It could be done in a more efficient way however. The first few bytes could tell you if there's something new (a number that increment each time something change) and you would only fetch the whole file if there's something new.
can you patent something that IS ALREADY PRESENT IN THE LANGUAGE. it would be differnet if it was not present in the language.
Well... At least the rules are saying that you can't patent something that is obvious...
They were not. Windows is a dictionary word and should have no right to be trademarked. "Microsoft Windows" is another matter.
The lawsuit was based on "people can confuse the two". Windows is known enough to not be confused with Lindows and Lindows publicity bashed Microsoft products more than they promoted their own.
I dislike both companies and both products but on that one, Lindows was right.
For Mike Rowe Soft, it was hard to confused to and it was really his name.
I know this is a joke, but it plays right in the hands of the religious people I meet who think atheism is a fancy word for "satan-worship." Their little theistic worldview can't handle the fact that millions don't buy modern day fairy tales about good and evil and creator gods, etc.
If there's "evil" in the world its in the form of the anti-reason, pro-faith groups that dominate the world, especially the US.
Indeed. An atheist can't really think that God is evil because he don't exist. It's like saying that Bigfoot is evil, it makes no sense. You can think however that the concept is evil.
I personally don't think that there is "evil" in the world because I don't think people decide to do stuff just to be evil. They can be selfish, like moral but they don't try to do things because it is the evil thing to do.
They already answered to that. They said that they meant that your e-mail still exist on their system until it is out of the backup roll. Same policy as anywhere.
They even answered all other tinfoil hats concerns at this webpage :
http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/more.html
They don't have more e-mail address than say hotmail and the best way to map relationships is to check who you are e-mailing often. Since they str giving a lot of invites you give them to anyone, even if you don't know them. So, the invite system is far from being the best way to make those maps.
So, I agree with you : All email companies have a lot of power to do evil if they wished but Google don't have more powers than the others.
They don't have to. Most people use web-based e-mail and don't want to use an e-mail client at all. And gmail interface is quite nice so they have little incensitives to switch.
But if *you*, prefer using an e-mail clients, you can. This way, you continue to use gmail and influence your friends, especially the ones that don't have much knowledge about computers to use gmail. Else, you would suggest them whatever you are using that supports pop (Yahoo for instance).
Worked for my sister too and she is a typical non-technical user. Of course, she didn't installed it by herself and still have very little knowledge of what the system do (same level she had with Windows anyway) but she managed to do everything she was already doing with Windows.
I switched her since I was tired of reinstalling her Windows system which she always found ways to break. So far, her Linux box works flawlessly.
The basis for treating corporation as persons is that it makes thing a lot easier. It is easy to find the "legal person" that is the corporation but hard to find the "collective noun".
It's the exact same thing in Canada and I guess in most countries.
I love hoaxes like this -- good, old-fashioned greed dressed up to look like altruism!
February 1998 saw the following e-mail show up in many an inbox:
Just a quick note to tell you about a program that Nike started to help make fields and playgrounds for the underprivileged from old tennis shoes.
All YOU have to do is send in your old tennis shoes (NO MATTER WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE) with a piece of paper that has your name and address on it, and Nike will send you a brand new pair back FREE OF COST!!!
The tennis shoes you send DO NOT have to be Nike. Just as long as they are tennis shoes. It really is a worthwhile project, and it's helping a lot of young kids. Here is the address:
Nike Recycling Center

They don't take "old" shoes, only those under the warranty. They don't take shoes from other vendors and they don't recycle them.
But like all urban legends, it started with a bit of truth : Nike have a too permissive warranty policy.
The comment I replied to made no mention of any failed expectations of the shoes in question but rather, was seeking a replacement because the warranty was about to expire.
The shoes were broken but as you normally expect shoes that were worn by a kid. According to Nike's warranty, this is covered.
They have a very permissive warranty that is automatically renewed every time you use it and they don't discuss, they only ask you to send back the old ones.
If you give shoes to a kid, they obviously end up broken before a year (or at least a bit cracked). Especially if they play a lot of sport and like going in the wood.
He is teaching economy in Quebec.
And I was just saying that a perpetual warranty can exist with a real life exemple of it.
Not only that but corporate usage of the net increased and it's a bad idea to surf for pr0n at work. If we check home users and count P2P as you mention, I'm pretty sure it didn't droped at all.
I guess that some of these thing can be set in the existing applications. Or maybe a fork of an existing one could fill the need.
In any case, the question was : Is a new project started from scratch really necessary.
It could be done in a more efficient way however. The first few bytes could tell you if there's something new (a number that increment each time something change) and you would only fetch the whole file if there's something new.

Before you mod me down for that, I'd like to mention that this isn't Microsoft bashing since I am an atheist too and so are Linus and RMS.
There is a "delete forever" option when the mail is in the trash or marked as spam. They also delete trashed messages older than 30 days.

You already can, they call that labels.
In Canada, we have the results on TV before the elections are over (when the losing side can't fill the gap anymore).
We also get the official results really quickly after the election is over but the one they told on TV earlier are always good.
This is mainly thanks to the fact that we have the same standardized way of voting all accross Canada and can put the results together quickly.

In fact, it does works. A teacher I had was always returning the shoes of all his sons to Nikes just before the warranty expired to get new ones.
They even accept to send you one size bigger if you ask (because kid feet grow).
It works since sevaral years for him.

According to the FAQ, it is planned. And it *should* be compatible with Red Hat kickstart if possible.
What is so different about AIDS in Africa that would need a brand new project ?
