I use xls on both Excel and Open Office and they are mostly compatable. If you are one of those accounting types with 100000 lines in an excel file then you you should stick with excel.
Open Office is a replacement for M$ office for 95% of the use cases. Still the proprietary formats of M$ Office made it difficult to port. Since those standards are now published I think cross program support will improve.
Problem solved. Actually the problem never existed in linux, no registry and ONLY SYSTEM config files are written outside of home directories.
I just copied my firefox settings from my desktop to laptop in Linux took 2 minutes. All my bookmarks and plugins work. It was amazing. Makes backups easier to.
VMWARE server SUX, the new web interface is horrible, I thought VMWARE was the best (may still be for enterprise) but I use VirtualBox in Ubuntu and love it. Think it is better for on the desktop use.
No matter how careful and no scripts you can still get infected quite easily. How long does it take an uprotected windows PC to get infected once it's plugged in?
You can also enable additional repositories with ubuntutweak - http://ubuntu-tweak.com/ just need to add it to your repositores. Incudes both Open Office and Firefox beta.
HE DOES NOT WANT IT TO WORK! He finds any reason on how windows is better. Adding the Open office 3.0 repos in Ubuntu took about 1 minute of searching the internet, 1 minute to add it and 5 minutes of downloading. He wants it to just fail, and doesn't bother to learn it.
I was a windows fan boy for years, been free for 4 months now and loving it. Converted (saved) 3 people too, once they learn the tiny changes they love it, and it is way easier for the COMMON user than windows. Heck it comes with most software you need right out the box, sorry it didn't work with his dual workgroup/domain windows setup he had at his house, but really how many people have that. NO ONE should have that wacky of a setup either.
That is the first mistake, Netflix should embrace better standards. They are using MS SQL server, if MS can make a case, see how it works so awesome with Netflix and see how it is protected(DRMed) lots of other content providers will pay them for it.
It is the equivalent of downloading a Picture.jpg.bat that deletes *.* from windows. Windows hides the extension (.bat) so it would be easy to double click on it and bam no more files. Yes the icon would look different.
I have previews turned on in Gnome so I can actually see the picture before I run the code.
Show them the costs of 'securing' windows versus Linux and Open source. Once the see the savings, perceived security of MS is less important. Money talk BS walks.

Running Ubuntu on my HP/Compaq 8710 laptop with no issues.
They would write it to /home/user/.appfolder

Learned this one the hard way, do a google image search for "penny" with safe search turned off.
Some colleges (Washington State University for example) offer MSDN copies of OSes.

Negative, Been using blackboard in Ubuntu and firefox for nearly a year
A lot of online only colleges use a custom made POS,

Let me reply:
1. Power point! nuff said
2. Outlook and tasks - see point 1 --I am sure there is a task program that will meet your needs.
3. Windows Mobile - again see point 1
Another excuse why windows is better than linux, you mentioned 3 Microsoft products, you don't want to leave.

Technically you are still walking the same direction. They just got you so turned around you don't know where you are going.
or Linux
Should be modded insightful. It was like reading a movie review that didn't rate the movie.
Virtual Box rocks, cross platform and I swear it is faster running Windows on my home box versus the ESX server I run stuff on at work.

Ubuntu makes a nice EEE distro.
But since you like Vista there may be nothing we can do.
They are killing all competition so their box will be the only way to watch HULU on TV.
Agreed it is doable, but it is unlikely unless the person targets the user. It is different for GNOME versus KDE.

So if Bob won the majority in Iowa, but Cmdr Taco won the national majority all the electoral votes go to Taco.
It dilutes Iowa's voting power, kinda the whole reason the Constitution electoral college was set up.

RTFA it was tested agains Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04. In both x32 and x64 flavors.
"Ubuntu 9.04 we used the daily build from January 22nd."
