Thats the most reasonable thing I've heard in this thread yet. Rather than bashing either side and pointless name calling, you've pointed out that when the government is too busy fighting themselves, they spend less time messing in our lives. While there are certain things that only a government can accomplish, there are a great number of things better done by private citizens, and it seems that deadlock within government is the only way to allow that to happen.
Thank you for this brief moment of sanity.
If I were suddenly to come along and say "All Americans Suck because America only cares about oil for their fat SUV's", then undoubtedly, there will be retribution from those Americans who, in fact, care about other things.
Why is it Scientology is not allowed to defend itself from those who would degrade it?....
You've nullified your argument. If somebody makes some sweeping generalization about Americans and how much they suck, it's easy to show them wrong because America is a free and open society. The things American's are passionate about are well documented and easialy available to the general public. Scientology hides its beliefs and ideas. As said before, who the hell copyrights a religion?? If you want to be accepted and understood, show people exactly what your about unconditionaly. If anyone doubts Christianity, they can pick up a Bible and learn form themselves. They can digest it and learn about that religion on their own terms, free from anoyone's desires to convert them or indoctrinate them. Wanna learn about scientology on your own terms? Good luck.
Did this person not notice how freaking small the file they downloaed was??? MS office comes on two CDs, and although they're not full, that ammounts to about a gigabyte of data.
As pointed out by so many before you who RTFA... This is NOT a system against ICBMS, but against short range, small missiles. Probably not effective at all at a range better than 50 miles, but since we're talking about missiles that can't GO more than 50 miles, thats ok. As for hitting people / trees / buildings, you generally wont hit them because a missile will be comming in from above the horizontal. Depolying a system like this inside a city is foolish: by the time the laser intercepets the misile, it's already over the population center, so knocking it down is going to do damage anyway. As far as hitting orbiting things, you've got to realize that stuff in orbit is fastly spread out compared to stuff on the ground. Odds of randomly firing a laser from the ground and hitting something in space are about as good as trying to pick off a fly on the wall with a very small rock from the other side of the room. Even if this laser did "hit" a satelite, it would be so diffuse by the time it got there that there would be virtualy no damage.
How often do we see microsoft listen to what users want rather than TELLING them what "features" they want? I don't know anybody who WANTED clippy, but thats what we got.
At these kind of prices, what are the odds that some lunatic or terrorist gets one and decided to bore under some large buildings? I know the odds of that going undetected are really low, but weirder things have happened.
Thats an incredibly negative attitude to have. Isn't the possibility of finding liquid water and possibly life outside of that on our own planet worth a little investigation? What makes you so sure this "radioatcive heater" will break open anyway? You've set yourself up for attacks by opening the whole article summary with "After contaminating Earth's oceans..." You make it sound like the people who want to explore and learn are just looking for an interplanetary trash dump.
I'll seccond that. I'm in a college dorm, and as the local computer guru, I get called upon all the time to fix "broken" machines and install hardware (hey, easy money). I ran into one computer that someone inherited from a friend who recently graduated. The power supply was on the blink and the machine would only turn on "when it wanted to." Opening the case showed the horrible truth: All the once PCB green cards and motherboard were covered in gray fur. There was a good five years of dorm room dust coating every surface, not to mention several moths I pulled from behind the bezel. I had to take the whole think outside with an air duster to get anywhere near the power supply. I didnt actually open the PS once I had it out, but the cloud of dust that arrose when I dropped it in the dumpster told me all I needed to know.
This highlights the WORST part of expensive university textbooks: The so-called buyback. They buy you book at an insultingly low price, and then sell it for 70% of the cost of a new book. Thats if there hasn't been an "edition change" or your book came with a coaster^H^H^H^H^H^H^H CD-ROM. People on my campus have started posting signs at the end of each semester advertising their books for sale at lower than used prices, and are able to get much better money than the buy-back guys give out.

STEALTH Blue Screen of Death. Sounds so much happier now.

Do people just not delete these crap mp3 files? Or are most folks on p2p too busy finding a real copy of the song to bother?
$$$ to build P4 driven space heater >> all money you and I will ever see
So donating 699 of these bushes or shrubs to SCO would be 'hedging your bets'?

Speaking of whom, they're at it again....
RIAA sues 477

It might have worked... then you linked it on slashdot. ;)
It's so easy to just type 'pr0n', but that can get you things you may or may not want. Draw what you're after, and no one will misunderstand.
Where's the (-1: Instigator) mod when you really need it?

Moral of the story? Keep it clean!

Hey! Size doesn't matter!
