Nope. As far as I know, the launch consoles are the best. Every Dreamcast after revision 2, for example, can't boot CD-Rs. It was a bit more complicated with the Xbox. The first revisions were louder since they had an extra fan for cooling the video chip. The original DVD drives wouldn't read CD-Rs, but OTOH would read both DVD+/-R discs, while the later Samsung drives would do CD-R, but not DVD+R. Then again, the last revision was much more work to mod
Not quite. The resolutions are fixed, yes, but there is still the issue of refresh rate. Badly ported games originally written for 60Hz field-rate compensate by reducing the clock rate, resulting in an overall slower game. Actually, this should be a thing of the past for HD resolutions. The HD Ready label used for marketing HDTVs in Europe requires compatibility with both refresh rates. Of course, if the devs want the game to be compatible with PAL SDTV sets, then they still have to do some porting.
Tell me metrician, why do people under your system insist on making one of the very mistakes they switched to avoid: namely the confusion between weight and mass. When the imperial/standard systems were developing, that difference was unclear, so at least it's understandable that they'd make that mistake.
I speak of the kgf I hear bandied about, even in some scientific circles. Sure, it's meaning is relatively clear when you state it that way, but it's still an ill-defined unit (at what altitude for instance?) that there was no need of since you've got the perfectly serviceable newton.
The kilopond is not an official SI unit, never has been. As you said, the SI unit for force is the newton. Haven't heard of anyone using kiloponds for a long long time, but some of these old units die hard... most people still talk about horsepower and not kW when they talk cars. At least Nm has replaced kilopond-meters for torque.
IIRC, the floppies drives on the amiga were identical to x86 counterpart. I back up this claim by knowing for a fact I took a standard x86 drive put it on my amiga when the factory drive failed. It was too short for the bay, and franky I couldn't seem to get High Density to work on my A2000 but aside from that no problem. The only thing they did differently, that i'm aware, was use the disc change pin. As in when you put a disc in, the drive would relay this to the system.
There's an explanation for HD disks not working. The (very) few Amigas that came with HD floppy drives had custom-built drives that would spin at half speed with HD disks. IIRC, the reason for this was that Paula's bandwidth wouldn't have been enough. And of course Commodore never updated the audio chip/floppy controller...
BTW, did you get the disk change function to work properly? I always thought there would be some trouble just using a regular drive. Some of the later non-Commodore A1200's came with standard PC drives, and couldn't start certain copy-protected games.
Surprise surprise, when you create the first user account in Vista it's still an Admin by default. The system doesn't even point the user the right way - that he should create a non-privileged account first thing.
It might not be news, but seeing the internals of new hardware is always interesting. At least, on a geek site it usually is. I thought it looked pretty neat... looks like it will be as quiet and cool as the GC. I hate the noise the PS2 and the Xbox make.
He is also barred from participating in elections because of it. His conviction happened in another state 25 years ago and he is barred from elections in this state!
Is this for real? I don't get it. Here in Finland there are ballot boxes in prisons on election days... do convicted criminals lose their vote for life automatically in the US, or does it only apply in some states?
Many people are mentioning System Shock 2, which I'd point out isn't that different from System Shock 1, which itself is clearly descended from Ultima Underworld, which is what should get the nod on that line
But shouldn't that prize then go to Dungeon Master? UUW owes a lot to that Amiga/Atari classic...
In many countries, radio transmitters always have to be licensed, and licenses are typically not granted for commercial frequencies(ie. any frequency your radio will pick up). Likewise, in (most) parts of the world AM is long gone.
I've got an iTrip, and yes, it's illegal where I live.
And yet, every time speculation on the next generation iPod starts, people ask for:
I don't need any of these. I just want gapless MP3 playback. I believe I'm not the only person in the world who likes to listen to classical, live, prog-rock, or mix albums.
Too bad Apple has dug in with a huge array of things non-gapless... like iPod, iTunes and all those copies of songs sold through the iTMS. If they went gapless now, they'd have to do it with an active gap remover thingy that might have unintended consequences. But really, LAME gapless (like foobar2k) would do it for me.
And as to the so called "Jukebox" apps like Amarok and Rhythmbox, dear gods trust me when I say you are better off with xmms and bash scripts. They crash. A Lot. Not only that but they rely almost completely on id3 tags, which sucks if your music collection happens to be anything other than ripped from personal CDs or very good quality rips.
Umm... and since when iTunes doesn't organise music solely based on ID3 tags? Get tagging, mate.
That's exactly what MS is trying to achieve - that new games would require Vista. IIRC the forthcoming Halo 2 port will only work on Vista, but I bet there are similarly restricted games in the pipeline that someone would actually want to play.
And in the case of Commodore 64, there were actually two ports. Atari made a really crappy one first, then Ocean/Imagine did a better one with a funky Mozart cover from Martin Galway.
I don't understand how the LOSS LEADER could ever be considered second place.
Because market share has absolutely nothing to do with profit. Besides, who said the PS2 console was sold for profit? I thought Sony's business model was every bit as Gillette as Microsoft's in this area.
It's also used to refer to 576i.

Could be, but they're also fast. Since they can actually go round bends too.

That's Amiga FFS, for fuck's sake...
It probably has something to do with a suppressed feeling of surprise.

Look on the bright side of things. If you turn your steak into charcoal, you can use it to grill the next steak.

"The whole thing was made completely out of rubbah!"
sry, i must be very very drunk

Ouch. That *is* cruel.

Oops, looked at the local version of the site. Seems like the V270 is no longer sold in Europe, but the US site does still have it.
Sadly, the V270 seems to be discontinued already. Logitech no longer makes a Bluetooth mouse according to their website.. :(
