Even worst, it's ammending a bill from 1976, which outlaws the following (among other things) "Seduction under promise of marriage." Fornication "Communicating obscene messages to other persons without consent."
I know every state in the United States has laws that should probably be better defined or come off the books all together. I would think that if you are going to add to a bill, you would update that bill at the same time. That way prostitution wouldn't carry a fine of 200 dollars and thirty days in jail but profanity would carry a fine of up to five thousand dollars and up to five years in jail.
I stopped caring about baseball after that. Ever since Matt Williams, who was on pace to break the single season home run record at the time, of the SF Giants had his season cut short due to the strike, I've watched maybe 5 games (all World Series games at that) and haven't been to a stadium to see a baseball game since... and attendance numbers for baseball were pretty low I believe until the home run record was broken...
For awhile I used to be a loan officer and we had to make the cold calls to people all the time. When people started doing things like this, I loved it. I finally had fun at my job again. There is nothing worst then going through the same speech over and over again. I had one person tell me he was in the middle of an orgy but would talk to me if I felt find with that. He kept getting worst and worst with graphic detail too. So being someone who has browsed the internet's finest video's from time to time, I started getting graphic right back. The look from my manager as I describe some freaky things to this guy over the phone was priceless. That day was the highlight for me. The best part of all, I did get the application eventually (it was a long phone call), and he actually told me after the application that he was just messing with me the entire time but being that I played along, he figured he would at least look into it. To bad he had a sub500 credit... I'll never forget that phone call though.
I've never had the fortune of meeting Carmack, but he has always had that type of attitude from what I can tell. He was one of the first (that I know of) game developers to give regular updates in his.plan files (everything from game development, to hardware, to racing on the tarmac, all the way to his car) and has always been vocal about his thoughts, all intelligently formed and would admit when he was wrong. Add into the fact that he always supported a cross platform approach... Those type of traits cemented him as +5:). Theres always someone smarter then you are, but I can't think of another developer who has made sure that the community was taken care of.
On a side note, iD software I believe (with the original QuakeWorld) was responsible for the first gamer ranking system... once again, he/they were community orientated.
They also had a mod similar to this for one of the Quake games, although which name escapes me at the moment. In fact, it was a strictly two players RTS, just using quake assets. It was a neat proof-of-concept, but I don't believe it ever really caught on.
On a side note, and I know hell would have frozen over at this point, but I would love to see them bring back the people from the Doom days. Obviously it would be in a limited fashion. I fired up Doom II the other day just to goof off with a friend that I used to play with through the BBS's that allowed this type of play. It was still fun. It was definitely mindless and had no where near as much depth as most blockbuster FPS games that are out there today, but the level design was still fun and the satisfaction of watching your pixelated buddy start going berserk is still a treat.
This desire to see the old guys reunite may be because to this day, I'm still disappointed that the game that was hyped up to be Quake never materialized.
I realize your being a troll, but there are several other cars that keep going in the left hand lane. But we all appreciate the fact you point out the SUV... thanks.
Tom Sullivan would have done a good job too. Its unfortunate that he didn't run, but understandable. It IS to bad that the media and American People have done everything in its power to make it unattractive as possible to be a political figure. Remember when people used to look up to certain politicians?
I think the lack of games made by small shops is the problem now days. Back when we all used to buy tapes to get software, or type them in, or download them off of BBS's, it was easier to make a game. If it was easier to make a game, more people could create games with their unique ideas. Games, even small ones, are much more harder to create now. I know when I was a kid I made text games in BASIC, but now I have no desire to even attempt to create anything like that. Let us also not forget that we have a tendency to forget about a lot of the bad games out there. Just like with movies, we tend to forget about the movies we didn't think were any good. As humans (and I'm speculating here), I believe we have a tendency to block the bad out of our lives in general. So when we turn around and and see stuff we don't like now, we are obviously going to compare it to stuff we liked in the past.
Along the lines of "python sucks", there are 0 results for "ruby sucks"...
And there are 0 hits for "rails sucks"...
