I have the HD TiVo as well with an antenna to pick up the HD locals in Seattle, and I couldn't be more pleased. And you're right about HD looking better OTA than over satellite. It makes me wonder how much more DirecTV is going to compress the signal when they eventually add more HD content. There is no comparison watching football on my local CBS channel vs. one of the SuperFan channels.

That being said, once Comcast gets their TiVo based PVR and DirecTV finishes moving away from TiVo...I may have to switch. I'd sure miss Sunday Ticket, though.

I think you're missing the middle ground. There are a significant number of users that aren't power users who are hacking the registry, but also aren't those who can't figure what the foot pedal is supposed to do, or why their cupholder broke. If MS can target that segment in the middle, they may be able to continue to fight off competitors for the desktop.

As much as it gets bashed, the US Justice system works pretty well. Slow and inefficient, yes. guess what, you either need to reduce your caloric intake or do some of the extreme diets to lose weight.

I've lost some weight recently, and while it won't sell any books, the solution is really simple:

    1) Eat less. Seriously. Lots of people are shocked when they realize just how much a "portion" of something is. For instance, that "small" 12 oz steak is actually 3 servings of meat.

    2) Eat healthier. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, stay away from processed or prepared foods, and get the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

    3) Get active. It doesn't have to be anything too stressful, just get out and go for a walk. Just about everyone can take a half hour out of their day (say at lunch) to go for a walk.

That's it. The only tough part is sticking to it, but after you do it for a month or so, it all becomes a lot easier.

Partial rant: the "lose weight fast and easy" plans always drive me nuts. Atkins, South Beach, etc. They may work for some people, but what they really do is make their inventors/publicists money. Like I said, eating healthier, eating less, and getting exercise won't sell any books, but it works!

Is there anyone who thinks this is a good investment of $FOUR BILLION DOLLARS?

Do you have any idea how much civil projects like this normally cost? Here in Seattle, we're adding a third runway parellel to the other two. Not a new airport with 6 runways, three terminal buildings, miles of taxiways, etc. Just one new runway about 1000 feet from the others. Want to know how much it's going to cost?

Between 1.1 and 1.2 billion dollars. For 25% of the cost it took to build a new airport, we're building one new runway.

Rrrrright. No other airports have a layout with runways in different directions. Certainly not places like (caution, PDF warnings):

    JFK
    Chicago O'Hare
    San Francisco

Your map is a bit out of date, by the way. It's missing runway 34L, the recently added runway to the northwest side of the field.

Oh, and the reason for the layout is pretty simple, aside from the obvious weather strange-ness that pervades Denver. When winds are out of the northwest (pretty common), planes can land on 26, 35L, and 35R and taxi to the terminal without delay if they roll all the way to the end of the runway on landing. Similarly, planes can take off from 34L, 34R, and 25 with a relatively short taxi from the terminal. That, and the fact that all of the runways are spaced far enough apart that they can take concurrent instrument approaches in bad weather points to some pretty clever designers in my book.
