I don't know how many times I had to get something to work because we already paid for it even though it was not what we needed and the perception of how can anything that is 'free' be as good as this expensive software. Open Source may not replace all professional level stuff, but 90% of the time it is perfect for casual users.

I use open source almost exclusively, on Windows, Mac and Ubuntu. I hardly get any crashes that so many of you speak about. Perhaps the OS has become unstable (speaking of Windows). In the past year I had to reinstall Vista twice on my work PC, because of crashes and blue screens. But my home Ubuntu has never had an issue that required a reinstall.

The cool visuals wear off after about 2 days, and the long load times, random hangs start to become more noticeable. While Ubuntu is not perfect, it is free. And the cost to upgrade my wife's mac to Snow Leopard was a reasonable $29 versus the nearly $200 for windows.

Confused, Windows 7 is the best user experience but you are still going to buy a macbook? I have seen the commercials you can get a comparable PC for half the price of a mac. I think your real point is Windows 7 is better, but still not as good.

I have used windows 7 and it is much better than Vista, but still not as good as my Ubuntu install. The Gui is cool, but still have to have a ton of programs I don't want running (virus software being the number 1). I just want a PC to work, Ubuntu is real close to competing with M$, another release or 2 they should be caught up. I am sure the Compiz guys are already mimicking some of the windows 7 stuff.

Easy to get a birth certificate I just had to do it last week. Went online found the county I was born in, they had a nice web form to fill out. Once completed I had to sign an affidavit and get it notarized then fax it to them. Received it 3 days later. The only real issue would be is creating a fake notary stamp image, but really that should take about 5 minutes, I have a scanner and GIMP. Once you know someones SSN it would be fairly easy to build up the documents to create a fake ID. Granted here in Oregon we have some fancy face imagery detection on our licenses, but I doubt it is super effective.
