Yes, the sun is the one big Nuclear reactor source of cancer causing radiation that we can't control. All we can do to limit the damage it causes to our bodies through clothing and suncream. However that's not really an excuse to build local "suns" that can do alot more concentrated damage when the shit hits the fan.
That's like saying it's okay to smoke cigarettes or drive poluting cars because the eruption from a volcano can be equally damaging, nobody is buying it except the people who need to convince themselves (like people addicted to cigarettes or driving SUV's)
Donations to MIT are so passé. Why not pick a random fast talking black kid from the Cambridge streets and
give him that company CEO's job and house? Also, cancel all the previous CEO's credit cards and boot him out onto the street.
I bet the outcome of this experiment would surprise us all!
The Netherlands has battled with flooding ever since people started living here. We are probably the best prepared country in the world when it comes to flooding and Dutch experts are often used in other countries with flooding problems. Less than half of the Netherlands is actually below sea level and there are a lot of defenses against any type of flooding which seems to happen a lot less here than in the surrounding countries.
This may be moderated as flamebait, however this is exactly the attitude many people responding to the news of the Fukushima reactors on slashdot seem to have. How can you be so in love with nuclear that even when four reactors are in various states of melting down and leaking dangerous amounts of radiation into the environment that you find it necessary to attack any doubts on the supposed safety and environmental goodness of nuclear power?
Reminds me of Inspector Drebin standing infront of the exploding building in Naked Gun. "Nothing to see here people!"
The irresponsible thing the US has done is having official diplomatic cables with insulting gossip, evidence about espionage at the highest levels of the UN and dubious/illegal deals with companies and regimes. And the small fact of having all these documents available so it is likely one person could singlehandedly access and leak all of them causing a major diplomatic nightmare for many powerful political and business people and forces.
There's only so many jobs for people with degrees. I dropped out of a multimedia design course over ten years ago. Then got into various jobs and ended up doing advanced technical support at a big company after 5 years of working there. A friend who had not dropped out after the first year and completed the degree could not find any steady employement in the designer field and ironically ended up doing lower paid technical support work through an outsourcing partner of the same company.
In the past when less people went on to college a degree was more valuable and basically meant a well paid job for life, but the market has changed and many more people are getting degrees. It pays more to carefully consider your options, getting work experience may be better than years of study in many cases.
Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements... ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase.
Q: Why is everyone so obsessed about ninjas?
A: Ninjas are the ultimate paradox. On the one hand they don't give a crap, but on the other hand, ninjas are very careful and precise.
The whole thing sounds like somebody took the whole ultimate power thing a little too seriously.
Anything is true if it is said often enough. If there are another few accusations of sexual misconduct, nomatter how trivial or suspicious the charges, there are plenty of people that will start to suspect there must be some truth behind some of it.
Isn't it contradictory that on one hand you are defending the Swedish justice system, yet on the other admiring the way it is being abused? Unless you believe a good justice system should be easily abused like this of course.
It isn't in the Control Panel but it is customisable:

The common sense to ban firearms is what seems to be lacking in the USA.
Well, that does explain why they don't visit Slashdot.
Yes, but they only cancel the obvious failures. Some companies could learn something, although they may not have many products left.
I thought the whole point was to calculate the question to that answer?
Unintentional?
The main reason for the success for religions from day one is an effective PR department.
It's even worse than that. Apparently it is OK to use a condom, but only if you are a male prostitute...

Didn't they already try that in Trading Places?
You mean like this?

This new slashdot sure sucks, even the jokes are taken over by empty white space.
Isn't it obligato... I mean obvious?
1. Upload massive amounts of illegal content
2. ???
3. Profit
Have any of you noticed that every year they use a different set of reporting stations to "show" that it's the hottest year?
Yes, I have noticed a lot of "the hottest" and "the wettest" years recently, isn't that the whole point of all the fuss?
In the new analysis, the next warmest years are 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007, which are statistically tied for third warmest year.
The similarity being that both often don't cite their sources.

They used to be cannibals before they realised it wasn't sustainable. Now they are sending a message by only cannibalizing half the island.
What does that remind me of?

I have a hunch the other woman involved may be http://twitter.com/kristenvanster, they were both tweeting about inviting him to Sweden a week ago.

It correctly translates as arrested, if he isn't under arrest then the police can't detain him for questioning.
Indeed, Oil would have to rise quite a bit in price before you would ever consider tanking up on single malt.
Difference between Spielberg and Lucas: Spielberg can direct realistic personalities, Lucas can't.
