home broadband connection for us to set off our alarms accidentally?

What I like is that along with the innovation, Apple continues to think more about the customer than M$, in more ways than one. Fanboy, yup.
if you haven't seen "Hacking Democracy" you better.
The thesis is Microsoft needs to find their un-Vista? Hardly! Microsoft needs to find their heart. Or grow one.
Amen.
All of this brings new meaning to 98.6.

And bad karma, that ultimately leads to their early demise. The sooner the better.
