It's the same as what you get with an undergraduate degree. You're levelling the playing field with those who have it, and having a small advantage over those who don't.
All things equal, an employer will always select a candidate with more "glitter" than one without. Let's say Bill and Bob are both equally qualified. Same number of years of experience, same skillsets. The only real difference is that Bill took the time to get some certifications. Employer ABC is evaluating both of them for a single position. I would say that 9 out of 10 times, purely based upon this fact, Bill will get the job.
The bottom line is that if you have the time and money to get certs, go for it. At the very least it will level the playing field for you.
Of course they do. IE is by far the most used browser in the world. It is, after all, included with the most used OS's in the world. Those who know their stuff don't use a lot of Microsoft products, but a lot of people aren't in the know.
It's great to see such an eminent scientist willingly admit that he was wrong, or at least only partially right. It seems that all too often the path that people and organizations choose is to deny, spin, and turn things on their heads to avoid embarassment. Hawking showed he is a good sport, proving not only does he have a brilliant mind, he is a classy person as well.
Very good point. Let's hope that their infrastructure is robust enough to handle the swarms of consumers and businesses who are going to sign up for this. It would be a shame for this venture to fail because they didn't think things through. Best of luck to them though, I for one will sign up!

According to the law, you ARE a criminal. Don't confuse law with morality, or right and wrong. While laws were put in place generally to uphold morality and define right and wrong, they are not necessarily one and the same.
This is how capitalism works. Prices are set by the marketplace, at the limit the market will bear. Unfortunately, this leads to corporate greed, as is quite evident in this and many, many other cases.
Falklands Island war between the UK and Argentina - the Sheffield was sunk by an Exocet SSM whose explosive payload did not detonate. The damage (and subsequent sinking) was caused by the rocket fuel.
I for one am glad that this never happened. Look at it this way - spammers are (almost by definition) unscrupulous, and will almost certainly not hesitate to abuse the system. "Hey Mr Govt man, give me the list, I promise not to email each and every one of these people several times a day!!" It simply would not have worked.
...how sorry he would have felt if he hadn't been caught and sued. More than likely he'd still be hijacking people's computers and spamming away. Money has a way of compromising people.
way to read too much into a simple statement. does that make you feel good? i hope so.
i should i have clarified for the peanuts gallery that "they" are monopolistic organizations that conspire to limit choice, forcing people to use their overpriced (and in this case, unstable) products. does that make you feel better? better grab a kleenex and wipe that snot out of your nose.
It doesn't matter what the motivation is. They could have switched from Microsoft because little green men from Mars made them. The bottom line is, the sooner we can de-indoctrinate (is that a word?) people from Microsoft products, and in greater amounts, the sooner they will go away.
This is really going to hurt SCO, really going to put a large dent in their legal warchest. Let's say SCO does run out of money and they are forced to drop their suits...what happens when someone else purchases their "patents" and starts the whole thing over again (hi, Microsoft)? I'd almost rather SCO see this to the end, as it appears that they have a penchant for shooting themselves in the foot.
Here's what I have always wondered - why do merchants say the 1st amendment protect intrusive advertising? Seems to me that if someone doesn't want to hear it, they shouldn't be forced to. Faxers, spammers, all try to hind behind the constitution. I thought the First Amendment only protects free speech, it does not guarantee an audience. Also, it really isn't free speech if it costs people something is it (bandwidth, etc)?
Most spammers arent terribly sophisticated. Let's face it though, a handful are extremely smart and capable, otherwise we'd have gotten rid of them a long time ago.

If there's a chance your child needs those stem cells someday, any chance at all - is your child's life worth it? (This is a rhetorical question.)
I hereby nominate the name "Brokebackdot."
Please include the address and name of the hiring manager, thanks!

Piss-poor attempt at humor. Someone should break YOUR kneecaps for that statement.
Well, at least you've still got that alternate reality you live in. ;)
