You will put the sender in your whitelist. But if you're not honest, you subscribe to a hundred mailing lists (with a small Perl script, that should be easy to do), you don't put anyone in your white list and you keep all the cash. This solution won't work.
I wouldn't say jaw-dropping. It was great but there already was a few games with some kind of photo-realism inside. It also had a huge success because you could had hours of fun discovering the maps and shooting aliens. There wasn't a lot of FPS when it came out, and the previous game (Wolfenstein) had a relatively small success as a shareware (only in the geeks world).
When I was a n00b, I've been playing by linking 3 computers just for the fun: I didn't knew what an ISP was and I didn't needed it. I just gave my PCs random IPs like 192.168.0.42 and it worked. Your ISP doesn't need to know what your network looks like (Mac/PC, Ethernet/Wireless). And for the billing process, I would never give any details to anyone, ever.
The sound is more like a tu tu-lu, tu tu-lu but it was not my problem: I never had this kind of sound without a call. I would be freaked out if my cell phone was calling home like yours every 10 minutes. Of course it could be explained by your dead zones with the phone trying to amplify its signal, thus producing the magical music.
Seriously, can we all stop saying your eyes will burn if you look at MS' source code? If you're a decent coder, Windows' code won't taint your coding skills. I have looked at some VBs scripts once and I haven't been reduced magically to a script kiddie. I would look at MS' code once for the fun of it if I could do it, but I really doubt it would mean the end of my career... We're not so stupid as to copy/paste everything we see on the internet, we have brains and we use it, please.

A friend of mine told me about black metal musics remixed into classical, you should try that.
When I'm really late for a college project, I listen to black metal at full power. It helps you to stay concentrated. More seriously, all the gurus I know don't restrict themselves to one kind of music. Well, for Microsoft pros, Britney could be an explaination to all the problems...

The 80s are back! Does that mean I can write my source code with red and blue glasses?
[OT]: I still don't understand why they wrote Freenet in Java: I launched it once, its RAM usage kept increasing until it crashed... I don't think anyone will use it seriously with such requirements.
Well, I don't know the difference between Kazaa and BT, but BT's use has greatly increased with the ability to download japanese anime, so I'd say the legitimate traffic is still low. The good traffic can only come from Linux ISOs shared on the net.
Everything is explained in the documentation if you ever need to write your own client (or alternatively, you could look at the Python source code which is very interesting for all the lazy CS students on holiday like me;)
If you don't need your DVDs anymore, can you give them to me? And what would happen to your files if you caught a virus? (I could still rely on my plastic stuff).
They destroyed most of their culture (well I'd say half of it), but it's still on the safest country in the world (if you don't fuck with the yakuza). That's why I don't understand their behaviour. It's maybe because all the parental scheme has disappeared (the father never at home for example).
I may be redundant, but at Scam o Rama, you have a few stories (the red links) where scammers are baited and scammed (one baiter has won $100, and another story shows you pictures of a sexy male in female undies)
In France, stupid people hate the USA for two reasons: fat people and rich people. Making fun of fat people (and McDonalds) is easy, and hating rich people is easy when you're poor. But there was a time (not so long ago) when americans were respected for their successful version of capitalism.
As for us, GPL nerds, we don't care about the USA because we're all some kind of techno hippies that love to share software, there's not even a religious barrier.
But don't be scared if a french guy is insulting an american, we've been doing this for years against canadians, belgians and swiss. Forget stupid people...
No, you have a have a color screen for $100. What I find strange is their interface software: it's not the OS, it's some kind of program you buy. But I agree that if I would buy one (with full color and 512Mo of memory) for $200. Instead, all the standard options triple the price.
I saw today that Nintendo released all their old vintage games from the NES on the Game Boy Advance (pathetic). I can tell you what you will see on this Nintendo DS: all the N64 and Game Cube games (again) for a higher price...
Who actually owns so many Nintendo consoles?
Me! I have three NES, two SNES and a GC. Actually I've got a lot of NES because all my games were sold with the consoles.
To me, it's still a stupid solution because there's money involved in a problem that could be solved with free (no money) and open-source solutions.

If you want an exact conversion, 30 metres is equal to 3000 centimetres ;)

Worst. Comment. Ever.
This webmail address is good for us: the NSA won't be able to read our e-mails anymore if it's located in North Korea!

Actually, there's a law to translate instruction manuals in french (but I don't know about contracts).
