    I always just figured the speed was gained from not having to run virus software all the time.

    With virus software installed on Windows 7 ubuntu would kill it even more.

    How many of those IT people are not truly qualify to handle the positions they are in? While many IT people are extremely competent there are many, many who are not. Seen some IT people spends hours and hours trying to get something to work, the competent Joe IT fixes it in five minutes.

    You can also hard set the local DNS on the laptop to go through, but it won't have the filtering.

    I use http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ for my son's laptop and it does a good job of filtering.

    Unfortunately there are many types of non-protected speech. Advertising, Libel, Obscenity, etc.

    I don't think that is an issue with Buffalo but AD. I have had numerous issues integrating things into AD especially windows AD.

    Interesting...Read up on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_reprocessing

    It is still radioactive for about 40 years and finally reaches natural level only after several thousands years.

    The good news is we can use the reprocessed uranium in nuclear weapons.

    Still not sold on nuclear as a long term solution, but I do believe it can feel an semi-immediate need.

    Storing that nuclear waste for the next million years is the problem. Who wants that stored in their backyard?

    Technically that is not a crash of the system. While all the system resources are in use, you can kill Firefox and the system will return to normal. I have also seen poor javascript bring system to crawls, but the system stayed up. Virus software probably would not catch a scenario like this.

    Luckily all viruses are free. But I agree. If I am going to have to pay the virus-tax I might as well do it on windows were I can get AVG and Avast for free. Luckily I run Linux on my main PC so I am 'completely' safe. I backup all my files that I can't stand to lose (pictures, Docs, home movies) off to a web host.

    The PTA in this area spends a lot of time fund raising for technology. Being a little tech hub doesn't hurt either.

    Having wireless door/window sensors, but hardwiring the motion sensors and panel would probably give you the best mix of security. A 95+ lb Akita doesn't hurt either. The options in the article are really geared for the non-tech type of people. I was expecting something much cooler, than what I have already seen.

    Been using it fo over a year and it is great. http://areca.sourceforge.net/ Encypts, does incremental and ftp to my personal site, can't beat it. Even did a restore once from it very smooth. Has everything you could ever want.

    He called the cops, and the cop had to file a report. On the report he needs information of the person calling the cops, ie address anme, etc. In order to save time he asked for some ID, and he did not comply. If he did not call the cops, I would have to agree 100%. We are only getting one side of the story and honestly it is over rated. This is example of civil rights violation is so stupid compared to real violations.
