In a Corporatocricy such as the US, committing a crime against a corporation is like committing a crime against the King in a monarchy. We are just seeing the start of this. In the eyes of our corporate overlords and their bought and paid for legislators and judges, this was a fitting punishment.
It pains me to say anything good about US customs, but...
US customs operates at the Toronto Airport (maybe a couple of others too?). That way flights from Toronto can go to directly to US cities without US customs facilities.
MS's effort to emulate the iWalledGarden has been a partial success. They have a more impervious wall than Apple does. Too bad MS can't grow anything useful inside their wall.
Win 8 is like a car that has technically better performance in ways that the average driver will never notice. It is also uglier than sin and the starter, steering and brakes have all been changed and moved around to places the driver won't except them to be.
So, don't use the "Metro" stuff. It's really, really easy not to... just run in the desktop! You know, like you have been doing for years.
It's amazingly easy, just stick with 7 and you don't even have to turn Metro off. For the desktop and serious laptop, 8 is a solution in search of a problem.
That settles it, if I were 3 years old I would switch to Windows 8. But I'm not a 3 year old and I won't. I might switch from 7 to 9 if MS comes to their senses between now and 9.
"One of the truly bad effects of religion is that it teaches us that it is a virtue to be satisfied with not understanding."
Religion is a system that takes advantage of people not being satisfied with not understanding. It scratches that itch by giving its adherents a false understanding of the world.
No one in the real world can understand everything, so to not be comfortable accepting not understanding a good share of reality is folly.
My vitriol would be worse if it came from MSNBC or CNN, I expect better of them.
That said, shit happens. Shep tried to do the right thing by having the scene cut and it didn't work. When you spend as much time on air as he does, something is bound to go wrong occasionally.

We're considering him for a president. I'd rather debate on his policy, record, etc. And I'm not claiming to agree with all of it or think highly of him on these merits, but this is the domain we need to be in, not the "batshit crazy."...
Romney is the candidate for everyone. No matter what your position is on anything, he has held that position at one time or another..
Because users actually prefer MS Office and are willing to pay for using it?
Microsoft is about to find out just how willing users are to pay for it every year.
An acquaintance said MS is incompetently evil while Apple is competently evil. If MS goes with this model, that will be further evidence that my acquaintance is correct about MS.
I prefer Libre Office but also have Office 2010 because $100 was a decent price to buy it for and on rare occasion it is useful. Lease it for $100/year? No fricking way

Officially, we're not cattle. So when did making a buck off me start to take precedence over everything in the Bill of Rights?
It has always been that way, it's just that it's getting a lot more blatant lately.
I find it hard to believe that the management of HP failed to uncover fraud of this magnitude during their evaluation in the purchase of Autonomy.
I don't find it hard to believe at all.
When I hear crap like that I am reminded that "If fleas could talk, they would tell you how they benefit dogs."
Like most Apple iproducts the ibox it came in looks OK. When are they going to take the iyacht out of the box?

Apple already has that patented. The iHorse Launcher.
I'm a little skeptic too, but they don't need an intelligent crowd, they only need a crowd with the right intelligent person in the crowd.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Yes, I have known many Mormans that are good honorable people. Their religion is still based on a scam though.

You Yanks fear the word "socialist" so much you spend far more to get rid of it!
You Wanks assume Yanks are all the same. That is not a valid assumption.

Why is it that charter schools get better results with fewer resources?
On average charter schools don't do better than regular public schools when the data considers similar groups of students ion both schools.
Data is not the plural of anecdote.
50 caliber machine gun. A 12.7mm machine gun would also do the job.
The software you need to use is the real reason you use a computer, not because you want to use an OS.
I see you haven't met many Apple Fanbois.
I have a GS2 and will not consider an Apple product when the contract expires. This is not because they make rubbish. .....

I had a Canon BJ-200 and the only thing good about it was that it had BJ in it's name. Paper jammed, printing was unreliable and messy.