And plenty of results for "php sucks", "perl sucks", "c sucks", "c++ sucks"...
Take it for what its worth, I don't even code. Just was curious.
My mom actually got an email supposedly from PayPal that she was worried about. I've warned her many times in the past, but you never know if people are really listening or not. She called up PayPal (with the number off the website itself), talked to them, and had it confirmed that it wasn't a legit email. I was pretty impressed that a 54 year old woman who doesn't know hardly anything about computers, was able to do all of this on her own. If someone with very little computer experince can use common sense when it comes to personal information and avoid being ripped off, why can't everyone. It falls on the customers to police themselves. If I fell victim to one of these scams, I wouldn't look for the bank to pay me back. It wasn't their fault, it was my fault.
That's all well and great, but Americans are not "a bunch of pussies", as you would like to believe. The nice thing about the US is that we have checks and balances. Something like this, will eventually get taken to the Supreme Court and will be examined to find out if its in deed constitutional. It won't be the fastest process, and its not perfect (name a government that is), but it does work And people should remember their history. A lot of privacy was lost during WWII, afterwards a bunch of the laws were considered BS and things went back to normal. I don't like the Patriot Act, but I know its not forever. History always repeats its self.
Only time in my life I've bought a Strategy Guide. Yes you can use gamefaqs.com, but its much easier to have everything you need in one guide when it comes to games as complex as Oblivion...
I agree 100%. If the PS4 is probably not going to have an optical drive in it, I'm basically paying a premium now to help them establish a foothold in the house with Blu-Ray. I don't care who wins either which way in the format war, I just don't want to pay extra to help someone win.
I've survived layoffs and I've been laid off. I love business and I understand its part of our economy. I don't have a problem with layoffs. I have a problem with people being happy about layoffs just because they don't like the company.
A little off topic, but what happens when the RIAA and MPAA start noticing these countries downloading stuff that shouldn't be. Are they going to go after the people and try to do what they do here or are they going to turn a blind eye to avoid a potential public relations problem? Is there going to be a filter? I'd be interested to see how all of that plays out when everything is all said and done in their new 21st century world.
Its never cool when any company does layoffs. If Microsoft did a layoff, I know people would be happy because "the tide is finally turning." That is very sad. You should never be happy when someone gets laid off... you don't know who they have to support with that income. It may be their family suffering now that someone got laid off, so be a little more of an adult and don't praise layoffs, from any company.
You're missing the point. Take a look at Half Life 2: Episode 1 stats. Click on the question mark next to the "Games Completed" as well.
When only half of the people playing the game reach the last map, something seems to be wrong. While all games are for entertainment purposes, games like Half-life 1 & 2 are telling a story. If you don't finish the game, you're missing out on the story. It would make more sense than to make it a little easier to finish the game so the story gets told, than to make it harder so less people get to finish the game.
You also need to realize the indented audience. Some games are very heavy on the story, and some are run and gun based. Just like some comedies are slapsticks and some are based off of dark humor. Different audiences. It sounds like this game wasn't designed with you in mind, which is perfectly okay. You will never find a game that is designed for everyone. I can't stand counter-strike, yet most people I know love the game. Prey is perfect to me at this age. I work 12 hour days and when I play a game, I want to be able to do a little at a time, have some story (but nothing I have to be too focused on), and be easy to learn and fun to play. I'm only 25. I'm sure your desires for games are much different.
Just something to keep in mind before reminding the Slashdot community how your views are the best...
Not that I'm a weapon expert, but during my Army tour, I saw first hand the exit wound of a M16 round. They may be designed to wound, but they really aren't designed to wound. Add to that, that the round (at least as I was always told in the Army) tumbles inside the target, you really don't have that high of odds when it comes to survival. Just my 2 cents....
...I'm confused. We're supposed to be going through global warning.
Also, is anyone else thinking that we don't have enough data to determine how the climate acts, being the earth is millions of years old?

Apologize, you can get a USB Ethernet Adapter from Apple for $29...
Or you can use the included USB Ethernet Dongle...
