  1. Awesome idea! on Mandatory Automotive Black Boxes May Be On the Way · · Score: 0

This is government at its absolute best. Coming up with an idea that will foment an entirely new and useless bureaucracy we can all fund.

Obviously, this person has never actually worked in a corporation before. We get excellent support from both Dell and Microsoft. Can't speak to Symantec. If a piece of Dell hardware requires replacement, a simple email to them results in the replacement part arriving the next day via Fedex. If a Mac has a problem, the answer is "take it to your closest Apple Store".

I'm sure building all the dams to provide hydroelectric power and placing windmills in prominent windswept areas won't affect the Swiss at all. The alternatives are all far worse than nuclear power in terms of damaging the environment, not to mention the character of the Swiss landscape.

... I have no problem with allowing employees to use their personal devices at work. If the rest of the executive team wants excessive network downtime, no viable way to maintain data security and a compromised network, who am I to argue with them? This sounds like a great way to easily justify doubling my budget and staff too. What's not to like?

  5. Re:Isn't leaving things out fun? on Sergey Brin: Windows Is "Torturing Users" · · Score: 0

Amen. The idea that Windows is more difficult to manage than a Mac or especially Linux is laughable. And the tools you have for the management you might want to do are more limited and offer far fewer choices.

My Xoom is faster and has better integration with my work applications than the iPad2. Why would I want to dumb down the way I work to buy an iPad2? This is after all "The Big Leagues" and facts matter as opposed to believing advertising hype. From my perspective, for people that actually use their tablets for work related tasks, only someone who likes to work more slowly and inefficiently would purchase an iPad2.

  7. No problem! on Ask Slashdot: Do I Give IT a Login On Our Dept. Server? · · Score: 0

I see absolutely no problem with IT letting you do whatever you want on their network as long as you allow them practice medicine in your division if they feel like doing so.

  8. Re:Woo progress, not! on No U.S. Government Shutdown This Week · · Score: 0

Taking advice from bankrupt European nation inhabitants is a sure winner! Thanks for your help! The basic problem is too much government spending overall, including the military which is a significant, but not the most significant percentage of the budget. Too many people expecting something for nothing and hoping to punish the productive sector of the population to get it. Politicians will promise anything to get elected, even if it bankrupts the country. The Democrats' natural constituencies are people who pay little or no federal tax, contribute nothing to job creation or investment and collect the preponderance of government giveaways. Fiscal responsibility is simply against the Democrats' self interest if they want to be re-elected, the country be damned in the long run.

  11. HIPAA on First Ever HIPAA Fine Is $4.3M · · Score: 0

Anyone who complains about the high cost of healthcare and at the same time thinks HIPAA is a good idea doesn't know the slightest thing about healthcare. HIPAA compliance adds a tremendous bureaucratic burden on healthcare providers and is so effective that it has produced one successful lawsuit in 15 years. What a triumph. Billions wasted with no discernible benefit.

  12. Stupid Users on German Foreign Office Going Back To Windows · · Score: 0

This is purely a political decision, obviously. You should never underestimate the stupidity of users trying to get their work done. Users should just ignore the problems they experience and accept the fact that the Linux community knows better than they do what works best and costs least.

People who advocate the disclosure of information via Wikileaks under a pseudonym have no standing. They obviously have made a judgement that their own personal information is too private to disclose, but deny the same judgement to others. And yes, there is a significant amount of information that puts individuals at risk exposed in the Wikileaks data as opposed to general government policy.
