    I don't know what it's worth because I've never used it yet but you can use some LaTeX packages like Beamer or Prosper (tutorial here) to create PowerPoint-like presentations. The result seems very professional for most of my needs.

    The only tool I used up to now was OpenOffice.org with some Xfig drawings for the graphs, there is no point in using Windows+PowerPoint if you generate a PDF you can use everywhere (unless you want to edit it with Microsoft Office...)

    Actually it should be called a "belgian comic" because it looks like the style was taken from some belgian comic (the Smurfs...) The style does not look like a manga at all: big pencils and colors? rather small eyes? the whole thing does not fit the definition of "manga."

    That's why I always disable the plugins! It's not that hard and I haven't found my "browsing experience" reduced without Flash or QuickTime videos. The only voice I want to hear on the web is "Dear Strong Bad, ... crapfully yours."

    But IIRC, grayscale on hp48gx was a hack where you would light a pixel half of the time. Has it changed on the 49g model or is it the same unsupported hack? I guess that TI calculators are not really different and can do the same.

    Isn't IPv6 supposed to have some kind of embedded encryption scheme? I remember reading about it somewhere.

    Not in France and some countries in Europe: you still have the tax automatically added to CDRs, hard-disks and even the iPods (25 for the 60GB version). This is the biggest scam I've ever seen but it's hidden, so no one cares for the moment.

    The "copyright infringement isn't theft" is my favorite, as it in no way justifies breaking of the law. I also hear that music sucks these days, and it's not worth buying. Yet the same people fill their hard drives with this "crap". That's hypocritical. Grow up.

    How about the taxes I pay on every blank CDR and every GB of my hard disks? With these taxes, I help the funding of associations like the RIAA without listening to their crap.

    You should try Google for example. I just found this site, too bad it's in french but I guess there are a few sites like this one on the internet. Another good one is Magnatune but you have to pay on this one.

    I'd like to know why everyone says that you need a laptop in college? I'm in college and never had a laptop in my whole life. I just have an old computer with Linux/FreeBSD and that's all. I don't want to be a show-off but this year, I had better marks than the students with laptops and it's because a friend of mine showed me a very strange and powerful tool: the library! You don't need a laptop at school, you just need to listen to the teacher.

    This is the most insightful post but you must not forget to enable the code completion of your IDE if you want to type "teamEnumerator" as fast as "p" in a loop.

    Maybe what the GP meant is that there is too much inheritance without a good reason behind it. I'm reading a book on design patterns right now and they just give you this as a piece of advice, not an order: "don't overuse inheritance when you just need to create a structure." Inheritance is a good thing but in the end you still need members to keep the info and as you said it perfectly "everything has its balance."

    I like the idea of being able to call someone from wherever I'm at and have one in case of an emergency, but not for $40 a month.
    Is it really still that expensive? In my country I only pay $20 for 3 hours of communication every month and they automatically give me one hour as a bonus if I have more than one hour left at the end of the month. My parents pay more than 3 times this price for their landline.
    but that is Microsoft's EULA which is legally binding when you buy their software.
    Are you sure it's legally binding? I've heard so much "random thoughts" that I don't know what's the truth on EULAs...

    Like Cable-TV, DVDs and movie-theater. That's why I stopped buying most of this shit. Is it fair? It is their content and their problem but we still can vote with our wallets even if most gamers out there don't care enough if the game is good. I don't understand why they wait such a long time to put ads in audio CDs and books though...

    I don't know where I've read this (/.?) but the problem with "onion layers" steganography is when they torture you: How do they know you gave them ALL the passwords? Maybe there is "just one more" that will reveal everything? The torture never ends if they know there are multiple layers. (yes, I'm paranoid but I wouldn't like this to happen to me)

    That would be easy if they had write access to the database. The problem is that this database is read-only and (most of the time) does not even belong to them (like a huge spam list provided by another more specialized company).

    Keys will use animation when needed


    SDK + animation = mini games on your keyboard! And with the layout for different languages, I really hope this thing doesn't get as vapotware as the Phantom gaming console.
