Well, if it predicted events, it would tend towards being proof that nothing is really random, that everything in the universe is interconnected in some ways, and that this box is just "tuned" in such a way to pick these things up.
Personally, I think it's a bunch of hooey.
Something like activity right before a tsunami could possibly be explained by something we don't understand, but which is a viable scientifically-provable process like some kind of microtremors in the planet's crust or something of that sort.
"Knowing" that 19 guys are going to hijack planes, however, isn't really something that should make "random" number generators generate sequences any differently.
I've seen patches coming through for RHEL which are for things like "If you use movemail in xemacs, a malformed message might cause a malicious user to execute commands as the xemacs user"... contrast that oh-so-likely scenario with the type of RPC remote user executing code which runs with administrative priveleges, and the numbers really mean very little.
I saw somewhere that Pfizer said that part of the reason they're doing this is that people think that it's Pfizer sending out the spam...
Huh?
I think that not only is that bullshit, that they're actually doing it to try to prevent reimportation (as well as the stopping of non-Pfizer sildenafil citrate).
This is precisely what an IDS tends to do. Unfortunately, not only is it trivial to do, it's also something that's essentially COTS (commercial off-the-shelf).
Yet another reason encryption needs to be widespread not only in availability, but in practice.
If you can break the NHL, I'm sure you can break the NBA... which by virtue of being only one letter off is practically the same thing as an MBA and two letters off an NDA, so can't you see how it's all connected?
If not, can you grab me a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks when you go for a walk to clear your head?
I have Vonage with an additional "virtual number" to add free inbound calling from another state. Inbound calls can come to either number and my phone rings, but only my "main" number shows on outbound calls.
The maps look so much cleaner than others I've seen, and might actually be somewhat understandable on the small screen. I really think it would be amazing if combined with Google Local, I could put in an address in New York, and "pizza" and have a map with the nearest pizza joint.
Given the utter shit which comes out of some peoples' mouths (or fingers, when typing), the prospect of seeing their uncensored neural impulses makes me want to hurl.
I think that you'd be able to hack something together with Asterisk to do the "Even better, for those with a landline or VoIP phone, would be a system that automatically picks the cheapest route out for any given call." bit.
It's only irresponsible if we fuck something up that leads to some harm. The only thing we can harm is the "virginity" of the planet.
If we need to inhabitate Mars at some point in the future, it may very well make more sense to start now than to wait until we're good and truly fucked.
It means that you can get and use the GPL version for GPL stuff, but if you want to use Qt and not inherit the requirement to distribute source, etc, you can license it commercially and not be required to provide anything but the app to your customers.
How many other things happened that day that got lost in the confusion? Was there any significant seismic activity? Sunspots?
I don't know, I haven't investigated at all, but time running in reverse doesn't score on the "plausible" meter for me.
I'd prefer to leave it on the "remotely possible" pile for now.

Only old people set up us the bomb!

// horribly insecure, but we had to meet a ship date...
I prefer to read ladies... in braille
Is the point of this that law enforcement can't subpoena records that don't exist?
Sorry, I signed a paper that said I wouldn't disclose that.

Given Google's push into the blogging space with their recent acquisition of Blogger it might be interesting to see how this shakes out.
They bought Pyra in 2003. It's now 2005. This guy worked there for one month. I think your sense of perspective is a little out of whack.
It would be more likely if it were given free and included in the default install.
Charging for it would look like they're being fair to competitors.
Hmm... 802.11 could really help with that, too.
Yeah, man... and now you could have Google Maps on your heads-up neurally-connected "display".

Someone to note that this site *was* on a Windows box?

Is if this worked on my Treo 300.

In your scenario, what's Mars? No atmosphere, doesn't orbit a planet, does orbit a star.

What are the consequences if we fuck it up?

Isn't it kind of pointless now that TROLLTECH IS RELEASING A GPLed VERSION FOR WINDOWS?!? *sigh*
