    The diameter of the Moon is 70% of that of Mercury and about a third larger than Pluto. The Earth and Moon arguably form a binary planetary system.

    You say that like it was TiVo's choice. DirecTV is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch also owns a company that manufactures DVRs. You do the math.

    Did you bother to read the white text in the website you referred before you jump to the yellow text? Yes, of course I did.

    While at least, all Chinese fossil out side of China are illegal, because exporting fossil is forbidden by Chinese law. We can not come to a conclusion that all of Chinese fossils out side of China are fake, but there is a big chance. We aren't at odds here. There are plenty of legitimate fossils in China. At the same time, there are plenty of fakes that hit the news are are show to be bunk. I believe that shows that you are right, I am right, and the parent posting in this thread simply refers to that history of bunk that overshadows the legitimate.

    Is there some diagnostic software that Dell uses that doesn't run on Ubuntu? If the magic blue smoke gets out of the CPU, that's easy to diagnose, but perhaps they're concerned about supporting more subtle hardware issues without diagnostic tools?

    They clearly have no idea how much Pandora has done to sell me their product. I have actually purchased CDs I would never have known existed were it not for internet radio. They're killing the goose that lays golden eggs.

    But maybe we should look to the security through obscurity methodology as an additional layer of protection.

    That's what obfuscators are for.

    In this regard, Microsoft has failed to honor the rule that made it successful. With respect to DRM and just about every other technology it has implemented, for everyone else, "The early bird gets the worm". For Microsoft, "The second mouse gets the cheese". I really don't know why Microsoft has chosen to be the early bird here.

    That's why nobody checks passports as you depart.

    Not true. Airlines check your passport before you depart. They can be fined for delivering passengers that don't have the required documentation to enter the country of their destination. They check when you get your boarding pass and they check again as you board the plane.

    I'm looking at a Superbit copy of 5th Element on my Oppo OPDV971H upconverted to 1080i and it looks great. I'm sure Blu-ray would look better, but would it really look so much better that I'd be ready to toss my current DVDs and player for that difference? Especially considering all of the baggage that comes with it?

    I'll wait for the price to come way way down and all of the DRM to be cracked... probably when the next format is announced.

    Hannover (the code name for this release of Notes) will include version of the Open Office productivity tools, anyway... no need to install them seperately...IBM is trying to take the piss out of the entire Office suite, not just Outlook.

    All TiVos, except those with service numbers that begin with "1" have USB2.0 hardware. The bottleneck is the CPU. Additionally, the complaint in the grandparent post about not being able to convert on demand is crap. You can run the conversion utility on demand... you just have to take the time to look.

    You can get one-handed operation out of your MDA by installing SmartKey. I use it on my Cingular 8125. Works great.

    I realized that a piece of paper I was scribbling some notes on today had been torn out of a give-away notebook from the Netscape Internet Developer's Conference which took place almost exactly 10 years ago.

    At the time, their HTLM editor had no spell checker and I was trying integrate a third-party solution for a customer. I tried to talk to some of their developer relations folk to get some help. They refused to give up the clipboard format and I didn't have the chops at the time to reverse engineer it. At that time, I told them I believed that MSFT would eventually eat their lunch, seeing as how they treated their developers pretty well.

    Whether or not that was a significant contribution to their current state, the prediction worked out.

    Funny how the give-aways outlast the companies.

    This is not true anymore. Series 2 boxes are now shipping with version 7.2.1, which will do broadband setup with any supported wired or wireless adapter.
