CORBA doesn't even FIT into this article, and it is painfully clear when you read it. If this wasn't a free object model, I would say the autor is stretching to sell something, but since that can't be the case, then what is it?
Ignorance like yours is scary my friend. Just because a single vial of life saving syrum ends up being contaminated, doesnt mean one should eliminate the factory, or even "restrict" its obtainanility.
Because you REALLY DONT know why these kids snapped. You just know that they got some good ideas from a video game... and believe me, had so called video game not thrown some ideas their way, they would have either come up with something equally creative on their own, or borrowed from another source.
Video games dont kill people... they just give the psyco's more crative ways of doing it.
With the advent of bootable CDs, everyone cried "Throw away the floppy, you dont need it for anything!", that is until they came across their mothers busted 10 year old packard bell. Now you propose to do the same thing to cds with the promise of a usb key. Seeing that your computer not only needs to support USB AND be able to boot from USB. The range of computers you can do this is MUCH less then that which can boot from a cdrom which is MUCH LESS then the computers that can boot from floppies.
.. but I did a report on this book back in the second grade. That was something like 18 years ago, and the book wasnt shiney new then either. I guess Im unclear about what the limits are of a book you can review.
Virtual PC is a full blown x86 machine emulator. VMWare is MOSTLY a virtualizer... meaning it passes most calls directly to the hardware... which also means it will only work on x86 hardware.
This could easily be sniffed detected by malicious parties, as well as exploited pretty easily. The only way I would feel secure with this is if the pending port connection checked the IP of the incoming connection, at which point, the knocking becomes pointless
This could be a little off topic, but I don't really think so.
Granted, this spyware crap is nasty, but lets look ahead to an optimistic future, where windows no longer sports.NET as a wrapper around the Win32 API, but rather the Win32 API emulation layer is built on top of.NET. Then, all of this will disappear. You could set a default that any random app, not explicitly OK'd by the Admin wouldnt even be able to make a network connection.
Ok, while I HATE the fact that my cable is capped, and now I have some invisible limit to my cable modem, there isn't a court in the land that will side with me, blatently breaking a few laws, and ignoring the TOS that was agreed to.
Im just going to sit back for a while and hope something good comes of this... maybe cable providers will find that fighting with these people isnt worth the hassle.
It seems to me that as time goes on, the JVM specification adds functionality that can possibly exclude it from being ported to other platforms. With this new release, the whole "Shared memory between JVMs".. I am pretty sure there are some not-so-advanced or alternate-goal OS's that doesn't support these kind of things.
Sure, maybe the blame can be put on the author of the OS, but I know that the "write once, run anywhere" vision is starting to slip.
Maybe it is just me, but I don't understand the point of abandoning a space project and crashing it into the earth. Why not push it out to space a little more... to somewhat a safe distance, and GIVE it to someone, like a school, or something. Im sure SOMEONE can put things like this, or a SPACE STATION to good use. Maybe if it isnt even in the immediate future, I think there is plenty of empty space out there, that we can even park them anywhere. Even if that is orbiting the moon... and if it gets destroyed, there will be no issue
I know out of the 3 games I got, NONE of them can be considered "geared toward kids", and one of them is questionable if it should even be sold to minors. I know *I* didnt buy the only games out there like this. See:
Zelda Game Pak
Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Many moons ago (at least a couple of years I think) on the discovery channel, or similar. But they were showing it off as an abstract artist. I think the idea behind that is any monkey can construct a robot to "trace" a digital image. It would just be an oversized printer.
Actually, it does, but Nintendo chose to sell these games back to you, rather then having a "generic emulator". This is why you see things like the Zelda game pak on the gamecube.
If they found some interesting finds, they left them out of the article. They found exactally what you would think they would find... cameras pointed at places in offices... not the hot lesbian orgy that you would hope for.
Besides, isnt this a dupe?
THe idea of lego's is simple. Even building large, cool things, is easy on paper. I have to give it to these guys... after my "object" grows above about 1' in size, I have to use elmers glue to keep it from crumbling on me.
Not suprised one bit. Both Debian and Gentoo are the only two usable UP TO DATE distro's that will run on a sparcstation. They obviously care to encompass EVERYONE who might use their OS, and gladly, Ill join that line.
I can tell you something about some of those sega handhelds that made it on there....
Firstly, I never even knew the Nomad existed until well after its death. I didnt exactally live under a rock either. I know I would have saved my pennies for this, vs something like a gameboy.
Then we have the Game Gear. This one was more out in the open, but the true treasure of it was NEVER known by many people... that you could buy a $10 adapter and play your old Sega Master System games! Had my friends and I known this much earlier in its life, we ALL would have owned one.
Sega made good stuff. They just didnt know how to sell it.
But it seems that the page with the article crashes the new firefox .8
With 3 seconds of investigation it apears to have something to do with a Realplayer add.
I must test this elsewhere...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THE HUMANITY! Perfectly good PCs being thrown out...
I would disown family members for that

Manwhore.

You missed my real point... applications wont likely have "Hidden Features", if they cant run by default.
This could be a little off topic, but I don't really think so.

Just dreaming I guess

Here is what you would think of when you hear "Java Operating System"
JNode
As much as will all hate (or love) to admit it, the most successful use of such a divice, I predict, will be interactive porn

Yep. You come from the clueless club.

Or pull a Tyler Durden

What I find funny is that this story has more comments (2/5) the original (2/3)
