    If its using alot of memory for you then you either have a very large history that its keeping track of or your doing something completely wrong. For example on my machine ICQ used an average of 12-16 megs of memory. when I cleared out the history it dropped to around 10. Trillian however while connected to all services except irc uses 10. aYhen connected to ICQ by itself its around 7.

    and AMD and Intel does have a standanding agreement that they can share each others instruction sets but the one thing that AMD cannot do is make a processor that is compatible with an Intel bus. It last until 2010

    Dont know about microsoft, but Sony and Nintendo both require you to scan the serial number of the unit when you buy the unit. Therefore they know when it was sold (call for service, they know it was purchased in February, instead of the yesterday you just told them) and the stores themselves can see if they even sold it or not.

    Well, how about me?

    When I was 16 I got a job with my school system in setting up and developing the network. I worked three hours a day during school, and full time during the summers. I built machines, Setup novel servers, Did server maintence, ran cat5 and I even helped in stringing fiber, and setting up the connections for it.

    Most of the time I was doing everything by myself, About a year into it, my standard way of working was to go into my schools office, get a fax and go do what I was told for the day. I was a dependable trustworthy kid. I made sure that it depeneded on me that it was done quickly and correctly.

    Just because when you were 14, and had a problem of hormones, dosnt mean that this guy did too. Some of us are mature for our ages, or know the difference between right and wrong, and have the sense not to blow something that could give us valuable experience.

    It should be noted that a good portion of the cash that is sent to the DVD consortium is going to Sony anyways, so the 30 dollars is more on the lines of 20-15 dollars.

    Philips is doing this because the size was one of their number one complaints. Even though the original (and the revisions) were the same basic size of a regular portable disk player people still said that they rather be able to make it fit in their pocket. This player will easily fit in a jacket pocket without any problems or bulge.

    It also should be noted that they also improved the batterlife to around 15 hours, versus the originals 10 hours, and they also improved the esp alittle (I dont know if they added the ability to turn off ESP in mp3 mode to make batteries even last longer, but I somewhat doubt it)

    Oh, and the disks hold 185-200 megs, with the most common ones at the 185 mark.

    you also have to remember that it was a first generation device. They even came back and admitted that if they had the chance they would have changed a few things from the jump, such as having the ability to turn off the memory buffer so the battery can even last longer. And you also have to admit that when it came out a year and a half ago, there was alot worse out at the time.

    Heh, you better be somewhat worried about them. TVA is almost your only hope of not having more rolling blackouts this summer. They are one of the few utility companies thats going to have power to sell to California.

    Not to meantion the South helped research the Atomic Bomb, A good majority of Nasa is in the south, and also missles such as the Patriot was designed, and manufactured there as well.

    The reason why TVA is making a big issue of this is because of the fact that if the wrong person found out about it they could possibly catch hell for it.

    Think about it, Although they are trying to make themselves selfsufficient, and a private company, they still depend on a little bit of goverment funding to exist. All they need is a conservative to use the existance of software that uses the machine in ways unintended from their original use of purchase as a reason to hang their asses.

    Also it should be noted that they dont allow the installation of software other than their own anyway, just as most corporations, and goverment agencys dont, because one, it could make it unstable, and two it increases the chances of hacks, and three, it could be a potential conflict of interest.

    Who can not say that one instances of Seti could be installed with sub7 attatched, or for that matter, what about that inspirational screensaver with something else more heinous?

    and the P4 has a 400mhz bus because it can send twice on the rising and fallings of the clock. so all it is is DDR^2 sort of.

    Ok, is anyone with me when I say that companies such as msn and telocity should have seen this comming?

    We've known that northpoint was dead, and was suffering. And in the past two weeks, it was pretty apparent that they were gone reguardless. This is reckless to wait until its all said and done and then look for another provider.

    the only ones that look somewhat prepared was telocity, but three weeks is still a long time. I feel sorry for people on MSN, businesses and similar providers, who are completely assed out right now.

