The official SDKs for gaming consoles have always been overpriced (like a multiple of $1000) and don't count on buying your own CD burner (more like $10,000). You'll have to wait for some kind of GNU cross compiling tools...
It's good not to have solutions! I'm reading the algorithms book from Ron Rivest, and without the solutions, I have to think really deeper and I enjoy it more when I solve an exercise. And you've got a prize for each solution found: the enjoyment of writing the algorithm in your favourite language!
Do they have courses? All my teachers follow a general path during a lesson, but they don't have written courses. Everything is in their head, and I would do the same if I had a C lesson to give.
You don't rewrite the K&R every five minutes, if a student wants a full lesson, he can look in a book at the library. The problem comes from all those who can't have books for free.
Have you seen the video? This robot seems to be able to do almost all the same stuff than the japanese one! And his moves can be very fast (look at the fighting poses). Both robots are great toys, but you will be able to buy the korean one only!
"I'm having a heart attack, look at me, make fun of me, and stare at me for a few minutes before you realize this is not Real TV but real life..."
I'm afraid this kind of behaviour is unacceptable, but people don't help each other anymore these days. I understand it's an off-topic rant about society, but I doubt this kind of display would help anyone, especially if you look at what happen to handicapped people...
MD5 is limited to 2^128 possibilities (which is bigger than the number of atoms in the universe). But if you try 1, 11, 111, 1111..., you'll have a collision on the (2^128 + 1)th number.
Public key system could be easily written in Java, instead of storing the levels of a game, store the keys. I don't have a java-enabled phone, but I doubt it would be difficult to port a small RSA based crypto scheme.
The NES and the Super NES are not what I would call a monopoly. It was more like heaven to me (or orgasm if you prefer, and it still is, I just bought Solstice on NES yesterday...) And for Sega, the Genesis had great RPGs which was not the case for the Master System. Maybe the lack of good games was a reason for the relative failure of the Master System.
E-mail could work if politicals had computers (and knew how to use it). Snail could work if it was not thrown in the trash bin (don't you ever hope that someone important will read your mails). Phone call? you must have a phone number for that.
It's really different from the USA, where you can write your congressman as easily as buying food.
Linspire claims that installing a DVD player is an expensive, tricky, and complicated process because of the commercial license!?!
And what about the Xine license (GPL or LGPL)? Should Linspire give for free the source code to their clients?
There no such thing as "hacking ethics" of course. But "ethics" can't be taught either. You are what you are. If you're a moron in the beginning, you have few chances to become intelligent. Of course you can always meet someone who will show you the real way of doing things (Thou shall read Donald Knuth's Holy Books, for example).
It's $25 for something you can buy $1 in a yard sale. I recently begun my collection and I haven't spent more than $100 (the price of TWO gba games) for 75 games with 5 consoles.
During a (boring) college C++ course, a friend of mine tried the following combination: 'ssh -C' and 'mplayer -vo sdl:aalib' to watch an episode of Naruto...
Why not Lua or Ruby? They can both be embedded easily (and Lua has even been used in Monkey Island 4). Were there other advantages for PHP?

They are trying (with great difficulties) to rebuild their country (houses and stuff) and you want to sell installation/training/troubleshooting services? It's like Africa, they don't need Microsoft Windows, they need peace and food before everything else.
I agree with the OSS part, but whether we sell them Windows or Linux services doesn't matter, they won't be really happy. We should rely more on inside participation to provide free technical help.

Microsoft Passport and its OSS port: MyUID (as seen on /. here)

[OT] but if it could give ideas to a few geeks out there to learn other languages (like what I'm doing with japanese)!
And if you compare it to the Lego Mindstorms' success, it would have been the best toy ever...

You just shoot it with your Nintendo Zapper, Duck Hunt style!

Thank you VERY much, the only Nintendo I don't have is the N64. I want one now...

Completely offtopic, but when I read Buyukkokten, I think of Bukkake pictures...

They don't need Captain India, they've already got Dhalsim. This super hero can also climb everything with his stretching arms.

It's either a joke or the best info ever to happen. Bruce Schneier being the crypto guru who wrote Beyond Fear (I encourage you to buy it asap).
Prior art: Larry and Andy Wachowski for The Matrix!
