  1. Re:timing chip? on Adafruit To Teach Electronics Through Puppets In New Kids Show · · Score: 1

I hope you don't mind seeing Hans get into an orgy with Cappy and a bunch of other sexy, sexy components. What's really freaky is how if he gets it on with the right group, he'll be turned on and off again repeatedly, the filthy pervert.

  2. Saving throw? on Netbook-Run Dice Robot Can Rack Up 1.3 Million Rolls a Day · · Score: 1

Now I can finally realize my dream of a real-time GURPS campaign, where you roll on every single action.
    "Okay, I step forward."
    "Success. You move one hex."
    "I step forward again."
    "Success. You move another hex."
    "I take another step."
"Oh, critical failure! You actually trip and fall backwards one hex!"
"I'm going to kill the GM."
    "Failure. You do no damage."
"No, that wasn't an action, I really am going to come across the table and kill you."

  3. Comic Sans and Business on Comic Sans, Font of Ill Will · · Score: 1

I used to work at a print shop. We offered document services like graphic design in addition to our standard "photocopy bind laminate" stuff. Our owner billed herself as a great graphic designer, but I'll be damned if she didn't use Comic Sans in every design. Even people who said "Yeah, can you use Times please?" would get Comic Sans, often dark green on a pink background. I once did something for a client which everyone thought was pretty damn good, and she went in a changed the colors and font to some horrible mix of pastels and Comic Sans. Then she told the client that I'd done it, and he asked her to redo it so it "wasn't so terrible."

  4. Porn Portal on Christian Group Prepares To Mark Wii as 'Porn Portal' · · Score: 1
Anything, and I mean anything, can be used to look at porn. In fact, I would argue that some of the hottest chicks I ever saw were ASCII nudes on various BBSes.

    Thank god for the VICmodem.

  5. Re:Vacation on Titan on Pictures of Titan's Lakes · · Score: 1

Wait a second... You realize what this means? If there is (or was) life on Titan, Cassini will have found evidence of extraterrestrial sharts!

  6. Re:don't forget on Apple Console Rumour Resurfaces · · Score: 1
    Like this?

It did the trick for me until I got an IBM computer back in the early '90s. Until then, my C64 and 1-button joystick worked perfectly.

  7. Oh noes!!1!one!! on Taxing Virtual Gaming Assets · · Score: 1
This raises the frightening spectre of the IRS having to sort through, or (God forbid) audit virtual tax forms. I can imagine the itemized list of property now:

1 Large Sculpture of "Yiffing Dragons Wearing Diapers," $12.50
1 4-room domicile inhabited by anthropomorphic cats, $18.95
274 Medium image macros featuring Limecat and/or Tourist of Doom, $0.59
1 Oscar Meyer "wienermobile" automobile, $17.00
1 Large replica of the WTC attacks, in mint condition, $17.35

  8. Kidnappers? on Peter Gabriel Wants You to Re-Shock the Monkey · · Score: 1
Some in the music business would call this the commercial equivalent of hiring kidnappers to babysit.

Based on the age of Peter Gabriel's music and the maturity of the people who would remix it, I'd call it the commercial equivalent of "Trusting your 35-year old child to babysit his own ass, even if he wants to have some friends over for beer."

  9. Re:Oh god on New Stephen Hawking Movie in the Works · · Score: 1

I think you've got that reversed. After all, A Brief History of Time V: The No Hair Theorem was pretty lame. He's one of the greatest minds of the 20th and 21st centuries, but I really felt like his ideas on black holes were cheapened when he was kidnapped by Sybok and taken to Sha Ka Ree.

  10. Re:Ministry of Truth on Apple's All-Seeing Screen · · Score: 1

Does this mean I'm going to have to crop and airbrush him out of the party yearbook pictures? Because I've got a whole stack of those to do already, and that stack isn't getting any shorter. Please, think about the poor party lackies who have to deal with disappearing you before you say something stupid!

  11. Software for musical practice on Software for Your Musical Instruments? · · Score: 1

If your issues are less related to the specific instrument and more to sight-reading and general theory, I'd recommend notation software. Coda's Finale Notepad is a free, someone limited version of the Finale notation package. I prefer Noteworthy Composer which is very accessible for people less versed in theory, while Brahms is a good Linux package. I've found that writing music is one of the best ways to learn how it works, and being able to play it back quickly, either through ALSA, a MIDI keyboard or Windows software synth allows you to experiment easily with notation and theory.

  12. Re:!!!!~11111!!! on Misconfigured Webserver, Threats to Call FBI · · Score: 1

I'm trying to determine whether he was elected (with the campaign slogan "Becauses You Wanted Someone Qualify!!!!!" no doubt) or just appointed to his position based on his entry in "Who's Who of Oklahoma Incompetent Boobs."

  13. REDACTED on Patriot Act Game Pokes Fun at Government · · Score: 3, Funny

You know, REDACTED had a chance to look over REDACTED, and it looks to be a pretty REDACTED REDACTED about the problems us REDACTEDs are facing with the increase in REDACTED's REDACTED, even as REDACTED's support wanes here in REDACTED. But REDACTED wouldn't worry, since REDACTED sure REDACTED will REDACTED before REDACTED's too REDACTED. Then again, REDACTED just a bleeding-REDACTED REDACTED, so what do REDACTED know about REDACTED?

  14. Re:But... on 1001 Islamic Inventions · · Score: 4, Informative

Why is this "funny?" I think that's one of the fundamental ideas behind Islam. If I remember correctly, Adam and Eve were both supposed to have been the first "muslims," living under God's (Allah's) laws before the fall, and Mohammed simply rediscovered those laws and made people follow them again. Whether or not you believe it is a matter of faith, but I wouldn't consider it "funny."

  16. Re:Biased headline on Aussie Techs Threaten Chaos · · Score: 2, Funny
I believe slashdot is using a modified version of the classic tabloid method, in which they print a really horrible word in all caps with an exclamation point, then explain that it's really not that bad on page 11b. Observe:

    MURDER!

The Home Secretary today stated that rising health care costs could be murderous to the nation's podiatrists.

  17. CDC? on Clinton, Lieberman Propose CDC Investigate Games · · Score: 1

I'm kind of surprised that Clinton and Lieberman would work on curtailing computer violence alongside the Cult of the Dead Cow.

  18. Re:Time for an Open Porn Movement on Massive Porn Buyer Info Leak · · Score: 1

True, the production values would match those of the bigger studios, but I seriously doubt people are going to want naked pictures of someone named RedHaxLinux or Zenmonkeycat, no matter /how/ free they are.

  21. Re:why linear? on More iTunes Math · · Score: 1

I prefer complex functions for listening to today's hits. For instance, I would rather hear Britney's latest release 10i times as often as a Jessica Simpson song.

  22. Re:Too much of a good thing? on MMOGs With Television, Movie Add-Ons · · Score: 1
At least it should cut down on the number of rushed single player games based on movies or tv shows... I hope.

Nope, it'll just cut down on the number of games worth buying. And considering that there are less than a dozen out there, we may one day see the "Game of the Year" being THE game of the year.

  23. Re:"not long after Columbus..." on Remains of First African Slaves Found · · Score: 1
