    Give Slackware a go, it's got all the standardized filesystem locations with non of the compile time and many fewer head-wall collisions.

    Yeah, it's beautiful the way texas has its grid totally seperate from the rest of the country's so they don't have to bow and scrape to FERC. They don't sell across state lines, so the feds can take a flying leap. Good to see someone taking a stand for states' rights in this day and age, especially since the idea became so loaded with racism.

    Yeah, since the culture encourages parents to make sure their one child has a penis there's become a pretty wide gap in the male/female population, considering the most likely people to get aids would be prostitutes and their customers it's a great way to restore the population balance.

    Star Trek: The Motion Picture is simply the worst movie of all time. Too many long, pointless effects shots, too much Michael Eisner thinking bald=sexy, not bad enough to have humor value like Plan 9 or Troy.

    They should work in any motherboard that'll take a regular athlon XP of the same bus speed, but they're worth more as a set.

    Well, the way WoW's servers are set up is kind of odd, each "shard" is actually three seperate pieces of hardware. There's one for Kalimdor, one for the Eastern Kingdoms, and one for all the instance dungeons. Battlegrounds will be run on the instance server. This is also why you have a load screen going into places like the stockade.... it's not so much to load the textures and geometry as to cover up the fact that you're jumping servers.

    Eh, just do it compaq-style with two super-geeks. One reverse engineers the existing driver and documents the spec, then the other writes drivers from that spec without ever being allowed to look at the original driver

    I've been wondering about the possiblity of putting together something like this on a super-miniaturized linux platform for quite a while. I'm envisioning something with a 2-3" screen, Compact Flash, SNES style control pad, TV-out, MAME, SNES, and NES emulators, and a usb port or two for a keyboard add-on. Any EE majors out there looking for a project to impress your advisor, please give this a thought. The biggest problem I've had in trying to spec out the parts is finding a source for the tiny LCD screens.

    Me too, and when people starting asking me about where I got them from (everyone I know gives me their old systems because I'm the "computer guy") I actually sold a few sticks and then branched out by getting a cheap heat gun and making clipboards out of old, desoldered motherboards

    It's also well worth the time to check out salvation army-style charity shops in your area. While a long shot, once in a while they'll be donated office equpment by small businesses looking for a tax break. In fact, I'm still recovering from getting this Deal of a lifetime 217,000 page HP Laserjet 5si with jet direct card into my toyota corrola for the ride home. Total cost: Ten US Dollars.
