I agree with you, I'm not counting the psp out any time soon. I think it needs time to grow. I do want to use these emulators on the PSP but I don't have a PSP yet. Where should I get one that will allow me to play all of these things being made for it?
I understand what you are saying about Nintendo making the classic roms available for a price (legally) but if you are playing them on the PSP illegally already then you can play them just as well on the GBA or DS using a flashcart without worrying about which system you use it on, etc. There is PocketNES (NES) SMSAdvance (Sega Master System) along with a Turbo Graphics emulator.
Here is also Super Nes emulator for the GBA with a list of "Most Playable/Fully Playable" games here http://www.snesadvance.org/ and a NES Advance Controller & Adapter for the GBA as well.
I've purchased enough Nintendo equipment/games that they send me the demos in the mail (through their, "For each product that you register" section on Nintendo.com) and I will continue to do so. I'm a Nintendo fanboy.
I think the people allowed to vote for winners should be required to play all of the games nominated for each category and then send in paper ballots or something like that (think The Academy Awards). Right now it's just people voting on the games that the same TV show told them to buy and then voting on it as the best game. I doubt many of the people have honestly played through more than a few of the titles in each category.
I would like to take a moment to say that Tina Wood is a walking infomercial and nothing more.
Oh, and you can't pirate games as easily. Maybe that's why it isn't popular.
I sold off my Gamecube and all my games, four controls, broad band adapter, etc. a while back. Not before I was able to load Mario Kart DD from my PC to the Gamecube at least once though. It was just so slow.
I'm thinking about getting another one along with the Qoob PRO GameCube Mod Chip and a new cover for the GC so it will load regular DVDs and CDs. The mod chip is only $60ish bucks and it's available already. Kind of cool.
...at least I don't think they are. I mean, look at the song list for THUG2. http://playstation.about.com/od/news/a/thug2soundt rack.htm It's stuff like The Doors, Ramones, Handsome Boy Modeling School and Aesop Rock. These aren't the same songs you would hear on MTV or M2. It is a game track that fits into the MTV mold of what a game track is. They didn't pick the games because they feature all top 40 hits.
Go to torrentspy.com and search for book. I have seen many magazines and books scanned and put online. I even had some magazines a while back. There are people pirating clothing patterns and copying them at home so they don't have to buy them. It's big with women.
I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of games out there that have similarly-locked features.
Like the one in Rings of Power for the Sega Genesis. To see a topless chick in the game hold down the DOWN, RIGHT, START, A, B, & C buttons on controller 2 and restart the Genesis. I remember reading this is a game mag back in the day and was able to find it searching on google.
It's cool to see the odd games released in the US instead of needing to import them just to try them out. Densha De Go, Jet De Go, Taxi Driver, Vib Ribbon, Vib Ripple, Beatmania, Pet Station, etc, etc, etc. As long as more people open up to the "different" games and they make a little cash, more companies will bring them over and we won't have to depend on other teams of developers (Fresh Games, Eidos) to translate and ready them for American release.
This reminds me of when I wash my car or change the oil. Man, it sure seems to run so much better when it feels like I've done something to it (although the oil change might help) even though the statistics say washing it doesn't really help overall performance.
I think it's the lack of distributors that the independent game stores either have or are able to get. There was a Microplay in my hometown (It's Canadian I think but this mom and pop bought a franchise and had it in Texas). I remember ordering Seaman for the Dreamcast. They could never get it in so you know what they did? Freaking bought it from Best Buy and then charged me their price for it (even though it was cheaper to get at Best Buy). Even worse, the Pokemon games...they would buy out the local Wal-Mart stock of games and sell them marked up to regular (non-Wal-Mart) prices. I think they also weighed packs of comic cards and special baseball type cards they got because they knew the ones that weighed just a little bit more had the "rare" cards in them (because they are foil, thicker, etc) Freaking bastards. They did sell me a Gamecube about a week before street date but that was the only positive for me.

