This one major difference between debit cards and credit cards explains why I use the latter and never the former: With a debit card, the issuer ALREADY HAS YOUR MONEY. With a credit card, they don't, so you have the upper hand.
Thanks for the link. That Wiki article contradicts itself with regard to the capitalization of the letter 'K', though. I wonder which statement is correct.
Even more correctly: It was borrowed on your grandchildren's behalf, by the government, from wealthy people who bought bonds with the tax cuts the government gave them, which the government was able to do by borrowing money on your grandchildren's behalf...
If all these "freedoms" Liberals crow about were so important to the Founding Fathers, why were they in a Amendments to the Constitution instead of in the Constitution itself?
Many at the time expressed the concern that if they explicitly enumerated the most basic and important rights, some idiot would come to the conclusion that this was an exhaustive list of all the rights that were deserved. Sadly, the Founders didn't anticipate the kind of idiot who would conclude that their presence as explicit ammendments would prove their lack of importance.
Non sequitur. I am interested in preserving a free society, but I don't believe it is the role of a jury to dub themselves supreme court justices and strike down legislation that they don't agree with. Arguments along the lines of "what he did was technically illegal, but was the right thing to do" would be better presented at a sentencing hearing.
Your comment confirms what I had suspected, which is that the grandparent post was merely handwaving, and had no authoritative basis for emphatically asserting what the role of a jury is.
more or less pulled out of the air with no means to know how that figure was determined
Damages are calculated by taking the number of DVD titles in existence, times the average price of a DVD, times the number of people on earth who might conceivably hear about the existence of the Samsung players and think, "Nah, I won't buy all those DVDs; I'll just find somebody with a Samsung and copy them all".
the average Chinese citizen is far more likely to defend China's actions than any American would be. Many Americans are far more critical of the US government,
That's because when your government represents you, rather than rules you, you hold it to a higher standard.
No, they don't know how it feels. A Linux user can't call up the person who sent them the disc, rant about it, and have a new viewable disc sent to them within two weeks.
It's disingenuous because it's intentionally oversimplifying the situation. I concede that legally they are two different entities. But the point is that Linux, with the GNU tools, is virtually a drop-in replacement for Unix. If somebody didn't already have a Unix system, or needed an additional system, Linux would be a viable alternative. My company is currently developing a software application for a government customer who wants the delivered software to be cross-platform, and we mutually decided that the initial delivery would be provided on both Windows and Linux. I strongly suspect that if Linux didn't exist, the customer would have insisted that we provide the software on both Windows and Unix.

Nice work, dumbass.
Well!... Double dumbass on you!
What was so magical about the 6 August 2001 President Daily Brief entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States"?
Nothing short of magic could have enabled that illiterate incompetent imbecille to read his PDB.
Human nature tells us that an individual can't possibly make a decision against what he sees as his best interests
I guess some people never studied human nature.

The positions of each of you are not mutually exclusive. You should always distrust the government, but you shouldn't have to distrust the government.
I predict that by 2025 the average movie will cost only $15 million.
Coincidentally, so will a bucket of popcorn.
Nah, I think it was because of his pioneering work on Gilligan's Island and Mr. Magoo.

The job of the jury is to ensure that _justice_ is done, not that the law is followed.
Says who?
If it was reversed they would be requiring the string Allah in usernames,
Actually, I figured that, by "reversal", they meant that Allah would no longer be allowed to use *my* name in His yahoo user name.
In Infidel America, Allah blasphemes YOU!

Way to go, I never got to see France.
You're welcome.
so we can stop having the Electric Universe, perpetual motion, and other fringe theories on the frontpage as science?
This kind of misuse of the word "theory" is what fuels the Intelligent Design crowd.

Here in Central North Carolina Dell was offered about 300 million dollars in tax rebates to locate a plant here.
Not good enough. India offerred to change the name of their capitol to "New Dell".

Linux IS NOT Unix, so it doesn't compete.
