    That's odd. Motherboards have been using an "e-fuse" since the Super 7 days. Efuses break, then close again after a while.

    The OS still won't detect a new keyboard without a reboot, though.

    Only a few isolated things actually change capslock, including some very silly Winamp plugins that blink the lights.

    The problem is that it does happen on occasion, and when it does, you are stuck that way (this keyboard is probably not going to be paired with Microsoft Windows).

    It's losing the ability to turn Caps Lock OFF is it's turned on by software.

    Your rule of thumb doesn't seem to include anything besides gut feeling.

    As a counter-anecdote, I've never paid more than $50 for a motherboard, and I upgrade about every 3 years. It's worked out well for me. Just insist on solid caps, and after that it's just a feature comparison.

    "Religious nuts" of the Christian persuasion usually take the following as indication that Earth is the unique habitation of life:

    Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I [am] the LORD; and [there is] none else.

    Notice that the verse, in fact, says no such thing. This is why we call them religious nuts.

    Borderlands, a game widely beat-on for being a weak console port, plays at any resolution you like, with graphics quality that can be cranked way up past anything a console can do.

    If they want to cut that cost, they will need to find a highly effective way to ensure that the handful of people who do use them (lots of elderly and poor folks) have a very easy way to get one.

    In the meantime, paper books aren't too hard on the environment, and the cost of printing them it nothing against even one month's profit on a landline phone.

    In short, the status quo isn't that bad.

    For your parents, during your next visit, theme firefox to look like IE, move bookmarks over, and then replace the IE icon on the desktop, start menu, etc with new links that all point to firefox. they probably won't be able to tell the difference
