    2) Then you admit that the necessary services that you claim would be supported entirely by charity would in fact be horrifyingly underfunded and destroyed if you had your 'druthers?

Great. Just wanted to make sure we were clear that in your compassionless world, no one gets a second chance, and if you don't have health insurance and get seriously ill, kiss your ass goodbye.

I can't do most modifications that I think would be fun, and still legally drive on the freeway, and I can't even put it up on blocks in most neighborhoods that I'd want to live in. ... what modifications do you want to do? Install a turbine?

What is your problem with "putting it up on blocks?"
    a) You would need to do this why?
    b) Who is going to stop you? If a neighborhood committee or something thinks it's an eyesore, well, there's a reason God made garages and backyards.

  6. Windows 2000 on Microsoft Squeezes Win2000 Users · · Score: 1

Win2K was the pinnacle of OS development for Microsoft, as far as I'm concerned. It combined the robustness of NT4 with the media and gaming capabilities of Windows 95 (and really, XP didn't do much to improve on these). It was simple, stable, and functional.

I only moved to XP because I couldn't get support for 2K anymore. There's really no reason to run XP beyond the fact that 2K is unsupported.

Yep, that's right. Or close enough to one for government work (ha).

Both Communism and your brand of extreme libertarianism count on the same thing that simply isn't fucking true: everyone is generous, everyone wants to work as hard as they can, everyone is just hunky-dory, so of course they will work as hard as they can! Of course they will give to charity!

    Wake up, Pollyanna.

  8. Wrong on Moglen on Social Justice and OSS · · Score: 1

"Everyone" doesn't "know" that about social justice. Social justice simply means that you have a safety net for people who fall through the cracks. It doesn't mean unlimited welfare. It doesn't mean 70% tax rates. It doesn't mean you don't have the "right to succeed" or any of that other retarded libertarian bullshit. It means you have a nation that takes care of its people. If someone makes poor choices, they should have the RIGHT to start again and try to make good choices.

Fuck off, you compassionless asshole. I hope someone robs you blind right after you lose your job.

  9. Karma to burn, so why not? on Moglen on Social Justice and OSS · · Score: 1

You are a fool. Social justice refers to conceptions of justice applied to an entire society. It is based on the idea of a just society, which gives individuals and groups fair treatment and a just share of the benefits of society.

  13. Nah on John Dvorak On Vista's Launch · · Score: 1

What else are you looking for? What can your "cheap candy bar Nokia" do that this can't?

The reason this will be outlawed by cell phone carriers is precisely because it can do anything... because it runs Linux. Anything that loosens their ironclad control over handsets is verboten.

Not on a Sidekick, that's for damn sure. And the phone's software is always crippleware -- crippled Bluetooth, no wifi, no provisions for wifi. Extra software is always absurdly expensive.

But this is Linux, which gives you control of the phone's hardware and the ability to run anything you damn well please on it.

I kind of can't believe someone has actually done this. If D-Link actually gets this thing out the door I'll be shocked -- and more shocked if carriers don't ban the thing from their networks.
