One big, major problem with building your own box is this. Cut and copied from a discussion on Google+ about this article.
From Intel on UEFI to Sourceforge.net
The verification steps for images signed as described in section 1.4 are:
1. Authenticate the image’s format and structure.
2. If the image is unsigned: If its signature in in the authorized database (DB) and is not in the forbidden database (DBX), run the image, otherwise deny.
3. If the image is signed, check if its certificate has been authorized (for example, the image’s certificate is found in the KEK or the authorized database (DB), and is not in the forbidden database (DBX)). 1
If the image’s certificate is authorized, then unless the image’s signature is in the forbidden database (DBX), run the image
If the image’s certificate has not been authorized, then check its signature. If its signature is in the authorized database (DB) and is not in the forbidden database (DBX), run the image, otherwise deny running the image.
So it sounds like you could build a machine with signatures for every piece of firmware in DB, and then you'd be able to remove the microsoft keys from the KEK. But the simpler solution is probably going to be just to leave the MS keys where they are. If you don't run any microsoft code, then the chief danger that poses to you is that someone lifts their private key (unlikely) and even if they do the worst that happens is that you're back to pre-secure-boot security (not such a big deal, given it's doomed to failure anyway).
Felt it quite strongly as I was near the epicenter ~20 km away roughly. Felt like a really big bus was coming at first and then the noise and the shaking got way worse. Very cool to feel the earth literally moving under your feet. My daughters school was evacuated when we got there to pick her up.
As a simple protest measure against Hasbro I won't play their "official" version. Let me choose thank you very much which version I'd like to play. If you don't give me that, bite me, and stuff it. I ain't playing it.
Just think of Myst and Riven for example. It was word of mouth I think that got them so popular. But, yes, Uru, sadly suffers from this lack of want to solve puzzles together. It hasn't worked well since initial release in Nov. 2003. Will this latest incantation of Uru Live: Myst Online work with fan-based material added? A fan of Cyan can only hope, but the realist in me says, nah, their goose be cooked man.
It's now on the Canadian Press newswire. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5jvt3LW3hjo1fIaaiwZACBiZ0R3wA
So, it'll likely be picked up by mainstream press in other countries, perhaps, now. All helping to publicize the fact that in Canada, we FIGHT for our rights! It is the True North, strong and free, after all;)
Yeah, well, apparently, Dr. Geist looked carefully at what the Minister said. He also noticed what was in the throne speech. If you read this entry of his http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/2295/125/ you'll see where he noticed what was mentioned and what *wasn't* mentioned. Therefore inferring what it contained. Also, in this post of Dr. Geist's from a House of Commons debate http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/2321/125/ Again, what was spoken of, and what *wasn't* mentioned. Therefore inferring it.
So, as to whether or not he's being fed info from the Minister's office directly? I'd not know that. But we can always hazard a guess.:) I'd say "yeah, likely".
Yes, thanks, and the praise should mostly go to Dr. Geist, who's fighting it tooth and nail. And the others on the band-wagon. We all need to keep writing the M.P.'s, the Ministers, the letters to the editors. Keep it out there, in public. Not hidden/forgotten.:)
Yeah, some citizens tried to ask the Minister some pointed questions today at an Open House at his Calgary office today. Here's the link http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/blogsection/0/125// to Michael Geists blog, the great Canadian who's a Law professor at Uni. of Ottawa, and a champion of "Fair" Copyright for Canada. There are pictures up on the Facebook group as well. But sounds like the Minister was very stand-offish and dismissive of this group. "C'est la vie" or in other words "piss off you stupid idiots who voted for me. Hahaha, we've got the power now, we're not going to listen to you!:P
(sorry that's my stupid childish streak emerging):)
those pesky rights of citizens are what got the bloody government elected in the first place. So they damn well better listen to us. Get this: The Minister, Jim Prentice refuses to answer over 250 questions posed by Canadians. How's that for pissing off your people? Not a good way to treat your future voters methinks. Esp. if you're a minority government. Hell, no I don't want some stupid American-style DMCA law in my country of Canada. We are the true north, strong and free, and we are going to get a FAIR copyright law. By hook or by crook.
Re:How is this different than a food chemist?

Chefs As Chemists

I can recall reading Harold McGee's book back in the early 1990's and finally understanding why I had to brown meat - to caramelize it for flavour. All of his tricks, and other food chemistry experiments and tricks are just trying to make food better. It's not really "different" from food chemistry, it's just applying the knowledge of chemistry to food, and trying to cook from there. Interesting thought honestly!
Yeah, I noticed some of that as well, and yeah I'm one of the version 2, as well, and yeah I switched back as well.
Also, I noticed now when you link to something in your email it gives you a diff. expanded link box. Kinda nice but cluttering, as well.
Here's a webring site that may have something useful for you http://d.webring.com/hub?ring=reboot&list
Yes, it was a great show, all right. Loved it, esp. in the 3rd season. Glad to see it's coming back, and that the fans have a say.
and sad, and disturbing. Somebody should do a graphical representation, or pictorial representation of just how many computers that is, like the one I saw earlier today to explain just what $850 billion dollars is really like. http://www.crunchweb.net/87billion/ explains it well.
But your average Mom-Dad combo buying a computer will stick with Windows I'd bet. Just figuring 'oh it's easier, it runs games for the kid, and oh it's so pretty'. They don't give a crap that they're locking themselves into a O/S that demands a ransom. It'll be their kid likely who says 'let's dual boot with linux!' I'd bet.
Yeah, that's the scary thing, that a semi-competent person like myself, just knows enough to know what's wrong, but not how to fix it. I'm dreading yet another wipe, and reinstall, but sure enough, that's really the only great way to fix it all. Ugh, such a fucking pain in the arse. Sorry, yes, I do know Linux, and Ubuntu is *safer* but I do need Windows for certain things. I can't just completely switch to Linux like that *snaps fingers*. It's taking time for me to learn it all.
In the end this really does scare me. My husband has a terrible habit of surfing for porn (yeah guys chuckle all you want, doesn't bother me too much). He does use Firefox, and I've got Adblock installed, but still I'm positive something is wrong in there. All the antivirus checks are negative, no rootkits found using the f-secure BlackLight, and the sysinternals rootkit detector. But just have a sinking horrible feeling something isn't "right". Check out my blog http://toriauru.blogspot.com/ to see what I've noticed in the last few days.
Really scary stuff. Let's get all the eggheads that love writing software to start working for security companies:P
Well, just think what we visit in a given day. Want them spying on you like that, and "targeting" the advertising? Ugh, that's pretty invasive stuff. I don't want it, for one. Nor does most of the respondents on here. But being Microsoft, I doubt we can honestly change anything.
Add me to that group. I will continue to refuse to use it. I'm dual-booting with Linux now, and slowly learning my way around Ubuntu 7.04. That's what I'll take over Vista, any day.
I had the same thing happen to me on Google+. I think it's because someone marked it as hate speech.

I hope they do break the record. They do deserve it.

This should be modded as intelligent LOL! But seriously this is scary stuff for the average user such as myself. :(
But your average Mom-Dad combo buying a computer will stick with Windows I'd bet. Just figuring 'oh it's easier, it runs games for the kid, and oh it's so pretty'. They don't give a crap that they're locking themselves into a O/S that demands a ransom. It'll be their kid likely who says 'let's dual boot with linux!' I'd bet.
Okay, will try that. Thanks. :) (and thanks for the no-attitude reply like why don't you use Linux all the time stuff) :P

Yes, I'd agree with you on those points. It's really not in the best interest of the open source community to have this happen.
