Ok, didn't want to bring this up but it's well known that game companies make money off the games. Why would they even think of offering backwards compatability if they can just charge you again for a slightly altered version of what you had?
Everyone thinks the consumer has the say in this backwards compatability stuff. Microsoft and others are right to try and make money off games when they're selling their consoles at a loss. They've got to make money somehow or we wouldn't have consoles at all.
Short econ lesson. Would you buy a $500 console so the games would be 20 bucks each? Probably not and the ones that did wouldn't buy more than one. This maxes out the profit based solely on the unit and has a set quantity.
Now look at the current model. Offer a console at lower than cost and then charge 50/game which keep coming out well after the console is finalized. There is a better market for games at $50 than consoles at $500.
Point is that the business people aren't stupid. They have this billion industry pinned and when they choose not put backwards compatability in a console, they do it from a econmical stance.
Why do companies not use interchangable parts. The case scenarios go on and on.
First, if you want to play an XBOX game, use an XBOX. If you want to play an XBOX Next game, use an XBOX. I don't think I should be able to play Nintindo 16 bit games on a Game Cube without buying a compatible cartredge. This idea that everything is on a glorified DVD has people thinking they should just work in everything.
Now excuse me while I go plug my Genesis up and throw in a Master's Cartredge.
I think this is a great way to listen to what I want to download to my ipod next. It takes the guess work out of who sings the song. I can let it rip for a while. come back, play through and go download the tracks I really like via itunes or whatever your liking.
Assuming he'd be paying retail? 99 dollars doesn't sound like a retail price for a console such as the xbox. But I agree, he's got so much money it's sickening.
Non-Computer Person Joe doesn't see security as their responsibility. They're doing good if they update windows twice a year. If they do know about Antivirus software they don't update it as much as they should and if their computer gets scanned at all its in the neighborhood of once a month. Seen it more often than not. Now to impose a fee on them for not protecting their computer or knowing what a worm or virus does, is detrimental to peoples stress levels.

Maybe because designers bow down to the low standards Microsoft sets. Their browser is out dated and needs a real good CSS 2.0 butt kicking. It's lacking in many, many ways from a design view.
To say this is the best web standard browser is to kid yourself.
Just drop the backwards compatibility. It's not going to be in the next system. It doesn't need to be in it and it also hinders developement.
Get over it.
Taking notes in class should be done on paper. The retained knowledge far surpasses typing for me and many of my peers. When I type, I sometimes can't tell you what I typed a minute ago.
As for a tablet as this article is stating, I see the electronic resources in class a bit rediculous. The people with this powerful computing solitaire playing machine gets used about 50/50 for notes and solitaire. It also distracts me to see someone on the 2nd row playing since January and still not win a game.
One more thing I'll get phone calls about: "Hey, whats up, nothin man, just can't find the 'K' on my keyboard, you know where it is?"
Beat me to it... If i *were* to use one, this would be it.
This is so true. After working there a while ago, I can't foresee a worse job than pitching everything there is to pitch at the checkout.

My dog ate my presentation and backup of quicken.
Bundle a game and cut the only source of profit from under them? I think not.

And it still takes only pennies on the dollar to pay workers overseas to put them together.
