I'll stop supporting Nuclear power when all you whiny pricks turn off your electricity. It's great to see all the anti-nuke people come out to play when they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Greasing shutdown mechanisms? In PWR's the rods fall when they lose power. It's pretty hard to make them all stay without magnetic force holding them up. Aside from that there's boron, Aux feedwater, and many other systems designed to mitigate the worst case scenario (design basis accident). Even if they don't work, there's still a containment building. However I do happen to agree with you on the bean counter issue. That needs to stop. profit margins are good enough. there's no reason to save a nickel and compromise.

What is going on with this country. Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves. Last night I was stopped by police officers for literally nothing. They stopped everyone on the road for a "safety inspection". They were asking for license and insurance and registration, What that has to do with safety is beyond me. I'm expecting the phrase "papers please" to become more common. Something needs to be done.

Why not just run it through a huge radiator like setup that way the water is basically seperated from one huge volume to thousands of smaller volumes which can cool down much faster.

Look at the turkey point nuclear power plant in homestead fl on google maps using the satellite view. it's just west of the homestead/miami racetrack. 200 miles of canals that are 5 feet deep and 200 feet wide and anywhere from 27 to 36 miles long.

other places just use cooling towers.

The only reason we don't down-power is that it's cheaper for the nuclear side to run and have the fossil side down-power. They need cooling just as much.

Do you have ANY proof of that? That would be a violation of tech specs and as I recall that eastern brown out had nothing to do with a nuclear plant and everything to do with the way the grid was shabbily set up with bandaids.

even having someone without a license (nuclear not driving) cause a change in power by manipulating something like a valve is a violation. You can't just service something whenever you want. there are strict controls in place.

There are however systems connected to monitor certain things. They can in no way cause changes and yes even though i don't think it's such a good idea they are indirectly connected to the net. but remember that these systems can only monitor. They physically cannot cause changes
