I know you're trolling, but I've always had a hard time understanding why people have a problem with merging civilization and nature exploration.
I love taking my digital camera and laptop with me when I hike. Not only is it more of a workout (together they have to weigh 7 1/2 lbs) but I can compose a photo album while I'm on my way up and frag at the peak:D
Why is the assumption made that those who want to go out into nature should somehow be required to want to escape modern civilization? Why can't I love both?
Because one is a service, and the other is copyrighted content. You decrease the value of the service for everyone else by taking it without paying for it. You do not decrease the value of the content by taking it without paying for it. Even you should be able to figure that out.
After 3 years or so you have radioactive waste. Yes. Fine. Refine it, and take the unusable portion and dump it in a tectonic subduction zone. Problem solved.
... is that in Big Brother G.B. no one has thought of asking what anyone is DOING with the actual content of these recordings.
Although I suppose it shouldn't surprise us since they are all consenting to having the speed of their cars monitored by GPS and police surveillance cameras on every corner.
"we have money to spend on education and a bunch extra............ ok, now let's go to the moon"
This condition will never be met - CANNOT be met. We have money to spend on education?! When?! And we've had "extra" exactly once in recent history - when the budget was balanced under the Clinton administration. We will never have billions upon billions of "extra" money in the federal budget. The project will have to be allocated first and paid for later like everything else.
The question is whether or not it can be justified politically. That's what we have to focus on rather than even thinking about paying for it up front - it's just not possible.
They never imposed downloading restrictions. Yes, they throttled us, but I think that was entirely reasonable.
Sure, their network topology was for shit (8-IP subnets connected to the backbone with *cable modems*. Ugh.), and UDP couldn't be routed out of the school, but there were no content restrictions or quotas.
IANAL, but if I remember correctly, DOWNLOADING music is not against any law whatsoever. SHARING it is (copyright violation, not stealing, kthx).
So if you're on UF's network and downloading copyrighted works, well, then the only thing you're in violation of is their TOS (which probably says you are forbidden from downloading copyrighted works which do not belong to you). In which case, yes, it seems a little retarded for them to be forcing you to watch propaganda.
Oh, for God's sake. Stop the elitism.

Whether it's Linux distributions, music, car mods, or anything else in its infancy, someone always feels the need to whine about it going "mainstream."
Justify your claim that mass usage will destroy the value of the Gentoo system, please. If something is intrinsically good, it remains so no matter how many people become familiar with it.
"And let's not even think about the violations if they keep a copy of the file."
This could be a problem. The Photo Imaging Controller system Ritz uses with these cameras keeps orders on the hard drive for up to three days by default.
I have sitting next to me an enormous 4' by 5' (or something obscene like that) photographic print made in our Sensitized Products lab (I work for Fujifilm).
"Get everyone to drive at or below the speed limit, instead of well over it."
Will never happen. Speed limits are already artificially low, not for the purpose of controlling pollution (or even, in many cases, safety), but for the purpose of collecting revenue via speeding tickets.
I have to agree with you about SUVs (hardly ANYONE needs an all-terrain-capable vehicle nowadays) and walking (obesity is well above epidemic status now), however.
And the pre-emptible kernel means that the interface no longer waits for system tasks.
Sorry, try again.

The problem with foobar2K, last time I tried it, was:
1) No good DSP effects
2) Eats CPU like my grandmother eats ham on Thanksgiving.
Has this changed?
I may be remembering incorrectly, but I don't think the article ever mentioned using decibel meters. All it said was "microphones."
Point.
... is nuclear fission so horrible?

Environmentalists don't like wind farms because they kill birds.
Try again.
No "life meter." It is completely impractical to get hit and keep playing.

Actually, IIRC BYU has an excellent academic reputation.
Anyone know about that for sure? I seem to recall it from somewhere but am too lazy to Google any real info about it.

"You can't stay tech-savvy enough to keep up with the techies *and* still be "in" with the execs."
I actually perform best at work when my job involves doing this - that is, be a translator between technical and managerial concerns.
I cannot believe I am that unique. Maybe it's just a matter of perspective?
... the "hard sex - wow" troll?
"To be a GOOD manager, you must lose sight of tech reality (or you can't "connect" with your new "peers", which is necessary)."
What?
Who wrote this rule, and why?
No one said you had to be a moron to be a manager, it just ends up happening because the morons can't do the upper-level tech jobs.
If you happen to be a competent technologist who decides he wants to get into management, why do you need to "get dumb?"
That's incredible. How is that even possible?
I dunno about yours, but my TV has a power switch. Besides, who needs TV when you've got BitTorrent? :)
Incidentally, is it legal in Canada for a private citizen to own a gun?
:)
(I'm too tired to look up the laws and compare them to our own

... or does it have no installer?
That by itself tends to scare people away.