    Everyone knows that Nvidias OpenGL stack is one of the best in the industry. Their only real weakness has been in their Direct3d implementation. Not saying that their previous efforts were not all that good, just that compared to OpenGL there was a world of difference

    Has anyone ever thought that because Apple systems are pretty much standard that Apple really didn't have to do alot to intergrate a Geforce into their systems? Its only like a month difference, but think about it, the majority of PC card manufactures will have to add their own features, write their on versions of the drivers, and so forth.

    Also, alot of Apple people thought that Nvidia entering the market wasn't in good faith. Alot of them resented being given the GeforceMX instead of a real Geforce2 (even tho reguardless it was still alot better than what they had) This is probably a way that Nvidia can show that they are serious about Apple by giving them a month head start.

    Isn't there a saying that its better for a machine to operate underclocked and at full power for that speed then for a processor to be in sleep mode most of the time?

    I do remember reading this somewhere before, and this is the basis of how AMD's Powernow and Transmeta's powersaving technology works. If the processor can actively tell how much power it needs to complete a task in a good amount of time, and can actively underclock itself to complete it, it will probably save alot more power than the machine that just goes to sleep when not being used.

    Its almost like runners, if they pace themselves, they can get alot further along than if the gave it all they had, stopped when tired, and started over again.

    Mines was when I worked at wal-mart and a guy with a destroyed trachea and a oxygen tank came up to me and asked me where the cigarettes where. That completely turned me off.

    This guys one main assumption is that all of anime is violent. At least he didn't get into the old standby that its nothing but tentacle sex.

    However, this isn't the point. Everything that he mostly said occured on episodes last week. And even then, all he looked at was the violence, as if the entire show was based off of it. Such as Batman Beyond, anyone that has seen any of the WB animation shows in the past few years KNOW that they DONT kill anyone. there is always something or someone that saves the villan.

    And when has there ever been a spot where the 'Violence' that exist in Pokemon was ever directed at the humans? Its all been Pokemon against pokemon, and the equivilent to looney tunes.

    As for the quote that sometimes friends have to fight each other to get their point across. that was taken out of context. What occured is that one of the guys on digemon was down on himself as he caused the trouble that he was in, one of his friends hit him to snap him out of it. and his brother said that the the only reason that friends should fight is if they are boxing partners.

    Actually in the Mid 90s SoJ gave SoA alot of say so. SoA has traditionally out performed the SoJ operation in the past ten or so years. The only time when they started to pull back on the reins is after the failure of the nomad, cdx (which were actually designed on american soil) and saturn.

    Truth of it all, they will probably quit Japan, and still support the system elsewhere in the world. most of the DC userbase is here. its pretty much is gone in Japan. Europe is doing ok I believe as well. This is similar to how they pulled the Saturn out of america and europe but they still made and prodced games in Japan where it did ok.

    Actually thats the other way around. The only reason that sony was profitable during the Asian economic crisis was the Playstation. It accounts for half of its sales. Sega's problems with the Saturn was that it refused to help no one but their key programmers get the most out of the system. Possibly because they were still learning it itself. the 3d universe completely knocked sega off track. the 3d capabilities of the system were actually put on at the very last minute. By the time they were actually able to counteract, it was too late. Once your competiton gets so far ahead, theres nothing you can do to get back.

    This version is slightly different, the key differences are that this isn't compressed, that version was. That version was only for Mpeg2, This is HDTV. also, this has protection similar to CSS, and a Macrovision veriant while the other didn't with the exception of needing a dish network receiver. Also, If I wasnt mistaken, it would only record two hours of video, while this version will do 4.

    Agreed, this has already been done, via the PR mark. and look at how that was exploited. Whoever will create the new one will probably want to use the thought of fastest at the time, which the P4 will probably win out because of the Intel name. and then all the the think they know geeks who are afraid to try something new (Ill stick with Intel because thats the company I know) will bring up the PR mark fiasco and dismiss whever anyone else does, even if it is actually a good benchmark.
