I'm fed up with waiting for buggy scripts to finish.
It happens on virtually every page I visit on /.
The fun thing is, that whether I choose to wait, or terminate the script immediately, it makes no difference to the page.
This is in Firefox 2 on linux BTW. I posted this via ie on WM5, and no issues.

That is a short (1.5 second) excerpt from my linux servers httpd access log. This "attack" ran for around 5 minutes making around 3600 attempts. Then the ip address changed and the attack restarted. This is a more or less constant process.
I used to have a lot of log entries where windows commands and processes were targeted, but I mostly got control of that by blocking IPs as they appeared.

This would be fine, if like in any public corporation, the voters (the shareholders) could IMMEDIATELY voice their displeasure and if necessary, replace the representative when he/she does something against the popular wishes. As things stand, you're stuck with a liar and a traitor until the next election.
If the representative can't show that they have voted (on any matter) in the best interests of their stated goals (at time of election), then they are breaking the contract they made with the electorate. They are there to *represent* the collective wishes of an area (the clue's in the title) not gain votes with false promises, then ignore the people they claim to represent.

You are a complete tosser. The US troops were left in Europe to hold the USSR back, not to prevent another war in Europe. In fact Europe was to be the battleground.
Firstly, if each EU nation decided to turn on the American troops based in their countries, what are the US going to do ? Bomb their own troops ? (probably, going by past events).
Secondly, how much does the US spend on its military every day ? And how much of that is spent to maintain defences on foreign soil.
Seems like the EU gets the best deal financially speaking, and as it's only the US that wants to start wars recently, why should we waste all our cash ?
As for your last point, the USA has only existed for a couple of centuries. Europe has had nation states for thousands of years. And yet the US seems to be intent on catching up in the bloodthirsty stakes. Only you like to keep it at arms length. Let's see, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Turkey, Afghanistan, Korea and Vietnam to mention a few. There is also the interference in Southern American countries, so I would watch where you point that finger.

There is no point in changing jobs with the sure knowledge that you don't want to work there really. Unless there is a financial advantage, but why then would it be short term. Change jobs, make money, get on with life. If another opportunity comes up, weigh it up and proceed. No need to have several moves planned out in advance. If you are trying to get to a certain point, then it might make sense, but life is for living, not working. If shit happens, you rely on yourself to get out and keep providing, no matter what the source of income. Too many people think they can corral their ambitions and not suffer for it.

Personally, I tend towards the BSD style. Compare the two styles to pieces of wood. BSD gives you a piece of wood and says, "here you go, build what you like". GPL (seems to me) says "here you go, build whatever you like but bear in mind that anything you build from it, must be replicable by other people".
Nowhere does it say that BSD code MUST be hidden away in a proprietary binary. There is still plenty of wood out there anyway. We all get the same chances. It's what you make from those chances that make the difference between success and failure. I might take a piece of BSD licenced code, create a closed source program, then when it's finished and working exactly the way it should, I could then release that code as BSD, GPL, whatever. If I can make a bit of cash along the way, by delaying the release a while, then fair play to me. I'm not preventing anyone from doing what I did, and anyone who really wants to can probably figure it out anyway. Philanthropy dictates the release of the source.
As for duplication of effort - this is how evolution has done it for all time.
So in essence it does come down to a project versus code based approach.
If you discovered the answer to unlimited free energy, would you expect to be better off for knowing it ? Would you just let the government and/or large corporations take it and ruin it ? After all, you would be no worse off, but with (hopefully) lower energy bills. Personally, I would say FTW, I should be rewarded for such a life changing addition to humanities existence. After all, there are many rich bastards out there who made their money building guns and bombs, why should I wear a hair shirt for ending one of the biggest problems we face. I don't want much, £10M would do.
I realise that that was hyperbole, but only to try and illustrate my opinion. BSD does not mean forever, and provides more incentive to innovate. If it was all that bad, there wouldn't be any BSD code available in the first place.
BSD = Do what you want.
GPL = Do what you want, but...
