anyone know if it's possible to run lustre on linux ppc? OSX just plain sucks as does XSan and we need to do something with these expensive xserves other than sit there and look like works of art. Their NFS performance is terrible compared to much slower linux systems on much slower processors and they crash because of bugs in the O/S (confirmed by apple support).
So you're telling me that all computers and parts (video cards, mobo, psu, cpu, ram, hdd) are warrantied for 5yrs, even Dells or supermicro superservers with 3yr warranties? If it fails within 5yrs I can initiate a small claims court summons and always win? Don't these guys have lawyers who have thought about this? Where is this "common law" writ anyways?
Couple of days ago we had this happen on a dell dimension (we're only purchasing precisions from now on, better support) where winxp came with the box. It was annoying because if one goes to the support page for the particular service tag number, one of the choices for O/S (e.g. drivers, bios, firmware) is RHEL4. The problem is that we used online chat. Usually it helps to call the person. Don't mention what OS it is and if they ask just lie. What they are doing is illegal anyways.
I think this is a great idea and definitely solves the problem of what to do with both the waste water or perhaps the incoming water. Does the AVE cool the water as it leaves?
Yes, I'm curious about this as well. We just purchased lots of raid boxes and SAN switches to setup several TB in XSAN. Will ZFS be used in the XSAN as the new filesystem or will XSAN slowly be deprecated in favor of some sort of ZFS setup?
So is GDB/softice/pice and any other disassembler considered a hacking tool in.de and as such considered illegal? This is as stupid as making hammers/cars illegal because these could be used to kill people.
We're going with an apple xsan + infortrend's eonstor solution. 2 x apple xserves running xsan, one qlogic sanbox (with sfp's), 2 x 4gb FC HBAs for the xserves, and 2 x 16 bay infortrend eonstors supporting 4GB FC with 750GB SATAII enterprise class seagates (single RAID controller, redundant PSU's) all for $38K. Unfortunately infortrend has not yet qualified the 1TB drives, otherwise we would have saved even more money. If you have a bigger budget you can get eonstors with redundant RAID controllers.
The nice thing about xsan is that we can keep adding eonstors to the racks or use larger drives in the eonstors and increase our storage. This is great since we're growing at about 2-3TB yearly.
What happened to the protoss battle cruiser with all the crazy miniature fliers. Those units would also cause lots of confusion and could attack from very far away.
if the treadmill powered the LCD or the computer such that if you stop running / walking the system turns off. I had an idea to build something like the FPGamerunner..might get one for myself to play UT2K4!
The hal/dbus with kernels > 2.6.14.7 will break on RHEL4. You won't be able to autodetect and configure USB/firewire drives (if you enabled firewire support) under/media/usbdisk. So unless you fixed hal/dbus or never use the autodetection and configuration feature for usb drives then it's ok, otherwise in a desktop/workstation environment you might get complaints.
1) A VM has migrated its process to another VM and the source VM crashes/system dies? 2) A VM has migrated its process to another VM and the destination VM crashes/system dies?
The scientific community hates it more than they hate Windows. It doesn't have full opengl support or hardware stereo support and uses up CPU power for what could be used to do number crunching.
For CPU's which consumers may actually purchase see this article http://www.legitreviews.com/article/490/1/ , the 5600+ at the same price point (with mobo) as the E6300 does better, and where it does worse it loses by 1 or 2 points (5%).
this is going to be a field day for lawyers
what are these deep colors you speak of? Can you show me a picture saved in gimp and one saved in photoshop that uses deep colors?
fork(), pthread_create(), and MPI_Init()
because if they did they would crash daily and corrupt their data.

Call me when I can Install and run at least MSOffice 2k3 using wine.
Now of course there is the minor problem of having a tornado by the tail near a nuclear reactor

We're not asking it to replace the hardware but become the FS for the SAN. This means all the snapshotting and nice features are part of the SAN.
