However It could be quite good for low graphics, turn based puzzle/strategy games. Think of Minesweeper, soliter, chess, etc. Could be another opportunity for small/indie developers (think of low cost 2$ games), and it can also leverage Linux gaming...If it has WiFi or bluetooth it could be a viable multiplayer platform too.

I recently wrote a raytracer in DirectX pixel shader 2.0 It traced only 6 point, but actually produce elevated texture , effect similar to dislacment mapping but all in texture unit, without any additional vertices and tesselations. Pity my bosses did't like it because of high aliasing....
Would be about the same if we are talking about graphics. There is no noticable difference in code size for DirectX and OpenGL with appropriate driver with all extensions. Both Nvidia and ATI are shipping OpenGL drivers with all extensions realized in hardware, giving OpenGL about the same functionality as Direct3D. But there is no sound in the OpenGL. Don't know what are standart sound library for Linux...
I'd also like to be able to sync it to my Palm Calender and Address book
Is there a market for such an application if priced around 15$ ? If there is, it will be written soon (may be even by me, but I would have to buy a plam). It may be even on sale already, check handango.com (disclamer - I'm not affiliated with handango in any way for now). If there is no at least couple of thousand people ready to pay for it no one will bother with writing it commertially, though somebody could write it for himself and release for free...
There are two ways Nokia could have pulled it off. They could have either hooked up with Nintendo and sold a phone that also played Gameboy Advance games. Thus they'd have a huge library of games, and both audiences are tailored two. Or if they really wanted to compete, they should have created a standalone console that wasn't tied to the cell phone.
Both not viable alternatives. Nokia pushing Symbian OS. Switch to another OS or make an emulator with limited CPU/memory for niche product is not practical. Standalone console is not what Nokia targeting. Nokia target middle segment between hardcore and casual, people who want have handheld gaming device, but don't want carry another box.Another point is communication. The idea was online gaming through GPRS/WAP. Those games never materialize, but that is another problem (prices still too high). Overall impression of this new NGage - it's more like patched original device , not new. It should be exchanged for old for free (or with huge rebate), or original owners would feel cheated. Trouly new device should have twice bigger screen, twice faster CPU (at least 200 mHz, for now this "gaming" device have 104 mHz vs 150+ mHz of SonyEricsson P800) and, most important - Symbian 8.x OS with hardware OpenGL ES. If NGage 2 will not reach those parameters it will be another falure.
DirectX is great for PC Games - but for real scientific/commercial work it *SUCKS*.
Not exactly. I know that at least in the simulation area DirectX pretty common in the commertial software under Windows. If app intended for windows only DirectX have some advantages (mostly managing texture memory). Thogh difference not so big. Don't forget that both OpenGL and DirectX not much more then the interface to the hardware 3D.
The very nature of quantum cryptography prevents it from working without a wire, or fiber, as the case may be. It is doubtful that wireless quantum cryptography will ever exist.
Laser/maser beam should work though. So wireless probably theoretically possible in the direct line of sight.

That's too narrow definition of chaotic system, because Lyaponov coeefficients and strange attractors realted only to dynamical systems wich have a toplogy - that is some underlying continuity. However there is another type of object which exhibit chaotic behavior, though only in infinite areas - discrete objects like cellular automata, which have no notion of divergence, and discussed more in term of complexity
This chatic computing idea is in fact related to cellular automata. Cellular automata is a perfect example simple, completly deterministic discrete system, which behavior very difficalt and sometimes impossible to predict

Interesting, that wireless communication was not adopted by military in WWI, but in WWII it made a critical difference. German blitzkriegs in France and Russia were possible because they embraced radio through the all chain of commands. Opposite, russian tanks (on average thechnically superior to germans) and fighters didn't have a radio in the first years of war and were massacred by german. Russians had to learn importance of the wireless communication by hard way. I don't belive in the "Internet Pearl Harbor" in the nearest decade.
