Yes, your statement is true. While I could go to all the different sites to find my daily news, I try to save time by going to Slashdot. They link to different news articles that II may interested in. They've recently linked to techjapan, ars technia, and toms hardware. I'm sure those site publish great articles that Slashdot doesn't always pick up on, but Slashdot does provide a general overview.
On a similar note, I used to visit all the deal websites each day to make sure I don't miss out on a hot sale. To save time, I started this page to collect them all in real time. Anyone can use it and search deals from multiple websites. Clicking a link takes you to the orginating web page. So I guess I'm running a portal like Slashdot by merely linking to other sites.
What ever happened to people meeting at the mall, bars, concerts, school, etc...??
I hate to admit it, but I imagine most of these social-network people are the nerdy type. Not that I'm saying that's bad, but most of us probably already have some nerdy friends. Why not get out and meet people in real life to havae a well-balanced friend social network?
Actually is there anything this guy can't do? Right now he's a hot marketing item. I'm sure his 15-minutes of fame will eventually end, so I hope he's cashing in now while he can. I wouldn't mind having a finite amount of fame to build up my piggy bank.
Yep. The site is slashdotted now so I can't really see how big this think is. I'm not quire sure I'd want to carry something around if it was bigger than a normal PDA.
I think it's a bit too heavy for most people. I know a lot of people that don't use it enought durin gthe day to really worry about battery life. Usually they are back home and can recharge, if they remember.
However, I'm sure there are some people who would sacrifive weight and portability for the extra battery life. Campers, explorers, hikers, skiiers, etc... Anytime you slap a GPS unit on it and head off the beaten track, you will probably appreciate the extra battery life.
Although I'm not too familiar with this game, it would be another way for the PS2 to get a notch up if the game turns out worthy. I guess the game is probably written for the Xbox now and the company just wants to find some more funding to release it, but if the game is pretty fun and gets ported to the PS2, Sony might end up wtith another developer exlcusive to the PS lineup.
Might be slightly off-topic, but I agree with this. I have enjoyed Fox's coverage much more than CNN's. Not only in this news event but also others. I have noticed that CNN is quite a bit more PC, while FOX news seems to give your the direct information.
Maybe if it's cheap and disposable enough, they could just be transmitting the pictures back to a remote location. Then if the plane did crash or get captured, they would still have the data they were looking for. Cheap and disposable would be the best solution for these micro planes.
Sony does certainly hace the hype machine in the thier court. If Microsoft starts to release the Xbox next before Sony releases the PS3, then all Sony has to do is start leaking rumors that they will be releasing the PS3 at about the same time Xbox next is going to be released. Then all the people more interested in Sony will wait it out, instead of buying an Xbox next in the short run.
I do believe that this round backward compatability is key, as well as network multi-player games. In addition to those, the console that adds the most multi-media functions as an easy side-task will get my dollars. I'd love to have a game machine for fun, as well as a HTPC for DVD playback, video/music streaming, PVR functions. I want an all-in-one box at a low price, and I don't want to have to hack it to get that.
I agree with another Slashdot poster, (can't remember which thread now), that each game ought to haave 2 servers. A strickly monitored fair game server, and a free-for-all cheat server. Cheating is cool in single player games, it just ruins the multi-player games though.
Is it petrified? I can't imagine soggy wood being to good for anything other than making pulp for paper. I don't want some rotten 2x4's to build a deck. My deck can rot on it's own as it is.
I wouldn't pay it either, but Id be happy to accept all mail from www.*.mail if I could be sure it wasn't spam. It would be good for Yahoo, MSN, and other web mail places to get a.mail domain.
I remember when they first started sueing, the file trading slowed down for a while. I think it went back up though. Do you think most people think they won't get caught? After all, when there are hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people on a p2p network, sueing 532 people is only a fraction of the overall filesharers.
Windows had a huge head-start. KDE and Gnome are now as stable and have more features, so I bet Micosoft will be taking cues from these desktops soon. Not to mention that a new windows desktop comes out ever few years at best. KDE and Gnome add features regularly.
Different desktops exist for different people. It's easy to change back and forth to figure out the one you like best. I think that merging the two would stiffle features in the long run. It's best to have 2 competing platforms. Ultimately each group will incorporate the ideas from the other platform, but competition is what drives innovation.
Yeah, but most of the time you just see posters for a band, cd release, DJ party, etc...
This is a rather large company doing it. I think it's tacky. They should have a better marketing and advertising department than to pull a stunt like that.
Heh, nice. Server still seems to be responding well, and I have noticed a definite increase in visitors. The most ever visitors I had online in a 5 minute span was 92. I have 35 online now.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how much daily traffic Slashdot gets? Alexa is showing Slashdot ranked as 989 of all webistes at thier traffic details page.
I think the real dream is to see if your site could withstand a slashdotting. As we've seen before, only the largest sites make it through a huge spike in traffic. I've always wondered if my site could handle it. Hostrocket is my provider and I think they have pretty substantial bandwidth and higher-end servers.
If you want to add a few "hits" to my page and see lots of good deals on electronics, Click here.
Yeah, the goods are just getting better. You can always improve an item by adding features, but I'l like to see some real new inventions/gadgets. TIVOs were pretty hot at first, now they got competition and HTPCs being built with free software. Wireless will be the latest thing to get integrated into everything. Wireless DVD players, home phones, hand-helds, etc. Soon if an electronic item doesn't have wireless it won't be able to compete.
In a controlled situation, you wouldn't have any problems with condensation. I imagine when they turn the coolers off, they would want to bring the temperature back up to room temperature via a controlled sequence. You will get condensation if you go from that cold to warm rather quickly.

I thought I saw some soldiers demostrating those bionic legs. Then the weight might not matter too much.

At least we slashdotted thier site. So I guess there is probably a gap in there where they didn't get all the data they were looking for.

Hot deal search engine. Better than google, froogle, pricewatch, pricegrabber, etc!
How much disk space do they give you? Is there a limit on the number of attatchments or size?
