    I use xls on both Excel and Open Office and they are mostly compatable. If you are one of those accounting types with 100000 lines in an excel file then you you should stick with excel.

    Open Office is a replacement for M$ office for 95% of the use cases. Still the proprietary formats of M$ Office made it difficult to port. Since those standards are now published I think cross program support will improve.

    They would write it to /home/user/.appfolder

    Problem solved. Actually the problem never existed in linux, no registry and ONLY SYSTEM config files are written outside of home directories.

    I just copied my firefox settings from my desktop to laptop in Linux took 2 minutes. All my bookmarks and plugins work. It was amazing. Makes backups easier to.

    VMWARE server SUX, the new web interface is horrible, I thought VMWARE was the best (may still be for enterprise) but I use VirtualBox in Ubuntu and love it. Think it is better for on the desktop use.

    No matter how careful and no scripts you can still get infected quite easily. How long does it take an uprotected windows PC to get infected once it's plugged in?

    HE DOES NOT WANT IT TO WORK! He finds any reason on how windows is better. Adding the Open office 3.0 repos in Ubuntu took about 1 minute of searching the internet, 1 minute to add it and 5 minutes of downloading. He wants it to just fail, and doesn't bother to learn it.

    I was a windows fan boy for years, been free for 4 months now and loving it. Converted (saved) 3 people too, once they learn the tiny changes they love it, and it is way easier for the COMMON user than windows. Heck it comes with most software you need right out the box, sorry it didn't work with his dual workgroup/domain windows setup he had at his house, but really how many people have that. NO ONE should have that wacky of a setup either.

    That is the first mistake, Netflix should embrace better standards. They are using MS SQL server, if MS can make a case, see how it works so awesome with Netflix and see how it is protected(DRMed) lots of other content providers will pay them for it.

    Agreed it is doable, but it is unlikely unless the person targets the user. It is different for GNOME versus KDE.

    It is the equivalent of downloading a Picture.jpg.bat that deletes *.* from windows. Windows hides the extension (.bat) so it would be easy to double click on it and bam no more files. Yes the icon would look different.

    I have previews turned on in Gnome so I can actually see the picture before I run the code.

    RTFA it was tested agains Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04. In both x32 and x64 flavors.

    "Ubuntu 9.04 we used the daily build from January 22nd."
