"There have been several deaths from extremely hot water (over 110F) in a spa. High temperatures can cause drowsiness, which may lead to unconsciousness, resulting in drowning. Raised body temperature can also lead to heat stroke and death."(From here)

I think they're refering to the saying that if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it'll leap out, but if you put it in cold water then gradually heat it won't try to escape and you'll boil it. It's the standard /. analogy when anything that could conceivably lead to an Orwellian society appears in the news.

The process is actually more likely to work on a human than a frog, because the human body would do various things to try to cool down once things got a bit hot, whereas the frog could only regulate its temperature by getting out.

The Scientific Method will never produce a thoery or set of theories that are known to completely and perfectly describe all natural phenomena. Even if we appear to reach such a stage, there may be phenomena that we haven't yet observed. So we can only produce current best theories that may or may not be revised or replaced in the future in the light of new evidence. In this sense, science only produces "more adequate" theories.

For example, evolution is science's current best idea of how life came to exist as it does now, but if a significant body of evidence indicates another process took place then we might produce a new best idea.

The Northern Ireland Assembly may one day evolve into a stable government where conflicts are resolved in a civil manner. Opera had a small market share thoughout a period when the market size was growing rapidly (not just 'any time'). It failed to gain enough users who were new to the internet or convert massive numbers of current users. My question wasn't meant to be rhetorical; what has changed, either about Opera or the nature of the browser wars, that means it will make significant gains now? I agree a similar argument could be applied to firefox, but not the same one. Firefox wasn't around during the original browser wars so has no 'form' in that sense. Search for Firefox benefits and you'll find lots of reasons why firefox might beat IE. The fact it has a reputation as a possible IE-killer will aid it a lot.