Portable DVD players aren't exactly $300 plus bucks. I know, I know, depending on which one you get the price will go up. Just looking at best buy real quick shows that this off brand Insignia(TM) 7" 16:9 Widescreen Portable DVD Player costs $129. That's cheap. Cheap and it plays your DVDs from home...the ones you already own AND you don't have to purchase the movie twice. You can also hook it to your TV to watch the same movies and share with everyone. It supports DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3 and JPEG formats, has dolby digital, Composite video and stereo audio outputs and a remote and car adapter.
Are the people using mod chips actually playing on Xbox Live? I know I can't...and even the freaking Live Aware games will get on if you aren't carefull and your friend is playing a game...thus banning your account from Xbox Live. Personally, I play using Kai Xlink when I go online because they don't care if you mod your console or not. Plus with that neat little Linksys firmware upgrade I don't even have to use my PC to setup games! It's all done through XBMC.
No, no, no. It's all about Life Force baby!...well, at least it was for me and my friends back in the NES days. It's not the hardest game around for sure and it does seem pretty short to me but it was a great game at the time.
I was looking at the screenshots and they didn't show very much of any level. I would call it a Indie Mario Bros. Title if the game is only limited to 1 screen per level. You know, like the classic Mario Bros.? It's the only Mario game I can think of that didn't actually progress through a series of worlds/zones/etc where they weren't limited to one screen.
I'm not saying that what this guy did isn't impressive/cool or anything...but it's not what I was hoping for. I was thinking something along the lines of The Lost Levels (Super Mario 2 in Japan)
Like I said before, I am excited about Nintendogs and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Nintendogs and Dogstation both seem to be the type of game that you can play for a minute, save and put down again. I like the portability of Nintendogs for sure...and the option to share with other people will be a big part of the fun I think.
For some reason the picture I linked to on the Dogstation page was part of the table so it reverts back to the main page every time you try to load it but go to this page http://www.konami.co.jp/am/dog/index.html and click on "Dogs" on the left hand side. That is what they look like as puppies...not that horrible example that shows up on their main page. Look at the puppies under "Dogs" and tell me those aren't Nintendogs cute. You can't deny the Dogstation cuteness factor.
I am excited about Nintendogs although I agree that the game isn't exactly original. You listed some good examples but one game that no one seems to mention when it comes to Nintendogs (or at least no one mentions it on slashdot) is Dogstation for the PS2.
I've played Dogstation and it was pretty fun at the time (I really like obscure, non-mainstream games...the crazier the better) and although this game had a Tamagotchi like feel to it you still had to teach the dog to poop and pee, walk it, raise it, breed it, play with it, feed it and play mini games with it. I'm curious how close Nintendogs will be to Dogstation. I mean, even the name Nintendogs (part Nintendo / part dogs) is like a direct rip from Dogstation (part Playstation part dogs) Look at these pictures from the official dogstation webpage and compare them to Nintendogs.
Actually, I'm going to see if the author of the story (that says there is nothing on the market like Nintendogs) and see if he has played this game and what he thought of it.
Thanks for hitting home on what I was trying to say. I agree. The people that complain probably aren't exactly pros as they call themselves. How many times have I seen someone say that they are playing to "pay the bills"? I mean, I know it happens but not as much as people claim I bet.
Link to gamespot and get crap for information. At least the updated their info...now Slashdot needs to do the same.
[UPDATE] Initially, UK Resistance pointed out that many of the graphics look "awful and amateur," so RC gave it a "probably bogus" determination. But over the weekend, they were sent "evidence" from Gtasanandreas.net that the hack was "real," evidence that was even more mature in nature. So while its origins are unclear, there is a San Andreas sex minigame out there.
About the closest thing to a bot I've seen so far is Texas Calculatem. It doesn't play for you...well, it reads the cards at the table you are playing and tells you the odds of the hand you have. It suggests what to do I guess.

That's not mario. It's his cousin, Jumpman. Well, if you look at the actual Donkey Kong machine that is what they call him.
