  5. Re:profit margin on Amazon MP3 Vs. iTunes Music Store · · Score: 1

The record companies are not giving Amazon a break on price. Amazon is eating the margin, hoping to buy their way into the market place. It doesn't matter if they break even or loose money right now as long as they can get a foothold. I like the DRM free aspect, as does everyone.

I can say that the service I had with Vonage was awful. I switched over 3 phone lines and fax and all hell broke loose. Yes they have really neat features and great pricing. On one number I had 4 phones, it's suppose to handle 5, nope, didn't happen. They switched my phone numbers in 24 hours, but go and try and get them back, it took weeks (so much for the 30 day money back garauntee, it doesn't exist) Good luck to them, but they have a ways to go.

I've been around the teachers, school administrators and IT for the school. What tech says is that all the programs being pushed at the schools only do 2 things: (1) Give the teachers more work that they already have. (2) Do not engage the students. Gaming, or, toward gaming - yes, but what this article fails to reveal, and what those developing the programs aren't getting is that there is more to gaming than "Video Games." Bidding on Ebay is a game, uploading to You Tube or posting on MySpace or Facebook is a game, and last but not least, submitting and commenting on Slashdot is, um... a game, and um... educational (scratches head).

Google and others have already figured out how to steal their ad revenue

You are on the money. I agree with all you have said, except the "stealing." Google and others with "eyes wide open" have seen the new paradigm in distribution and advertising revenue and have figure out multiple ways to capitalize on it. And yes, those that are making deals will survive in some shape or form.

Actually, You Tube's business model is based on un-copyrighted material. Viacom has more to loose in the long run than a measly billion dollars as they don't understand the advertising model of the future: ie, they get free advertising. The other networks have figured this out and have joined the party. I place my bet on You Tube.

These are good points and I agree (slightly) that politics and entertainment feel exclusionary, but there are ways to work your way into the fray. Politcs is politics (no where near the exceptional area in Slashdot) and Entertainment, I'd only expect what is going on in that area, and again, you can get a foothold if you so choose. What I really like about Local though, is that finding my town "empty" of posts, it leaves it wide open for the beginning of something. This is an apparatus, being road tested, and the tires need to be kicked among other things. Don't cha think?
