    In a Corporatocricy such as the US, committing a crime against a corporation is like committing a crime against the King in a monarchy. We are just seeing the start of this. In the eyes of our corporate overlords and their bought and paid for legislators and judges, this was a fitting punishment.

    It pains me to say anything good about US customs, but ...

    US customs operates at the Toronto Airport (maybe a couple of others too?). That way flights from Toronto can go to directly to US cities without US customs facilities.

    Win 8 is like a car that has technically better performance in ways that the average driver will never notice. It is also uglier than sin and the starter, steering and brakes have all been changed and moved around to places the driver won't except them to be.

    So, don't use the "Metro" stuff. It's really, really easy not to... just run in the desktop! You know, like you have been doing for years.

    It's amazingly easy, just stick with 7 and you don't even have to turn Metro off. For the desktop and serious laptop, 8 is a solution in search of a problem.

    That settles it, if I were 3 years old I would switch to Windows 8. But I'm not a 3 year old and I won't. I might switch from 7 to 9 if MS comes to their senses between now and 9.

    Religion is a system that takes advantage of people not being satisfied with not understanding. It scratches that itch by giving its adherents a false understanding of the world.

    No one in the real world can understand everything, so to not be comfortable accepting not understanding a good share of reality is folly.

    My vitriol would be worse if it came from MSNBC or CNN, I expect better of them. That said, shit happens. Shep tried to do the right thing by having the scene cut and it didn't work. When you spend as much time on air as he does, something is bound to go wrong occasionally.

    Microsoft is about to find out just how willing users are to pay for it every year.

    An acquaintance said MS is incompetently evil while Apple is competently evil. If MS goes with this model, that will be further evidence that my acquaintance is correct about MS.

    I prefer Libre Office but also have Office 2010 because $100 was a decent price to buy it for and on rare occasion it is useful. Lease it for $100/year? No fricking way

    On average charter schools don't do better than regular public schools when the data considers similar groups of students ion both schools.

    I had a Canon BJ-200 and the only thing good about it was that it had BJ in it's name. Paper jammed, printing was unreliable and messy.
