* Why isn't my site included in the index?
Google it seems has been proactive in scanning my attachments.
I recently mailed my google account with a tar.gz attachment (to save my documents in the seemingly unlimited google disc space) - I get a illegal attachment error -even though those were plain jpeg files.
Yahoo on the other hand had no problems
Is google more proactive than required?
Isn't self hosting a costly proposition? You have to go for a ISP that provides you a static IP and allows you to host websites - that costs big bucks.
Try setting up networking(during instalation) with an unsupported wireless card and you will get into an infinite loop. And how about the error message it dispalys - some crappy error happened on line xx in the blah perl script which the end user is least concerned about.
Another problem with free software like Mandrake for non club members is that they dont tell you upfornt at the begining of install that your scanner won't work because it involves a firmware which aint free software and you can find more info on some yyy site. Xsane aint good if it cant scan my documents.
Granted that IE is a security nightmare...but Firefox 1.0 with it's extensions and plugins has been a nasty problem on my windows machine. Running it on my windows machine causes a lot of paging and CPU activity- so much so that the machine hangs. It stays slow even after I kill firefox.
I didn't have any of these problems on Linux. I am not sure if it is Firefox or it's extensions or plugins.
I saw the official ISOs around yesterday afternoon (CST). There were 3-4 US mirrors on the download page of which only one was fast till 7 PM (CST) after which it came to a crawl. Today, I saw 5-6 servers listed on the download page.
Anyways it seems that I have sufficiently messed up with my current mandrake installation so much so that the 10.1 official upgrade process just hangs and it takes 5 minutes for KDE to show up it's face after I login. Its all because of my misuse of urpmi tool
I am also looking for a good builtin wireless support(atleast for my PCI wireless card) - my PC is on the 2nd floor while the router is in the basement. Another thing I am looking for is a builtin support for Linux PVRs like mythTV or Freevo - I have wasted more than suffiicent time to unsuccessfully configure them.
This time I might go for Gentoo if I get good wireless and PVR builtin pacakges. It might be another learning curve.
I tried the PHP Nuke and Post Nuke CMSs for my website. Post nuke didn't run properly because the box didnt have mod_php - user community response - blame the web hosting service. PHP nuke had some irritating problems. These days I am running xoops - no problems at all. It has the best installation among the 3. Couldn't try others as they either wanted to install in directories like/usr (which my webhst doesn't allow) or they needed postgresql (which again my webhost doesn't provide). I wanted to try some perl based CMSs which which provided me ease and range of functionality of XOOPs - couldn't find any.
It 's following the trend set up by Linux. Just as Linux hurt the sales of commercial Unix systems while barely impacting windows strongholds (desktop computing).
Similarly, Firefox targetted the group who wanted multiple featuters (tabbled browsing, low mem usage, mouse gestures etc.) The common man (surfer) stll hasn't heared of firefox - all he wants is the ease of use. He is getting all this with the pre-packaged IE. He doesn't know about the IE securuity risk as security for him is the realm of anti-virus companies and not the browser. So, firefox impacted Opera's market - no one liked to pay for anything which he can get for free.
I am very sure the collection might have some great plans of companies which failed because the inertia of the market meltdown. One could even find plans which would had been too advanced for that time.
Those plans could be used now.
Isn't it a faster way for someone who hacked into your machine to know more about you and your habits? All he needs to do is to spend some 5 minutes to go through your indexed data.
The most scary part is that the desktop thingie only works on already insecure windoze. Just run a search of your name on the desktop search...it not only returns docs on your machine - it also lits the all your internet emails - thanks to the temporary internet explorer files.
I smell conspiracy.
It's like a house with defective locks having a map at the doorstep pointing with a listing of all your expensive items and locations.
Wait till December and you will have a bunch of iphone alternatives, copies and wannabies at lower prices and lesser restrictions.

I have 2 scanners - none of which is ready to scan at 100% zoom - the nearest are 75% and 150% (both on windows and linux) - any idea why?

Everytime I try updating KDE, it fails

Slashdot polls give you more and better choices ;-)

Do the presidents really have time for this? I suspect they would have any incentive to even think about this.
What are the chances that his machine is hacked into by someother person?
a) Doesn't talk about bluetooth b) No inbuilt wireless c) I bet the price won't be less than $600 Why should a non-geek buy Zaurus and not a Sony?
Is University of Florida in China?
The internet won't die, it will rather evolve as it always has. Blame it on the greed of corporations and the ingenuity of mankind.
You would had proves highy superior documents which even you couldn't have understood (hic. - later)
